Chapter 215
Easton responded indifferently, "This is your first time waiting for me, and after just an hour, you canโt stand it?" His tone was cold, without a hint of warmth.
Back then, when Easton was still a child, he waited for his dad for years.
In order to spend his time with the woman and his illegitimate child outside, his father neglected him and his mother, leaving young Easton waiting every day for his dad to come home.
His waiting was tormenting as well. The naive child thought that if he was obedient and studied hard, his father would come back to see him, but he was wrong.
Over time, he realized his father would never return. His parents' marriage was an arranged one. His mother was beautiful but from a scholarly family, always aloof and distant.
When his father didnโt come back, she never fought or argued but simply focused on living her own life peacefully.
But as a child, he yearned for his fatherโs love.
โKnock, knock.โ William tapped on the table, pulling Easton from his thoughts.
William knew he had no real bond with this son. Yet his father insisted on handing the companyโs management rights to Easton.
"Hmph! You have no respect for your elders. Iโm your dad, and youโre making me wait for you?" William fumed. "If not for Jennifer keeping me company, Iโd have left long ago."
Easton raised an eyebrow, giving a slight smile. The smile didnโt reach his eyes, yet it was still intimidating. "Youโre free to leave. Itโs not like I have to see you."
"You!" Williamโs face turned red with anger, his eyes bloodshot.
โMr. William Garcia,โ Jennifer interjected gently. โCalm down. Easton has been very busy lately, but heโs here now. Itโs been a while since you two met. Itโs not easy to have this moment, so letโs have a good talk, shall we?โ
Jenniferโs gentle tone softened Williamโs expression considerably.
Seeing that William wasnโt as upset anymore, Jennifer pressed a button to summon the waiter to serve the dishes.
Once the food was served, William began eating while casually asking Easton, โI heard youโre no longer planning to divorce that worthless Natalie?"
Eastonโs gaze turned icy. "My marriage is none of your business."
"Hmph! You think I want to meddle in your affairs? Iโve tolerated this long enough. Before, when Natalie refused to divorce, you were determined to leave her. Now that she wants a divorce, youโre the one refusing. Are you out of your mind?" William snapped.
"Natalie is jealous of Jennifer and always schemes against her. That woman has a dark heart. Divorce her, and you can marry Jennifer sooner.
"Jennifer has waited for you for so many years. Why are you making her wait?" William demanded.
Easton looked at Jennifer with a faint, mocking smile. "Because sheโs willing."
William was furious.
Chapter 213
Jennifer caught the undertone of โserves her rightโ in Eastonโs words. In that moment, he made her feel as though he was completely out of her grasp.
He was clearly smiling, yet it felt cold.
"Easton, are you trying to drive me insane?" William glared at him furiously. Ever since Easton was a child, he had been rebellious. Aside from his grandparents, he never listened to anything his father said.
Easton responded with a calm laugh. He crossed his legs elegantly, exuding an air of arrogance and detachment, then said, "And yet youโre still kissing and kicking. Youโve got illegitimate children out there, donโt you? Yesterday, your illegitimate son even called to provoke me.
"Since I met you today, pass on a message to him for me. If thereโs a next time, I wonโt hesitate to feed him to the sharks."
"I dare you!" William slammed his fork down. "Bang!" Sauce splattered onto Jenniferโs outfit.
Her eyes were burning with anger, but she hid it well.
โEvery time they met, Easton always drove his father crazy like this,โ Jennifer thought.
Easton remained unbothered, still sitting casually without touching his food. His long fingers gently tapped the table, showing an air of indifference, as if none of this concerned him at all.
William hated Eastonโs stubborn arrogance, which was just as annoying as his motherโs. He preferred gentle, demure women and couldnโt stand women who acted superior, like Eastonโs mother had. Just because of this, she ended up in a psychiatric hospital.
William looked at Jennifer and said, "Jennifer showed me a video. It clearly shows Natalie poisoning your mother, making her delirious and insane. And you still wonโt divorce her? Are you out of your mind?"
Easton gave Jennifer a cold look.
Jennifer could feel an icy chill run down her spine. She lowered her voice and spoke with grievance, "Easton, youโve ignored this matter for so long.
"I had no choice but to tell Mr. William Garcia and let him handle it. Natalie is nothing but a venomous woman."
Eastonโs gaze turned cold and unfeeling, with a hint of mockery in his smile. "You mean the video you showed me? That powder is herbal medicine, the kind that Natalie gave me for my stomach problems.
"There are still a few packs in my kitchen cabinet. Should I get some for you?"
Jennifer froze for a moment, her mind scrambling. "ThโThisโฆ"
Her eyes were filled with panic. โNo wonder Easton didnโt believe me after I showed him the video before. It turns out he knew about the medicine. Damn it. Natalie is reallyโฆโ Jennifer thought.
Jennifer explained softly, "Easton, I didnโt know itโs medicine for your stomach. Itโs just that your mother was diagnosed with poisoning, and then someone sent me this video. I assumed it was Natalie who poisoned her."
Easton teased with a smirk, "I almost thought youโd climbed into my dadโs bed."
Jennifer was horrified.
Xavier wanted to laugh but held back. โFinally, Easton became protective of Natalie. If he had stood up for her like this earlier, they wouldnโt have broken up,โ he thought.
Williamโs face flushed with anger. "What nonsense are you spouting, Easton?"
Chapter 213
Easton raised an eyebrow at Jennifer. "Iโm just making assumptions, just like Ms. Simpson."
Jennifer froze, her face burning with embarrassment. โHe addressed me as Ms. Simpson?โ she wondered.
โEaston, Iโm sorry. I was just concerned about your mother and wanted to resolve this quickly to seek justice for her. Someone else sent me the video, and I thought it was Natalieโฆ" Jennifer explained.
Jennifer hesitated, carefully choosing her words. She was clever enough to know what to say and what not to. Leaving room for speculation often helped maintain her good reputation.
"Since itโs a misunderstanding, letโs not dwell on it. You must divorce Natalie and marry Jennifer," William interrupted.
Easton chuckled lightly and replied, "Sure."
Jenniferโs face lit up with joy. โSo he still cares for me,โ she thought.
โEaston, I knew you still had feelings for me. Thank you for remembering your promise and agreeing to marry me.โ Jenniferโs heart burned with excitement, almost overwhelming her.
William was equally pleased with his response. โThatโs exactly how my son should behave. This way, I can enjoy a more comfortable life once I step down,โ he thought.
Xavier, however, was dumbfounded. For a moment, he couldnโt process what had just happened. โWhy did my boss agree to marry Jennifer? I thought he had changed, but apparently not,โ he thought.
Frustrated, Xavier stood up, ready to leave, but then he heard Eastonโs next words.
"I can marry Ms. Simpson, but only if you agree to one condition," Easton said.
William asked, "What condition?"
