Chapter 402: She’s Alright

As soon as Alexander laid eyes on Olivia, his shattered heart began to mend, bit by bit. The air trapped in his chest seemed to finally ease. The roaring flames and crackling sounds nearby seemed to fade from Alexander’s awareness. She was alright.

Olivia, silent, tugged at the wet hem of her rescuer’s pants. “Eugene, I don’t know why you’re stuck here too, but… if you don’t want to end up being roasted, you’d better move.”

Snapping back to reality, Alexander looked at Olivia, who still managed to joke even at such a moment. Suddenly, he bent down, pulling Olivia out of the increasingly hot metal drum.

To her astonishment, he took off his soaked jacket and wrapped it around her head and upper body. “Eugene, what are you—” Olivia began, puzzled. Before she could finish, she was lifted off her feet by Alexander.

Olivia was stunned. Alexander squinted; the recent explosion had intensified the fire. The old warehouse, long in disrepair, couldn’t withstand the flames. Large sections of the wall were charred, and the beams were mostly burnt through, risking collapse at any moment.

“You can put me down, I can walk…” Olivia started.

“Don’t talk,” he interrupted.

Olivia fell silent. Eugene, your heroics are so damn unexpected! Alexander didn’t give Olivia a chance to negotiate. Watching the beams fall and quash the flames, he sprinted toward the exit with her in his arms.

Shielded by the wet jacket, Olivia felt protected in a way she never had before, in this life or the last. Surely, aside from that jerk Alexander, the world is still full of considerate, handsome men!

Outside, the Borealia Military Academy mobilized all students to fight the fire. The temporary assistant, who had seen his boss dash into the blaze, was in tears. This is a disaster! How long had Vance assigned me to shadow the big boss? And I let him run into a fire? Vance is going to kill me!

Nearby, a member of the Red Jackals was also breaking down. This is a disaster! If the boss knew he almost got Olivia killed… He’s going to kill me!

While the assistant and the gang member were crying outside, a tall figure suddenly darted from the other side of the warehouse, engulfed in flames.
