Chapter 133 Repay What You Owe Me
Madelyn and Josiah ran until they could no longer hear any noise behind them. They finally stopped, gasping for breath.
โWe should be safe now. Letโs rest for a while,โ Madelyn suggested, finding a rock to sit on.
Clutching his chest and panting heavily, Josiah also sat down.
He looked worriedly at Madelyn. โAre you okay?โ
Madelyn had tripped over a rock and taken a hard fall during their escape.
She clutched her aching knee and shook her head. โI am fine.โ
Josiah sighed in relief, then began to observe their surroundings.
They had been running to evade their pursuers and unknowingly ended up in a desolate area.
The place was full of dried grass, and it was pitch black all around. If it werenโt for Josiahโs phone having a bit of battery left, they wouldnโt even have the faint light they had.
โWhere are we?โ Madelyn asked, looking at the disordered environment. She felt a bit lost.
โHow would I know? We just kept running and ended up here,โ Josiah replied innocently.
It was clear that they were lost.
โWe are in the middle of nowhere. It is pitch black and you are injured. I think we should go back the way we came,โ Josiah suggested, clearly worried about his beloved car.
โNo!โ Madelyn immediately refused. โThey might still be searching for us. Going back now would be like walking into a trap.โ
โButโฆโ Josiah thought about his precious car and their current predicament, feeling extremely frustrated.
He reluctantly said, โOkay then. What do you think we should do?โ
Madelyn was also at a loss, but she knew that going out now was definitely not safe.
With no other choice, she endured the pain in her leg and stood up, glancing around the area.
She suddenly spotted a dark cave. Pointing to it, she said, โLetโs go there.โ
Ten minutes later, they were sitting inside the cave.
Josiah had gathered some dried grass and firewood at the entrance. He then started a fire inside.
Fortunately, the cave was dry and had two rocks that served as seats, giving them a place to settle down.
โSigh, I must have the worst luck to run into you,โ Josiah complained while adding firewood.
Madelyn stuck her tongue out at him, making a playful face.
โSeriously?โ
Josiah rolled his eyes, thinking about how utterly helpless he felt against her.
In the end, he leaned in closer and asked, โWhere are you hurt?โ
Madelyn shook her head again. โI am fine.โ
Josiahโs eyes fell on her scraped and bleeding knee. โYou are really stubborn, arenโt you? Do you think you are a cockroach? Sit still.โ
Hearing this, Madelyn pursed her lips and reluctantly sat down.
Josiah patiently sat next to her and carefully picked out the small stones embedded in her flesh one by one.
โOw!โ
โStop whining, I am being as gentle as I can!โ
Despite grimacing in pain, Madelyn felt a strange warmth seeing his frustrated expression.
Afterward, Josiah tore a piece of cloth from his shirt to bandage her wound.
โThanks,โ Madelyn said, feeling a warm sensation in her heart.
โNo need to thank me. You owe me big time,โ Josiah grumbled.
Madelyn couldnโt help but smile.
Late into the night, Madelyn couldnโt stay awake any longer. She was exhausted.
Even though it was summer, the night was cold, especially in the cave.
Reluctantly, she turned to Josiah for help. โJosiah, it is so cold. Can I have your jacket?โ
โYou really are something, arenโt you?โ
Josiah was furious. โYou dragged me out here in the middle of the night to hide in this lousy cave, my carโs fate is unknown, and now you have the nerve to ask for my jacket?โ
Madelyn cleared her throat awkwardly.
Turning around, she flashed a grin. โYou should act like a gentleman, right?โ
Josiah snorted. โOh, now you remember I am a man? In the middle of the night, you want me to take off my jacket for you? Arenโt you afraid Iโll take advantage of you?โ
โI know you wonโt,โ Madelyn replied with a smile. โYou are not that kind of person.โ
Josiah scoffed. โHah, how do you know? Maybe I am that kind of guy.โ
โNothing. Just give me the jacket, will you? You are a grown man, so stop fussing.โ
In the end, Josiah couldnโt argue with her and took off his jacket.
Satisfied, Madelyn fell into a sweet sleep, planning to head down the mountain at dawn.
Josiah sat beside her, watching her sleep, wondering what kind of mess he had gotten himself into. He was exasperated.
That night, the mountain path was bustling with activity, with echoes reverberating everywhere.
Tristan and the others were calling for Josiah, while Sebastianโs people were searching for Madelyn.
Despite their combined efforts to search all night, they still found no trace of the missing two.
Sebastian stood like a statue by the roadside, his shoulders covered in dew, showing no intention of leaving.
He stared at the cliff below, unable to believe that Madelyn could have fallen down.
He couldnโt believe that she would vanish from his life forever.
Worried, Wesley tried to comfort him. โSebastian, donโt worry too much. That bratโฆ She has a strong will. Sheโll be fine.โ
Sebastian remained silent, standing resolutely.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the mountain, a group of police officers had blocked all exits.
No one could leave, nor did anyone dare to try.
Anyone attempting to leave would be considered a suspect.
At the race course, someone revealed, โDid you hear? There was an incident on the mountain last night, and it is related to the Lockhart family.โ
โWhat? The Lockhart family is involved?โ someone exclaimed.
โYesterday, there was a black limited edition Maybach. Thereโs only one in the world, and it belongs to Mr. Lockhart from the Lockhart family.โ
โOh my goodness!โ
Hearing it was connected to the Lockhart family, everyone was filled with fear and unease.
