Oliver shook his head, saying, “Ms. Simpson, that’s impossible. I’ve checked multiple times. She grew up in an impoverished town and has no records of going abroad. Her life story is pretty simple. She didn’t even finish high school to marry Easton in your place. I’ve checked three times already, each time very thoroughly. There’s no way I made a mistake.”

Jennifer frowned, lost in thought. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. She asked, “Do you think any of those guys she hangs out with would give her 15 million dollars without getting something in return?”

Jennifer was puzzled. She couldn’t see Natalie being that charming, yet Natalie had indeed spent 15 million on land. She felt she had underestimated Natalie, who went from being a designer to buying land.

Oliver didn’t say anything. He shook his head and said, “Ms. Simpson, we’ve all been busy filming on the island lately. I’ll look into it once we get back. Maybe she’s buying the land for someone else.”

Oliver’s words persuaded Jennifer. She seemed to find a breakthrough. She asked, "Could it be that she's buying it for Carl?"

Oliver said, “That’s possible. The heiress of Lance Group is in real estate, too. Everyone familiar with the company knows that Carl is just the CEO in name. The actual owner is their family’s heiress.”

Jennifer secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She couldn’t accept the idea of Natalie being better than her.

She looked up at Oliver with a faint smile and said, “Go back and check thoroughly. I’m not comfortable with it. That fool Natalie has slipped from our control.”

Just as Jennifer finished speaking, she got a call from Wendy. She motioned for Oliver to step out first, then answered the phone.

Jennifer called, “Hey, Mom.”

“Jennifer, are you getting used to life on the island? How’s the food there treating you?” Wendy asked with a smile.

Jennifer smiled and said, “Mom, I’m great here and getting used to everything. Thanks for caring.”

Wendy said, “Then I’m relieved. I’m calling to let you know that Sunny embezzled 70 million from our company, leading to our funds being cut off. Everything’s clear now, and I’ve already handed her over to the police. I’ll apply for mandatory enforcement if she doesn’t return the money. Our company is nearly bankrupt, and these scoundrels are still trying to profit. Sunny is nothing but a backstabber. She almost had complications during childbirth. I gave her four months of paid maternity leave so that she could have a good rest. When her mom got sick, I lent her the money for the surgery. I did everything to help her. But she turned out to be a heartless, ungrateful person. She shamelessly betrayed me, stealing 70 million from the company. When I found out it was her, I cried angrily. After the Lance Group backed out, our company was about to collapse, yet that despicable person stole our money, making the situation worse. Jennifer, what should I do?”

Wendy’s voice was trembling and on the verge of tears.

Jennifer’s expression went through a range of emotions after hearing Wendy’s words. She thought, ‘Since when did Wendy start bad-mouthing people? When did she find out the company’s money was moved? That fool, Sunny, will definitely let it slip. If Wendy knows I am the one who orchestrated it, I am doomed.’

‘Besides, it would make Wendy suspicious. Even if Wendy does have liquid assets, her family’s real estate is worth hundreds of millions, with some still controlled by those two old folks from the Tompson family. As long as I inherit that wealth, I’ll become a wealthy woman everyone looks up to. So, I must cover that 70 million shortfall. But where could I get the money? All my money has been invested in real estate.’

Jennifer smiled and said, “Mom, maybe Sunny had an urgent situation. Give her some time, and maybe she’ll make up that 70 million shortfall.”

Wendy said, “Jennifer, I went to the police station to see her this morning. She didn’t say anything, and it really made me angry. How did I end up raising such an ungrateful person? Even a dog would wag its tail for us. I ended up raising a snake instead. Jennifer, I’m giving her ten days. If she hasn’t returned the money within those ten days, I’ll apply for the court to enforce it. I heard that Sunny’s husband is a lazy bum. Jennifer fell silent. She furrowed her brows. She never underestimated Wendy, who had a real knack for business. She had learned a lot from Wendy.

Wendy said, “Jennifer, she’s heartless. There are too many bad people these days; you must be careful out there.” Jennifer’s face turned even paler, almost twisted and fierce. Wendy smiled and said, “Okay. Jennifer, be safe.”

Within ten days, she is bound to return those 70 million. No matter who is supporting her, I will reclaim my money, every last cent.’

With a heavy heart, Wendy stood by the window, looking at the world outside. She gave up her four sons for the company’s sake and to protect her parents’ lifetime of hard work. Reflecting on her younger days, she was quite courageous, having five children. Yet, she didn’t expect Nick to be a heartless jerk. She finally realized that Nick didn’t love anyone but himself. For money, he’d sacrifice anyone, including his mistress and Jennifer. Last time, Camellia hit Wendy. Wendy vowed to revenge herself on Camellia, making her cry before Nick.

Wendy narrowed her eyes, thinking, ‘It’s time to cut off financial support to Nick’s illegitimate children. I must have an honest conversation with Natalie.’ Wendy knew that Natalie was holding a grudge. She thought with regret, ‘Natalie is soft-hearted and longed for my love. But what did I do? I pushed her away and raised a bunch of ungrateful people instead.’

“Mom,” Declan called as he limped into the office.

Wendy turned around, her gaze icy cold. She asked, “What are you doing here? Get out.”

Declan was taken aback by Wendy’s coldness. He said, “Mom, what do you mean by that? I just wanted to teach Natalie a lesson. Isn’t she doing fine? Do you really need to get angry at me like this?”

Wendy made an internal call. She said, “Maria, release an announcement that I’m cutting ties with my third son because he’s a wretch who offered his sister to other men. He doesn’t deserve to be my son. Write it just like that.”

Declan was shocked. He walked over and took Wendy’s phone. He told Maria, “Hold off on posting the news. Let me talk to my mom first.”
