Chapter 26: Please Settle the Bill
Alexander kept his expression neutral as he shifted his gaze back to the documents in his hand, completely ignoring Michael. Michael, long accustomed to Alexanderโs indifference, couldnโt help glancing around the room, as if searching for something. Henry, standing beside Alexander, coughed politely and asked, โMr. Michael, is there something youโre looking for?โ
Michael let out a laugh. โOh, nothing much.โ
Alexander had been married for six months, yet none of his friends had ever met his wife. They only knew she wasnโt from a wealthy family. Alexander never mentioned his wife in front of anyone, let alone introduced her to his friends. However, it was rumored that Alexander was particularly attentive to this woman, who often went out of her way to please him. This mysterious wife had piqued the curiosity of their entire circle.
Unfortunately, when they were at Carlos Harmonies recently, Michael hadnโt had the chance to see Alexanderโs wife because he was busy hosting Mr. Sebastian. He was hoping to get lucky today. But clearly, his luck wasnโt great.
โIf youโve got nothing else, you can leave now,โ Alexander said, showing no hospitality towards his suddenly visiting friend.
Seeing that Alexander was basically kicking him out, Michael grinned and placed a bill on the table in front of him. Alexander glanced up slightly, his eyes questioning.
Michael explained, โItโs nothing serious, really. Itโs just that your wife bought a piano worth over three million today at Carlos Harmonies. Iโd appreciate it if you could settle the bill.โ
The moment Michael said this, a strange look flashed in Alexanderโs eyes. Wife? Olivia? Almost instinctively, Alexander looked away.
โYou must be mistaken.โ
He knew exactly what kind of person Olivia was. In the six months theyโd been married, she hadnโt touched a penny of the Wilson familyโs money. She even paid for most of her personal expenses out of her own pocket. Henry, standing nearby, also thought Michael had gotten it wrong.
โMr. Michael, Ms. Carter would never spend Mr. Wilsonโs money. And since youโve never met her, someone must be impersonating her, causing this misunderstanding.โ
Olivia, spending Mr. Wilsonโs money? What a joke. That cautious woman, always eager to prove herself in front of Mr. Wilson, would never use his name to run up a bill. It would only cause trouble for herself.
Faced with their skepticism, Michael was at a loss. โDo you think Iโm an idiot? Do you really believe just anyone could impersonate her?โ
Michael was baffled. For most people, a few million might be a big deal, but for Alexander, it wasnโt even a drop in the ocean. Why was it so hard for him to believe that his own wife had made a purchase? How deep was the rift between them?
โSomeone might fake a name, but could they fake the Wilson familyโs black card?โ
To prove his point, Michael slapped Oliviaโs black card down on the table. The Wilson familyโs exclusive black card immediately caught Henry off guard. Alexander stared at the black card, his brow furrowing slightly. The Wilson family black cards were extremely rare, each with a unique serial number. The number on the card Michael presented was indeed the one assigned to Olivia.
โWell, if you still donโt believe it, why donโt you give her a call?โ Michael suggested.
Alexander was silent for a moment. If the card was genuine, the only explanation was that Olivia had lost it and someone else had found and used it at Michaelโs store. She was careless.
