Chapter 384
Natalie nodded and said, โAlright. Iโll go with you for the investigation.โ
Natalie was taken into the police car, leaving Luna angry. She said, โDamn Jennifer, always plotting.โ Then, she drove off to find Chris.
As Easton finished his meeting and stepped out, Xavier nervously said, โMr. Garcia, something terrible has happened.
โSomeone reported that Mrs. Garcia was involved in an incident last night, accusing her of killing Maris. You should check the news right away.โ
Eastonโs eyes were cold and serious as he looked at the tablet Xavier handed over, a sharp glint in his gaze as he read the news.
He said, โItโs Jennifer. Sheโs trying to clear her name. Natalie was with me and Murray last night. How could she have committed a murder?โ
Xavier was shocked. He asked, โMr. Garcia, how were the three of you together?โ He added to himself, โAre you guys having that much fun?โ He swallowed hard; his thoughts had wandered.
Easton didnโt notice Xavierโs expression. He went into the office and called Jennifer.
โHello! Easton,โ Jennifer greeted. Her voice was soft and gentle.
Eastonโs voice was cold and harsh as he said, โJennifer, havenโt I warned you not to mess with Natalie?โ
Hearing Eastonโs chilling tone, Jennifer was startled. Her anger flared after she realized that Easton was calling her because of Natalie.
She replied, โEaston, it wasnโt me, I swear. How could I possibly frame Natalie? Nora stood up for me on her own. I truly did nothing.โ
Easton sat on the sofa, his tall and imposing figure radiating a cool, aloof presence that kept others at a distance.
โYou know deep down if it was you,โ Easton said, โIโve warned you not to play with fire. Natalieโs my wife, and tarnishing her name is the same as tarnishing mine. Jennifer, Iโve completely run out of patience with you.โ
Easton hung up the phone and asked Xavier to come in.
โMr. Garcia,โ Xavier greeted him.
Eastonโs eyes burned with anger, but his voice remained calm as he said, โCrush the Lewis family with full force, prepare to acquire them, and tell Nora that being Jenniferโs lapdog comes with the responsibility to handle the consequences.โ
Xavier was a bit surprised yet filled with delight. He said, โMr. Garcia, are you planning to help Mrs. Garcia now?โ Easton furrowed his brows and asked, โShouldnโt I help her?โ
Xavier shook his head and said, โNo, itโs just surprising and quite shocking. When Mrs. Garcia had issues before, you never stepped in. This is the first time youโre actually helping her, so it caught me off guard.โ
Eastonโs heart suddenly trembled. Natalie had taken care of him for two years, yet he never helped her even once. He stood up irritably and said, โHandle it immediately.โ
Xavier sighed and said, โIโm afraid Mrs. Garcia wonโt be grateful now. Mr. Garcia, when she needed you the most, you didnโt offer your help or trust.โ
Easton had exhausted all the goodwill he had with Natalie.
After speaking, Xavier didnโt care about Eastonโs expression and dashed out of the office like his life depended on it.
But at that moment, Easton was lost in thought about Xavierโs words: โMr. Garcia, this is the first time youโve helped Mrs. Garcia.โ
He realized that he had never truly given anything to Natalie. While she gave her all, he took it for granted. He regretted it. It seemed like he had forced Natalie into everything she did.
Before, divorce was what he wanted most. Oddly enough, when Natalie agreed to sign the papers, he no longer wanted it.
He once believed Jennifer was the kindest person. Jennifer often schemed against Natalie out of jealousy. Sometimes, Jennifer went overboard, and he pretended not to notice.
From a young age, he understood one thing: no one truly loved him. His grandparents saw their relationship with him as a responsibility. There might have been love, but it wasnโt everything.
He didnโt have the ability to love anyone. He thought he loved Jennifer, but he didnโt. When Jennifer slept with other men, he felt nothing, just disgusted.
Back then, Natalie was always around him, which annoyed him. He thought women should respect themselves and have their own lives.
But he was wrong. That was exactly the behavior of Natalie loving him. Because she cared, she paid attention to everything.
Watching Natalie with other men made Easton angry and jealous. After she left, he always felt like a piece was missing inside.
He thought he was just used to Natalieโs presence. But as three months passed, then six, the emptiness inside him only grew. With Natalie staying with him these past few days, it felt like that missing part was filled again.
He realized that the distance between him and Jennifer had reached a breaking point simply because Jennifer was his lifesaver.
The more Easton thought about it, the more he felt like a jerk. Feeling restless, he stood up and glanced at his phone. Natalie hadnโt called him.
As her husband, when Natalie was in trouble, even when she explained, Easton didnโt listen and instead joined Jenniferโs group to bully her. He didnโt know when it started, but he had pushed away a woman who loved him.
Suddenly, Easton saw a news alert that Natalie had been taken away by the police near a mall. His eyes widened. He grabbed his car keys from the desk and left the office, heading to the police station.
The Lewis family lived in a spacious apartment in the city center because Noraโs parents needed to stay in town for work.
Right now, Nora was lounging with a tablet, enjoying the drama of Natalie getting dragged online. She chatted with Jennifer while enjoying the gossip.
Nora said: [Jennifer, thereโs no way Natalie is getting out of this one.]
Jennifer replied: [Thanks, Nora. Once this is over, Iโll help set up the collaboration your dad wanted.]
Nora was thrilled. She could finally assist her dad with work matters. Her parents would be happy.
Suddenly, there was an angry knock on the door.
Nora jumped in surprise. She put down her tablet and went to open the door, only to see Paul looking furious. She quickly stepped back because she had never seen Paul this angry before.
Nora asked, โDโDad, whatโs going on?โ
Paul showed the video on his phone to Nora and angrily asked, โNora, is Jennifer your mom or your grandmother? Why are you doing this to defend her?โ
Paul was so furious that he said something he never thought he would. Noraโs video had destroyed his lifeโs work.
Nora was terrified and started crying. She said, โDad, what are you saying? Sheโs my friend. Weโve known each other since college. Sheโs been really nice to me, you know that.โ
Paul replied, โAlright! Sheโs been nice to you, but weโve been bad parents. Iโll help you pack so you can go live with her and do whatever she says because, apparently, we canโt let you do what you want.
โWe tell you to study hard, but you think weโre pushing you too much. With Jenniferโs simple words, youโre all over the internet defending her. Sheโs the one who supports you. Go to her. Let her take care of you from now on.โ
Nora was shocked and cried. She had never seen Paul so frightening. She said, โDad, donโt be like this. Iโm scared. Whatโs wrong with you? Why are you saying these things to me?โ
