Chapter 178
Easton raised an eyebrow, his piercing gaze cold and sharp like ice. โMr. Chambers, Natalie is still my wife.โ
Natalie turned to Maurice and said, โMaurice, you should head back. Donโt worry about me; Iโll find you later. I just need to talk to him.โ Maybe she could finally end this marriage.
Maurice glanced at her, his voice low. โNatalie, Iโll be waiting for you in the car.โ With that, he strode away.
Easton reached out to grab Natalieโs arm, but she dodged him. He looked at his empty hand, momentarily surprised, his expression darkening. โCome back with me.โ
Natalie felt a lump in her throat. โEaston, what are you doing? Youโre the one who told me to leave.โ
Easton replied, โI thought you were just throwing a tantrum. Itโs been over half a year; you should be done with that by now. Just come back with me.โ
Natalie couldnโt help but laugh in frustration. Looking at his handsome face, illuminated by the lights and almost breathtakingly beautiful, she felt a mix of admiration and anger. Any woman would be drawn to him.
She snorted, โEaston, why do you always think Iโm the one causing drama? Itโs because you spend all your time with Jennifer. I just wanted you to come home and take your medicine. Iโve cried and screamed, but you never came home. Why do you get to decide when I leave and when I come back? Iโm telling you right nowโI will NEVER be with you again. Iโd rather die than be with a jerk like you!โ
Easton looked at the hatred in her eyes, suddenly speechless. He knew he was wrong and Jennifer had deceived him. He never loved Natalie, so he never considered her feelings. But those two years of her companionship had woven her into his life, and he had come to see her as a perfect wife. However, with Jenniferโs return, her jealousy and drama had drained his patience. Looking back, he realized how foolish he had been. He was the one who had been played.
A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes, his voice low and edged like a knife. โYouโd rather die than be with me?โ
Natalie felt utterly drained. She simply replied with a soft โMm,โ but her tone was loaded with finality.
Easton gazed at her intently. โBut this isnโt how I wanted things to end. Once Iโve dealt with everything, Iโll bring you back. Until then, you need to keep your distance from other men, especially Maurice. He has influence overseas, but my connections can easily bring him down.โ
Natalie was taken aback. She remembered Eastonโs overseas connections, built since he was eighteen. They were no less formidable than Mauriceโs.
โAre you threatening me?โ She flushed red in anger.
Easton smirked, finding her flustered expression somewhat adorable. He warned her, โNatalie, in this world, if I want something, no one can escape my graspโnot even you. I want you to keep your distance from him when youโre off work. Your grandfather and your older brother are your weaknesses.โ He smiled evilly, his eyes narrowed with a mixture of emotions that Natalie couldnโt decipher.
Natalie glared at him, feeling angry and frustrated. She had made a mistake by letting her older brother and grandfather be exposed to him. Her grandpa and her three brothers were usually low-key and never rubbed shoulders with the rich and powerful.
Easton really find out about my brotherโs whereabouts? she wondered.
The thought frightened her. In her past life, Jennifer had found out where James was, and when he tried to get revenge for her, he was killed by one of Jenniferโs assassins. This time around, she would never let that happen.
Natalie bit her lip, tears brimming in her eyes. โEaston, my brother and grandpa are the people who love me the most in this world. If you dare to touch them, Iโll make sure we go down together. I can save you twice, but I can also kill you ten times.โ She could threaten him as well.
A flicker of menace flashed in Natalieโs eyes. โIโve already died once. You think Iโm still afraid of you?โ
Eastonโs expression shifted. From Lambertโs behavior today, it was clear that Natalie was his top priority, and it showed that she cared about them as well.
He smiled meaningfully, his voice dripping with amusement. โNatalie, youโve always known Iโm not a nice guy. If you want revenge, you shouldnโt let your Achilles' heel be exposed to me."
Natalie closed her eyes, thinking, "Why am I still so naive after living through this once already?!"
After a moment, she opened her eyes and looked at his strikingly handsome face. โEaston, Iโve never saved you or had any true feelings for you. Being trapped together will only bring us both pain, so getting a divorce will take just a few minutes. It wonโt take you long."
Hearing this, Easton smirked slightly. She gave all the credit to Jennifer just to divorce him.
His laughter came from deep in his throat, and the way his Adamโs apple moved made him even more attractive.
Natalieโs gaze locked onto his dark, calm eyes, and their stares intertwined.
In Eastonโs eyes, Natalie had always been beautiful. She usually wore casual clothes, but today she was dressed in a pink dress that accentuated her every move. She had shed her youthful innocence, making her even more alluring now. Despite being married for so long, he had never touched Natalie.
He leaned in closer, his face brushing against her ear as he caught her off guard and nibbled on her earlobe.
โAhโฆโ Natalie gasped in surprise and shot him an angry glare.
Easton felt a strange sense of pleasure at her reaction. โNatalie, you canโt escape this. I told you, thereโs no divorce in this lifetime."
His eyes sparkled with a cruel smile. Natalie sensed his sharp fangs slowly being revealed. Meeting the cruel smirk at the corner of his lips sent a chill down her spine. She countered, โFine, letโs stay locked in this struggle forever. And Iโll work hard to grow stronger until you canโt reach me.โ
With that, Natalie turned to leave. This time, Easton didnโt stop her. Thinking about her last words made him smile. This vibrant Natalie was more captivating than ever.
Just then, his phone buzzed. Easton picked it up and saw it was a call from Jennifer.
โHey, Jennifer.โ He raised his voice deliberately, glancing at Natalieโs retreating figure as she paused for a moment. A hint of a smile appeared in Eastonโs eyes. She still cared about him.
โEaston, Iโm surrounded by two guys, you need to come rescue me!โ Jenniferโs voice was frantic.
But Easton only glanced at Natalie getting into Mauriceโs car and driving away. The smile faded from his eyes, replaced by coldness. โWhere are you?โ
Jennifer replied, โNear your place.โ
โOh, should I call the cops? Iโm too far away to help you.โ Easton hung up, feeling a mix of emotions. He couldnโt let anything happen to Jennifer just yet.
Jennifer looked at the two men surrounding her. They were both overweight, wearing leather jackets, and sported scruffy beards that made them look even more intimidating. When they smiled, their eyes turned into slits, and all she saw were two big bellies.
She was really in trouble. Normally, when she called Easton, he would rush over no matter where he was.
Backing away in fear, she shouted, โGet away! What do you want?"
