Chapter 24
Even if her new company succeeded, Daphne knew she wouldn't survive in this industry as a woman with a tarnished reputation. In her past life, she had already hurt Sebastian because of a similar situation. Now, given a second chance, she couldn't let history repeat itself.
"Clean up the mess," Wilson said, glancing at Coby. He carefully wrapped his arm around Yvonne and left the ward.
"Ms. Yeager, here's my business card. Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever want to discuss anything," Coby said, wisely following Wilson and Yvonne.
Once they were gone, Sebastian walked over, casually inspecting her IV drip. "All done? How are you feeling?"
Daphne nodded. "Much better." The anger had given her a bit of energy.
"Sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to drag you into this mess." She gave him an apologetic smile.
Sebastian shrugged, unfazed, and skillfully pulled the needle from her arm. "It's no trouble. I'm just handling some annoying people."
Daphne raised an eyebrow, surprised. "You know how to handle needles?"
"Yeah, I learned a little from my grandfather," Sebastian replied nonchalantly. "But seriously, you're something else. Destroying Wilson's house like that?"
Sebastian's focus was always on the strangest things. He wasn't fazed by the false accusations or the photo Wilson had used to threaten them. What mattered to him was Daphne's IV and the fact that she had destroyed Wilson's property.
"Let that bitch live in my house? I'd rather destroy it," Daphne muttered, disgusted. She wasn't about to let them take advantage of her, even if it meant losing out.
"Oh, by the way, one of my guys just sent me a photo of Zane. Take a look." Sebastian handed her his phone. When she opened the photo, Daphne snorted. The guy looked like a troublemaker, with a shifty expression and a face that screamed "bad news."
Yvonne, with her shallow mind, probably couldn't come up with a more sophisticated plan. She'd send someone close to her to handle this, and that person seemed to have a strong connection to Yvonne.
Just as she was analyzing the photo, voices rang out:
"Daph! Are you okay? Why are you in the hospital?"
It was Ava and Wendy. They had heard the news and rushed over. Panic was evident in their voices.
Daphne flashed them a reassuring smile and flexed her arm. "I'm fine; it's just an IV drip. You two are worried for nothing. What are you doing here?"
She grinned, then pointed to Sebastian. "Say hello. This is Mr. Turner."
Both Ava and Wendy froze, surprised, but quickly composed themselves. "Hello, Mr. Turner," they said in unison.
Sebastian gave a slight nod, a small smile on his lips. "I've got to head out. I have business to take care of. But since your friends are here, I'll let you catch up."
After Sebastian left, Daphne filled them in on what had happened. Both Ava and Wendy didn't hold back their anger toward Wilson and Yvonne, venting about them. Of course, they couldn't help but compliment Sebastian.
"Daph, I think Mr. Turner is great. Maybe you should give him a shot?" Ava teased, nudging Daphne's arm.
Wendy joined in, grinning. "I agree. But hey, didn't you ask him to look into the person spreading those rumors? Any updates?"
