Chapter 134
Easton looked out the window. It was late autumn, and the sunlight was harsh.
After a long silence, he spoke in a calm tone: โRefund the money. Sheโs my wife, and paying her medical bills is my responsibility. Also, when you get back, send one of my black cards to Natalie. She can use it however she likes.โ
Xavier was speechless, but he could only follow orders. โAlright, Mr. Garcia.โ
As Xavier stopped at a red light, he refunded the money to Natalie, knowing she wouldnโt accept it.
At that moment, Natalie was having a meal. She noticed the refund and the message.
Xavier: [Ms. Shawn, Mr. Garcia said that since you are his wife, itโs only right for him to pay your medical expenses.]
Natalie immediately called Xavier.
โHello, Ms. Shawn,โ Xavier greeted, putting the call on speaker.
Natalieโs voice was cold: โXavier, tell Mr. Garcia that we are in the process of divorcing. I wonโt use a penny of his money. He once said I didnโt deserve to spend his money, and I never will.โ
She continued with a distant voice. โIโve transferred the money back to you, and donโt send it again. If you have time, tell Easton to finalize the divorce sooner.โ She hung up immediately and transferred the money back again.
Xavier chuckled helplessly. โMr. Garcia, as you just heard, Ms. Shawn wonโt use your money.โ
In truth, all of Eastonโs actions toward Jennifer amounted to nothing more than spoiling a mistress.
Frowning, Easton muttered, โWhat I said back then was just in anger.โ
โBut, Mr. Garcia,โ Xavier continued, โeven if it was just anger, everything you did for Ms. Simpson was the behavior of a man keeping a mistress. The entire Simpson family knows it. They favor her and accept your favoritism toward her.โ
He continued. โYou give her millions every month while ignoring your wife. To us, you are the textbook definition of a scumbag. Mr. Garcia, you shouldnโt delay Ms. Shawnโs future. Just go through with the divorce.โ
โXavier.โ Easton glared at him furiously. โI told you, what I said back then was just in the heat of the moment. Natalie used to be malicious.โ
โMr. Garcia, I donโt want to argue. You and the others only see Jennifer through rose-colored glasses. No matter what she does, sheโs always right in your eyes. Because everyone scolds Ms. Shawn, youโve convinced yourself that sheโs wrong.โ
He paused for a moment and continued speaking. โBut as an outsider, I can see that all youโve done is favoritism. And yet you think youโre being righteous and kind, full of gratitude and affection. True loyalty is what Ms. Shawn has shownโstaying by your side without complaint. From childhood, Jennifer has only ever taken from you without giving anything in return. Sheโs the perfect example of a โwhite moonlightโ โ someone who doesnโt need to contribute but still earns your love.โ
โBut to us, and especially to Ms. Shawn, your actions are terrifying.โ Xavier finished in one breath, feeling immensely satisfied. As the traffic light turned green, he started the car with a grin.
Easton sneered. โYou really took her words to heart and came to act as her messenger, didnโt you?โ He had no intention of divorcing Natalie.
He knew now that Jennifer wasnโt as innocent as she seemed. If Natalie hadnโt shown him the photos and videos, he wouldnโt have believed the truth. Jennifer had been meticulous, but this incident had exposed her secrets.
Xavier laughed. โMr. Garcia, I just think Ms. Shawn is pitiful. Sheโs taken care of you all these years without any income of her own, and you wouldnโt even let her use your money. Youโve used her perfectly as a pawn.โ
He paused for a moment and then continued. โNatalie isnโt just some country girl โ sheโs a brilliant gem. Now that sheโs free of you, sheโs finally shining. Why not let her go?โ
Eastonโs dark eyes locked onto Xavier. โShut up. Now.โ
Every word from Xavier reminded Easton just how despicable heโd been.
Xavier stopped talking, but he felt great inside. Saying what he wanted was cathartic. โIf he had the chance to speak his mind, why not enjoy it?โ he thought. He grinned from ear to ear, already thinking about opening a bottle of wine to celebrate that night.
Easton fell silent, completely lost in thought.
After lunch, Natalie and Murray headed out. Murray had arranged for Natalie and her daughter Luna to stay at a hotel, just across from his apartment.
The hotel suite was luxurious and comfortable.
Natalie, still weak from her illness, sat down and said, โMurray, thank you. Mr. Wayneโs birthday is the day after tomorrow, so weโll return tomorrow.โ
Murray looked exhausted. โThis time, the other side used people from the Storm Alliance. Itโs been impossible to track down whoโs behind it. Our branch lost a major deal, and now the shareholders are questioning my ability. My grandmother has to deal with the boardโs pressure every day.โ
Natalie leaned back on the sofa, letting out a cold laugh. โJennifer tried to ruin you when she couldnโt manipulate you. She wonโt let you become an obstacle.โ
Her expression turned heavy. โThe Spencer family is in for more trouble. We need to find out which company Jennifer is working with. Our best chance is to investigate Bernille now.โ
Natalie looked determined. โLetโs spend today and tomorrow tracking down which company took over your previous deal. If you know anyone there, offer them some money. As long as we get a lead, we can trace it back to Jennifer.โ
Murray shook his head. โIโve already tried that. You know what they told me? The other side offered them a higher profit margin, just to keep the partnerโs identity hidden. Their only condition for the deal was that I wouldnโt find out whoโs behind it.โ
Natalie gave him a meaningful look and smiled. โMurray, you still have two days. Iโm sure weโll uncover something. Iโll take a nap for an hour. Meet me in the hotel lobby afterward, and weโll continue our investigation.โ
Seeing how tired she was, Murray nodded. โAlright. Get some rest.โ Murray stood up and left, his once frivolous figure now appearing much more mature.
After he left, Natalie took off her shoes and lay down on the sofa, too weak to move.
Luna came over with her medicine. โMs. Shawn, take your medicine first.โ
Natalie sat up, took the water Luna handed her, and swallowed the pills.
Luna then gave Natalie a tablet. โMs. Shawn, I did some more digging this morning. One of the business people Murray met with had contact with this woman. Take a look.โ
