Chapter 22

Sebastian lightly ruffled Daphne’s hair. His voice was casual, but tinged with concern. “It’s nothing serious. You just have a cold. The doctor said you need to finish this IV drip. Once you’re done, we’ll talk about the rest.”

Daphne glanced at the steadily dripping medicine, watching it slowly fill the bag. She had already been hooked up for about an hour.

“Have you been here the whole time?”

The media loved to gossip about Sebastian. His personal life was always a mess, but his business dealings were ruthless and efficient. Yet, Daphne couldn’t help but feel that the rumors didn’t match the Sebastian she had come to know over the past few days.

He raised an eyebrow, amused. “What, you thought I’d leave you here alone?”

Daphne flushed, feeling guilty. “I didn’t mean to be such a burden, especially when you’re probably so busy.”

Sebastian shrugged. “You’re my future wife. Taking care of you is the least I can do.” He handed her a small piece of chocolate. “I heard you like this chocolate, so I got you some.”

Daphne blinked, surprised. “How did you know?”

When her blood sugar dropped, she always kept a stash of these chocolates in her bag for emergencies.

Sebastian grinned playfully. “As your future husband, I’m supposed to know these little details, right?”

Daphne smiled. “Thank you, hubs. Let me know if you need anything.”

Before they could continue, there was a knock at the door. A few men in suits entered, carrying folders. They looked formal and businesslike.

Daphne raised an eyebrow. “Can I help you?”

“Ms. Yeager, we’re Mr. Farrell’s lawyers. We need to discuss the division of assets related to your divorce.”

Division of assets? Hadn’t they already settled that?

“He said we’d get an even split. What’s the issue?” Daphne asked, confused.

“While that was the agreement, considering your infidelity during the marriage, Mr. Farrell now requires you to leave with nothing.”

Daphne’s eyes widened. She remembered Yvonne hinting at this during their last meeting at Starlight. She hadn’t taken it seriously then, but now, it seemed Wilson was actually going through with it.

The lawyer, Coby Hilton, spoke matter-of-factly: “Mr. Farrell has provided evidence that puts you at a disadvantage. We’ll need to renegotiate the division of assets. We hope you’ll cooperate.”

“Renegotiate?” Daphne scoffed, a laugh escaping despite her anger. “How exactly does he want to renegotiate?”

Coby handed her a new document. “Here’s the new agreement. Please take a look.”

Daphne could hardly believe it. “He actually has the nerve…”

Before she could finish, the sound of clicking heels grew closer—loud and almost maddening. There was only one person who made such a dramatic entrance: Yvonne.

“Wilson, it doesn’t matter if Daphne destroyed the house. You owe her nothing,” Yvonne said, appearing at the door, arm in arm with Wilson.

Wilson’s cold gaze flicked to Daphne’s IV. He paused before looking away. “Daphne, did you destroy the house?”

Daphne didn’t respond.

Wilson stepped further into the ward. His presence was imposing. “You think by destroying the house, you’re going to get away with it?”

Though his voice was low, Daphne could feel the simmering anger.

“And what if I did destroy the house?” she shot back.

“You know the consequences of crossing me, don’t you?”

Wilson’s words dripped with a cold threat, but Daphne had had enough. She could almost picture him coming home to the wreckage, furious, immediately calling his lawyers to rewrite the agreement to make her suffer.
