Chapter 57: Are You Shy?
Lucas and Benjamin trailed behind Olivia, watching her composed and innocent demeanor. If they hadnโt personally witnessed her snapping fingers and flooring thugs like a martial arts master, they might have believed her angelic act.
Outside the police station, Lucas stretched and cast a curious glance at Oliviaโs retreating figure. He leaned toward Benjamin, lowering his voice.
โMr. Benjamin, whatโs the deal with you and Olivia? You practically flew to her rescue. Thatโs not your usual style.โ
Benjamin shot Lucas a glance before his gaze returned to Oliviaโs petite figure up ahead.
โRemember the person I mentionedโthe one with great driving skills?โ Benjamin asked.
Lucas thought for a moment. โYeah, you said you wanted to race them. What about it?โ
โThat person is her,โ Benjamin replied matter-of-factly.
Lucasโs jaw dropped.
โWhat? Her? Youโre kidding, right?โ He couldnโt reconcile the seemingly meek Olivia with the daredevil driver Benjamin had hyped up.
โSheโs the one,โ Benjamin confirmed.
Lucas inhaled sharply. โWait, soโฆhave you raced her yet?โ
โNo,โ Benjamin said calmly. โThis is only the second time weโve met.โ
Lucas narrowed his eyes at his friend.
โHold upโdonโt tell meโฆare you shy?โ
Benjamin stiffened. โWhat nonsense are you talking about?โ
Lucas smirked mischievously, then darted ahead to catch up with Olivia.
โOlivia!โ Lucas called out. โSince we helped you out today, arenโt you going to show some gratitude?โ
Olivia paused, raising an eyebrow.
โThanks for your help,โ she said simply, then turned to leave.
โWait, thatโs it?โ Lucas exclaimed, rushing in front of her. โA simple โthank youโ and youโre done?โ
โWhat else do you want?โ Olivia asked, genuinely puzzled.
Lucas leaned in. โDonโt you have some other way of showing gratitude?โ
Without hesitation, Olivia clutched her bag protectively.
โI donโt have money.โ
Chapter 1: A to You Shy?
Lucas was dumbfounded.
โIโm serious,โ Olivia said with a deadpan expression. โI really donโt.โ
Lucas stared at her, utterly speechless.
โOlivia,โ he sighed, โthatโs not what I meantโโ
โOh, good.โ Olivia interrupted, relaxing visibly. โIf thatโs all, Iโll be going.โ
Lucas blinked in disbelief. Is this girl really this stingy?
She had been fearless against a gang of thugs but turned into a miser at the thought of spending money.
โAlright, listen,โ Lucas tried again. โIโve heard youโre a great driver. My friends and I are racing tonight. Wanna join?โ
โNo,โ Olivia replied without hesitation.
Lucasโs eye twitched. Why is she so difficult?
But then he had an idea. Leaning closer, he smirked.
โDonโt you want to know who sent those thugs after you?โ
That got Oliviaโs attention. She paused, narrowing her eyes at Lucas.
โYou know who it is?โ
Lucas chuckled. โLock Bar is my usual hangout. If that Mr. Armstrong is who I think he is, I probably know him.โ
Oliviaโs curiosity was piqued. She didnโt know anyone who might go to such lengths to target her, and this lead could save her a lot of time.
โWhat do you want?โ she asked cautiously.
โHereโs the deal,โ Lucas said, grinning. โIโll take you to Lock Bar to find this Mr. Armstrong, but you have to come race with us tonight.โ
Olivia considered the offer. She had intended to investigate Armstrong on her own, but Lucasโs connection would make things faster.
โFine,โ she agreed after a moment.
Lucas clapped his hands together, triumphant. He turned to Benjamin with a sly grin.
โMr. Benjamin, youโre driving. Letโs head to Lock Bar.โ
Then, leaning closer to his friend, he whispered conspiratorially, โDude, Iโm setting you up here. When we race tonight, you better make your move.โ
Benjamin frowned, confused. โWhat move?โ
Lucas rolled his eyes. โSeriously, man? Youโre hopeless.โ
