Chapter 291
โHello?โ Natalie answered the phone.
โItโs me,โ Eastonโs deep voice came through.
As soon as Natalie heard it, she was about to hang up.
Easton seemed to know Natalie was about to hang up. โNatalie, donโt hang up. I need to talk to you.โ
Natalieโs voice was cold: โSpeak.โ
Easton said, โMr. Spencer mentioned that if you let Davian go, heโll give you the land in the western suburb. I know youโve been looking to buy that land to enter the real estate market. Itโs pretty rare, so maybe you should think about it.โ
Natalie heard this and said with anger, โEaston, you are the one who wants the land in the western suburb. Are you trying to convince me so you can get that piece of land?โ
Natalie said, โNo way. I wonโt let him go free because he tried to kill me. The land shouldnโt be developed. Get an expert to check, and youโll understand. Itโs the perfect resting place for a wealthy and powerful general. Why would I buy it?โ
Easton instantly grasped Natalieโs point.
Easton asked, โHow did you know there was an ancient tomb there?โ
Natalie smiled. โThanks to you, Iโve figured out a lot of things.โ
If Easton hadnโt killed Natalie once, leading to her rebirth, she wouldnโt know the future.
Natalie would never forget the moment Easton ended her life when she was pregnant. She would never allow herself to die before seeing Easton and Jennifer meet their end in this lifetime.
Natalie hung up the phone, filled with a murderous intent.
Even now, Easton wanted to use her.
Natalie remembered that a few years later, Easton purchased the land in the western suburb at a high price. He poured a huge amount of money into it, only to find an ancient tomb there.
It ended up being protected by the government, leaving him unable to develop it, resulting in a loss of at least 500 million dollars.
Jennifer was scheming, and Eastonโs company began to decline.
When Natalie mentioned this, it wasnโt to remind Easton. She hadnโt altered Eastonโs storyline, so he would continue down the same path as before.
But Natalie kept feeling that something was off with Easton these days. Out of nowhere, he decided not to proceed with the divorce, which was giving her quite a headache.
Easton was stubborn. When he set his mind on something, he had to have it.
The land on the western suburb was practically Eastonโs.
Across the way, in Eastonโs office, Easton glared at the phone Natalie had hung up on. His handsome face was darkened.
Easton looked across at Xavier and said, โI thought she wanted to buy land and get into real estate, and I wanted to give her some advice. How did it turn into me using her to get the land in the western suburb?โ
Xavier chuckled and said, โMr. Garcia, itโs because you and the Simpsons always bend over backward for Jennifer. Especially when Ms. Shawn has something and Jennifer wants it, you guys find a way to use Natalie or take it from her.โ
Xavier said, โSo, Ms. Shawnโs suspicion of you is quite understandable.โ
Easton furrowed his brows. Some things happen without realizing it.
Easton remembered one time when Natalie had a beautiful bag that Jennifer wanted, so he asked Natalie to give it to her.
Back then, Easton thought Natalie didnโt go out much, while Jennifer often went with him to parties, so he figured Natalie should give the bag to Jennifer.
The look in Natalieโs eyes was full of disappointment at that moment.
Eventually, Natalie did give the bag to Jennifer.
But Natalieโs gaze towards him grew colder and colder.
At the time, Easton thought Natalie didnโt need the bag.
Easton married Natalie, yet was always seen with Jennifer. Honestly, it was all his fault.
Easton took a deep breath. The clearer the truth got, the more irritated he became.
No wonder Natalie hated Easton so much.
Natalie was the one who gave everything, but Easton ended up loving the wrong person.
Easton felt inexplicably frustrated. He tugged at his tie and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt.
Easton still felt like he couldnโt breathe. The image of Natalieโs beautiful, yet resentful eyes lingered in his mind, making him even more agitated.
Xavier watched Easton, wondering if maybe Easton realized he had made a mistake and regretted it.
Eastonโs phone rang noisily on his desk. He picked it up and saw Jenniferโs name on the screen.
โHello?โ Easton answered, his voice rough and low.
Every time Jennifer heard Easton use that tone, she knew he was angry.
Jennifer gently spoke in a soft voice, โEaston, you promised to have lunch with me. Iโm downstairs at the office.โ
Easton replied, โYeah, Iโll be down in a minute.โ
Easton hung up the phone, grabbed his cell, and headed downstairs.
Xavier shook his head, thinking how Jenniferโs call made him rush over immediately. The power of that first love aura was truly intimidating.
Xavier thought to himself that if he ever dated someone, heโd treat the woman he likes well, never letting her get hurt. Xavier suddenly imagined Lunaโs beautiful face, and with a shiver, pushed the thought of her out of his mind.
Xavier thought Luna sure was fierce.
After Easton went downstairs, he saw Jennifer dressed beautifully in a pink dress with a matching trench coat. Her long hair danced in the cold wind, making her look both pure and gentle.
Easton banned Jennifer from the company, and she knew to back off.
Jennifer said, โEaston, there you are. I made a reservation at the restaurant ahead, so letโs head over there now.โ
Easton glanced at her and nodded. โYeah, letโs go."
Inside the upscale restaurant, sitting face to face, Eastonโs commanding presence was hard to ignore. Not far away, reporters were discreetly taking photos of them.
Smiling, Jennifer asked, โEaston, have you been busy lately?โ
Easton gave a slight nod. โYeah.โ
Jennifer said, โNo wonder you never have time to call me. Easton, is our relationship becoming distant? Do you not like me anymore?โ
Easton gave her a deep, unreadable look. Up close, Jennifer was beautiful, but compared to Natalieโs beauty, Jennifer was nowhere near as attractive.
Easton gave a faint smile, but his voice was cold. โJennifer, havenโt I treated you well for over a decade? Isnโt that enough?โ
Jennifer gave a gentle smile, shook her head lightly, and said coquettishly, โNot enough, Easton. A lifetime is what it takes. We will be together forever, and you promised youโd marry me."
Easton said, โThatโs because you saved me and have always been with me since childhood. Iโm grateful to you.โ
โIf heโs grateful, why wonโt he marry me?โ Jennifer couldnโt understand his actions, and she thought.
Jennifer thought, โWhy didnโt he finish his sentence?โ
Easton took a bite of his steak before saying, โAs for why I promised to marry you, you already know. But I canโt marry you now, and you know the reason. Jennifer, weโre not meant to be.โ
Eastonโs eyes were so deep that Jennifer couldnโt figure out what he was thinking.
Jennifer used to be able to read Eastonโs thoughts easily, but now, she couldnโt understand him at all.
โWeโre not meant to be,โ brought tears to Jenniferโs eyes. Easton was leaving her. Jennifer shook her head and cried. โEaston, you canโt leave me alone.โ
