Chapter 73
Hearing this, Easton gave a mocking smile and said, โPlaying the field? You had lunch with Mr. Zimmermanโs son earlier today, and you both seemed to be having a good time. How is it fine for you to have dinner with a man, yet when my wife does the same, itโs considered โplaying the fieldโ?โ
Jennifer was stunned. She thought, โWhat? What did he just say? Did I hear that right? He just said โhis wifeโ? Is he admitting right to my face that Natalie is his wife now?โ
She said, โEaston, what are you talking about? The person you love is meโฆโ
Easton declared coldly, โIโve never loved you. Being good to you doesnโt mean I love you. The times I was good to you, times I indulged and helped you again and again, it was because you saved me all those years ago.
โBut your recent actions have left me deeply disappointed. I told you that last night would be the last time Iโd help you. Iโve already lost several projects because of you, costing me at least 500 million dollars. Jennifer, you should learn to be content.โ
With that, Easton got into the car parked by the roadside.
After getting in, he turned to Xavier. โFollow them.โ
Behind him, Jennifer stood in the wind, so angry that tears filled her eyes.
She stomped her foot hard and watched with resentment as Eastonโs car drove away.
โEaston, how dare you not love me! How dare you love Natalie instead?โ Jennifer muttered to herself.
She couldnโt believe that just because of these two incidents, Easton had abandoned her.
They were a perfect match on screenโeveryone believed they were meant for each other.
She had put in so much effort to earn Eastonโs trust and to drive Natalie away from him.
This wasnโt the outcome she wanted. She wanted Easton to hate Natalie entirely, to the point where heโd even want to kill her.
Eastonโs nature was eccentric and unpredictable. Jennifer had used the fact that she saved him years ago to earn his extreme affection.
She couldnโt help but wonder if Easton had seen through her act of being a gentle and kind girl because of the two incidents.
She wouldnโt let that happen.
She had to marry Easton and ensure he would inherit the Garcia familyโs wealth and property.
She would pave the way for him, waiting for his return.
Lifting the hem of her blue dress, Jennifer walked to the roadside and hailed a cab to follow Easton.
A strange smile crossed her face as she thought, โEaston, donโt think you can easily get rid of me.โ
She took out her phone and instructed the driver to drive based on Eastonโs real-time location.
Murray led Natalie to a private room in an upscale restaurant.
Inside, an elderly lady sat, wearing an indigo dress and a pearl necklace, her naturally white hair styled in an elegant bun; she exuded grace and nobility.
Seeing Natalie enter, she displayed a gentle and graceful smile. โNatalie, youโre here. Come, sit by me.โ
Looking at the kind, approachable Emma, Natalie felt a bit guilty. At the last banquet, she had made a scene, even going so far as to give Emmaโs beloved grandson a beating.
Now, with Emma treating her so kindly during their second meeting, Natalie felt a little unreal, and her steps faltered slightly.
โItโs good to see you, Emma!โ said Natalie.
โGood to see you too! And ever since I took your medicine, Iโve been feeling much better,โ replied Emma.
She was very fond of Natalie. Thinking of how skillfully Natalie had handled things last time, she could tell Natalie was broad-minded and not someone to be underestimated.
Natalieโs broad-mindedness allowed her to embrace all kinds of people and experiencesโsomething Murray couldnโt do. Murray was quite petty in comparison.
โEmma, hereโs a gift for you: some pills for minor ailments.โ Natalie handed over a delicately crafted box.
Emma took it with a smile, holding it tightly as if it were a treasure.
Despite her young age, Natalieโs medical skills were remarkable.
Murray, on the other hand, wasnโt too pleased. โNatalie, donโt I get a gift?โ he asked.
Natalie rummaged through her bag for a moment, pulled out a pitch-black pill, and handed it to him. โA life-saving pillโdo you want it? Murray, I know you like racing, but itโs dangerous. Always check your car carefully before you get in.โ Murrayโs eyes flickered as he took the pill with a smile, thinking it might save his life in a critical moment.
As Natalie watched him take the pill, her eyes gleamed with a faint coldness. That pill wasnโt meant for Murray but for Jason.
But Jason wouldnโt believe what she said.
In her previous life, Natalie had noticed there was something wrong with Jasonโs car. She had warned him, but he didnโt listen. After the accident, he and Jennifer had falsely accused her of being the one responsible.
Jennifer was a proactive and ambitious woman, cunning and adept at manipulating others. In these recent instances, if Natalie hadnโt been prepared, clearing her name would have been nearly impossible.
Jennifer had a delicate appearance that made men want to protect her. Many men were deeply infatuated with her.
The four Simpson brothers doted on her excessively, giving her whatever she wanted.
This time around, Natalie wasnโt going to stop the same events from unfolding.
โNatalie, what are you thinking about?โ Murrayโs voice interrupted her thoughts.
Snapping back to reality, Natalie glanced at his handsome, devilishly charming face and smiled faintly. โNothing much. I just remembered thereโs a racing event coming up. I heard you like racing too. Could you take me along to watch?โ
She liked racing too, but all she wanted was to see Jason ruin himself.
That guy had always treated her terribly.
Both Murray and Emma were momentarily taken aback.
Murray asked with a smile, โNatalie, do you like racing?โ
Natalie regained her composure and smiled softly. โI like watching it!โ
She did enjoy it, but her grandfather had always forbidden her from participating, afraid she would get hurt. If she dared to race, he would certainly be furious.
Emma glanced at Murray and said, โMurray, how hard can it be? Just take Natalie to the race when the time comes.โ
Murray, who was always obedient to his grandmother because she pampered him the most, smiled and said, โGrandma, thatโs no problem. Iโll bring Natalie along and let her experience the thrill of high-speed racing.โ
โGreat. You young folks enjoy yourselves. I wonโt intrude,โ said Emma.
Suddenly, her expression became serious as she continued, โNatalie, tell me, whoโs behind Jennifer? Iโve been investigating for so long but havenโt found anything. I am sure that she put something in the water, which caused my illness.โ
Natalie thought for a moment. In her previous life, the Spencer family had been taken over by that very person backing Jennifer a year later.
She said, โEmma, it wonโt be long before that person reveals themselves. Just be extra cautious this year.โ
Emma had come today just for this confirmation.
She had already consulted with a fortune-teller, who had warned that both she and their family were going to face a major calamity this year.
Having narrowly escaped one disaster, she was now prepared for the next, thanks to Natalieโs warning.
Murray narrowed his eyes dangerously, entranced by Natalieโs stunningly beautiful and slightly rosy cheeks.
Even in casual clothes, she looked gorgeous with a dignified air. Her natural beauty turned any outfit into a mere backdrop for her striking features.
