Chapter 119 Up To Her Old Tricks Again
For the following two days, Madelyn dutifully stayed at home to rest and recuperate. Only after the injuries on her body and legs had completely healed did she finally return to school. She finally met Janessa this time around.
Janessa happened to spot Madelyn and immediately made her way over. “Madelyn, are your legs feeling any better?” Janessa asked, feigning concern.
Madelyn sneered inwardly, exaggerating on purpose. “I was at home resting for two days, just barely recovered.”
“Is it that serious?” Janessa asked.
Madelyn feigned a sense of injustice as she nodded. “That’s right, how about you? Are you okay?”
Upon hearing this, Janessa thought to herself, “How dare this despicable woman even ask?” Right after she was beaten up, Janessa went home to take a shower, only to discover her body was covered in bruises. Even now, the bruises on her body had not completely healed. However, on the surface, Janessa still feigned goodwill and said, “I’m fine.”
“Really? That’s fantastic! I’ve been worrying about you these past couple of days,” Madelyn immediately seized the opportunity to express her concern.
Janessa gave a disingenuous smile. “It’s just a minor injury, don’t worry too much about it.”
“Uh huh!” Madelyn nodded, yet she couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. Sorry, but truth be told, I can’t be bothered about you.
Then, classes started. Ever since Ruth was dismissed, someone else had taken over the position of the main professor. The professor who took her place was named Harper, who was approximately forty years old. She was tall and slender, with striking, well-defined features and pale skin. At first glance, she seemed somewhat like a foreigner.
After greeting her students, Harper announced, “Next, we will reveal the exam results from the other day.” And then she began to recite.
Janessa was confident that, with all the recent events, Jillian’s scores would surely fall behind hers. However, Harper announced, “Congratulations to Jillian for achieving the highest score in this financial exam. Madelyn, trailing by only twenty points, secured the second position.”

The classroom instantly erupted in applause. Madelyn covered her mouth in surprise, unable to believe that she had actually scored so high! Immediately, Jillian turned around and caught Madelyn’s eyes. For a moment, both of them were brimming with excitement. In contrast, the color drained from Janessa’s face, leaving her looking incredibly distressed.
Why? Why on earth is this happening? Falling behind Jillian was one thing, but how had someone as dim-witted as Madelyn managed to surpass her? Anger welled up in Janessa’s eyes upon that thought. She was so furious that she felt like flipping a table. Meanwhile, Madelyn couldn’t help but chuckle as she watched her.
Her mind involuntarily wandered back to the recent incident involving Jillian. Although they had dealt with Ruth, in reality, it was Janessa who was the original mastermind behind everything. However, Janessa was just too good at concealing herself. Plus, with so many people covering for her, she managed to dodge the bullet.
Nevertheless, Madelyn decided to take it slow as she had plenty of time to deal with Janessa.
School was dismissed at noon. Madelyn made her way to the cafeteria for a meal. Upon seeing this, Jillian picked up her tray and chose to sit across from her.
“Jillian, why are you only eating vegetables?” Madelyn asked curiously after sitting down. Jillian’s bowl was filled entirely with vegetables.
Upon hearing those words, Jillian chuckled awkwardly. “We’re going through tough times at home, so saving every little penny counts.”
“That’s not good. Where would you get your nutrients if you don’t eat meat?” Madelyn asked with concern. She then started to pass pieces of her own meat to Jillian. “Eat mine, I can’t finish it anyway.”
Moved deeply, Jillian gave a nod. At that moment, Janessa spotted where Madelyn was seated and immediately approached her with a beaming smile.
“Madelyn, I’ve been looking for you everywhere. So, you’ve been here all along?” It was only then that she noticed that Jillian was also present, which immediately made Janessa feel a bit awkward. Jillian lowered her head, acting as if she didn’t want to see her.

She said, “Right, Jillian. Janessa mentioned to me that she wanted to apologize to you specifically. Now is the perfect opportunity, Janessa, why don’t you apologize to Jillian?” Both of them paused in surprise at that.
Especially Janessa, she hadn’t expected that Madelyn would actually bring up the matter.
“Maybe I’ll do it next time,” Janessa said, suddenly feeling a bit awkward.
“No. You have to do it now,” Madelyn, however, didn’t agree. “Janessa, if it weren’t for you, Jillian wouldn’t have suffered so much, right? Just apologize sincerely, I believe Jillian will definitely forgive you,” Madelyn said, her face full of smiles.
Janessa immediately regretted making her way over to Madelyn. However, left with no other choice, she reluctantly apologized.
“Jillian, about what happened on the forum before, I’m sorry.” Jillian couldn’t help but furrow her brows at her apology. Her tone of apology is insincere. It is clear that she’s just going through the motions.
And so, she replied coldly, “Thank you for your apology, but I’m not accepting it.” Janessa’s face turned ashen.
She turned to Madelyn helplessly, hoping that she would put in a good word for her. Madelyn, however, acted as if she hadn’t noticed anything. Pretending to be enthusiastic, she looked at the vegetables in Jillian’s bowl and said, “I suddenly find these greens quite delicious. I should buy some next time.”
Janessa seethed with resentment, yet she could do nothing but let it go. Then, unabashedly, she took a seat next to Madelyn.
During the meal, Madelyn and Jillian were deeply engrossed in conversation. They chatted about everything under the sun, from gossip to news, nothing was off the table. Moreover, the two were in such harmony that they inadvertently left Janessa out. Janessa sat stiffly, feeling as insignificant as the air around her, with a sense of reluctance brewing in her heart. She wanted to interject, but found herself unable to. It was a frustrating feeling.
Finally, she could only blurt out loudly, “Madelyn, next month is Old Mrs. Lockhart’s seventieth birthday. I heard from my dad that the Lockhart family is going to throw a grand banquet. There will be a lot of people attending, is that true?”
Upon hearing those words, Madelyn paused.
After some thought she responded.

Janessa followed up enthusiastically, “So, what kind of gift are you thinking of getting? Why don’t we go shopping together? We could also invite Sebastian along to help us choose.”
Madelyn couldn’t help but let out a quiet, bitter chuckle under her breath at her suggestion.
Old habits die hard. Janessa was up to her tricks again. Thinking back, she could clearly remember that in her previous life, she was utterly ruined by Janessa on the night of Agnes‘ birthday. The banquet was grand and extraordinarily lively that day. As the daughter–in–law of the Thornton family, Madelyn naturally had to make her presence known to everyone. Janessa had deliberately called her during the banquet. Over the phone, she feigned anxiety, claiming that Christopher had met with trouble. She then tricked her into rushing out immediately.
