Chapter 131 I Am Not Leaving
As the car turned the corner, the headlights of the car behind came chasing again.
Madelyn cursed under her breath. "Are these people insane? Do they really want to kill me?"
"This isnโt going to work. At this rate, it is only a matter of time before they catch up!" Madelyn said, her voice tensed.
"What do we do then?" Josiah was equally nervous. "Brat, be careful! I donโt want to die!"
"You think I do?" Madelyn retorted.
Then, she said calmly, "If you want to live, hold on tight."
"What?"
Josiah felt worse than ever. The car is already going so fast that it feels like it is about to take off! But seeing her action, does she mean to accelerate even more?
With that thought in mind, Josiah yelled. "Are you crazy? You want to speed up? Thatโs too dangerous!"
"Yes, I am crazy! But I have to go faster. If they catch up with us, it will be even more dangerous!" Madelyn said coolly.
These people were determined to run her off the cliff, so she couldnโt let them succeed.
"Isnโt there another way?" Josiah asked, exasperated.
Madelyn suddenly smiled. "There is."
"What is it?" Josiah asked immediately.
Madelyn explained, "If we keep going like this, theyโll never stop chasing us. So weโll speed up and get ahead of them. Weโll then quickly get out and hide."
She looked at the dark surroundings. "We are on a mountain. If we turn off the car lights, it will be pitch black, and hiding will be easy. They wonโt be able to find us."
Madelyn had thought this through during the drive. It was the only way.
"What? You are going to run?"
Hearing that Madelyn wanted to abandon the car and flee, Josiah was so shocked he nearly spit blood.
He was completely against the idea. "I wonโt leave! No matter what, I wonโt leave!"
This car was his prized possession. Naturally, he would never agree to leave it behind.
"If we donโt leave, we are going to die!" Madelyn argued.
However, Josiah wouldnโt budge. "I donโt care. I canโt leave my car."
The car surged forward, and Josiah nearly lost it. "You maniac!"
Madelyn kept her face cold and serious, speeding down the road.
The cars chasing them saw this. One driver shouted, "The car in front is insane!"
One of them warned. "We canโt go any faster. We are already at the limit. If we speed up more, we wonโt be able to control it!"
However, the driver said coldly, "We have to speed up. Do you want Andy to blame us? We wonโt survive if we fail!"
After speaking, he slammed on the accelerator, speeding up to catch up.
Right after he did that, he immediately lost control of the steering wheel!
No matter how he turned it, the tires wouldnโt respond. The car skidded to a halt in the middle of the road.
"Whatโs happening?" he exclaimed, looking flustered.
The car behind them couldnโt brake in time and crashed into them with a loud bang.
Following that, the cars behind collided one after the other like sandwiches, creating a deafening chain of impacts.
There was even a car that completely lost control and soared right off the road.
The thunderous sounds reverberated through the valley, accompanied by the piercing screams of people. The noise was terrifying to hear.
"Someone went off the cliff!" someone shouted.
The rest got out of their cars to check on the situation.
It was utter chaos.
Madelyn seized this moment to escape.
She floored the gas pedal, and the car sped away until she was sure no one was following them.
She then looked around and confirmed it was safe before urging, "Get out!"
She quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Alas, Josiah refused to leave. "No! I canโt abandon my baby! Do you know how much effort it took to assemble this car?"
Madelyn was furious.
This was their chance to escape, but he was hesitating and dilly-dallying. If they were caught, it would be over.
Madelyn was livid. She wanted to punch him but knew Josiah wouldnโt respond to force.
The more she tried to force him, the more rebellious he would be. He wouldnโt listen to her.
She took a deep breath to calm down. "Listen to me. Our lives are the most important now. If you are worried about your car, I promise Iโll get you the best equipment in the world that will be better than what you have now, okay?"
Josiah looked at her skeptically. "Really?"
"Of course. Trust me," Madelyn said in exasperation.
Josiah thought for a moment but still clung to the seatbelt. "No, I wonโt. I painstakingly assembled my car. No matter how good other equipment may be, they canโt compare to it. I am not leaving!"
"You!" Madelyn was so furious she was about to explode.
Why didnโt I realize in my past life that Josiah was so indecisive?
Seeing he wouldnโt budge, she tried to persuade him again. "Just listen to me. Weโll park the car here on the side. They might not hit it, right?"
Josiah seemed unconvinced and cast a doubtful glance at her.
Just then, the sound of engines roared from behind.
Madelynโs heart sank. Sh*t. They are after us!
She panicked and shouted at Josiah, "Theyโre here! Wonโt you run?"
Without waiting, she unbuckled Josiahโs seatbelt, grabbed his hand, and ran.
Caught off guard, Josiah was dragged out of the car.
Luckily, it was dark, and they quickly disappeared into the night.
Soon, the chasing cars arrived.
