Chapter 135 Why Are You So Good To Me
โYes, of course!โ Jillian nodded. She cried so much that her tears had almost dried up, but she finally felt a bit better.
After comforting her, Madelyn released her and looked around.
The entire race course was long since swarming with police. Uniformed officers could be seen everywhere, and the situation appeared pretty serious.
To prevent anyone from escaping, the entire scene was cordoned off by the police with yellow tape, and several individuals stood guard.
Everyone could only mutter quietly in place. No one dared to speak loudly. Each person was afraid of drawing attention, thereby inviting disaster.
Madelyn recalled that she, too, had taken preventative measures when she arrived yesterday.
After some consideration, she first lodged a police report, then called up some friends from the combat training center to be on the safe side.
After all, the southern suburbs were undeniably chaotic. With her limited capabilities, there was no way she could rescue Jillian alone. She had no choice but to find a way to protect herself.
Those friends of hers were quite skilled at combat arts. When Madelyn invited them over, they readily agreed, showing great loyalty.
Unexpectedly, many things happened later on.
In the end, the matter even escalated to such an extent.
โMadelyn, thereโs something I need to tell you,โ Jillian suddenly said.
Madelyn glanced at her. โWhat is it?โ
Jillian lowered her voice and started, โI heard that someone dressed in black came and gave Andy some money last night, upon which he immediately set up a new race. But I canโt shake off the feeling that something was off about that race. How could a new round start before the previous one had even ended? So, I feel that they seemed to have been targeting you.โ
She then asked uneasily, โMadelyn, do you think it couldโve been that youโve offended someone, so that person was willing to pay to have you dead?โ
Upon hearing that, Madelyn couldnโt help but frown. โWhere did you hear all this from?โ
โIโฆ I heard others talking about it,โ Jillian admitted softly.
In reality, she overheard all that gossip while waiting there.
It was uncertain whether it was true, but it was indeed suspicious. Therefore, she found it necessary to inform Madelyn about it.
Madelyn was worried that if Jillian knew too much it could potentially bring her trouble.
Then, she smiled, looking entirely composed. โI had suspected as much. Even before I came here, I knew this was a conspiracy deliberately targeting me.โ
โHuh?โ Jillian was stunned.
Madelyn remained incredibly composed. โSomeone is targeting me. That was why they brought you here. It was to deal with me.โ
Naturally, the person who wanted to deal with her was none other than Janessa.
Madelyn couldnโt help but recall the events of the night beforeโall the cars behind her desperately tried to ram her off the cliff.
Hah! I didnโt expect Janessa to be so ruthless, determined to see me dead!
Upon hearing that, Jillian promptly widened her eyes in disbelief. โMadelyn, why did you still come to rescue me when you knew about the danger?โ
โAre you kidding me? They were targeting me in the first place. That was why they kidnapped you. If I hadnโt come to rescue you and left you here alone, Iโd be plagued with guilt for the rest of my life if anything happened to you,โ Madelyn laughed nonchalantly.
I had made that mistake in my previous life and paid the corresponding price enough. In this lifetime, Iโll never let Janessa have her way again!
Jillianโs nose stung, and she was moved to the point of tears.
โMadelyn, why are you so good to me? My family is poor, and I canโt offer you much help. Instead, I always hold you back. Why would you still choose to come and help me?โ
โHey, please donโt cry, Jillian. Iโm at a loss when you do. You were targeted because of me, so I didnโt act solely for your sake,โ Madelyn coaxed to the best of her ability.
At that moment, Sebastian was beside her. Though his expression remained stoic, and he didnโt utter a single word, he heard the whole conversation.
His brows furrowed slightly.
Has she offended someone she shouldnโt have? Otherwise, why would anyone want her dead? Moreover, her calm demeanor suggests she not only knows who the culprit is but has even grown accustomed to being targeted. In fact, she willingly took a risk despite knowing the dangers.
Following that thought, Sebastian found himself inexplicably irritated.
Why didnโt she tell me when she was in danger? Did she not plan on telling me about it after getting into trouble out there? Or does she feel that I donโt even qualify to protect her?
As he was deep in thought, a man dressed in a crisp police uniform approached. He inclined his head slightly in front of Sebastian. โMr. Lockhart.โ
โHowโs it going?โ Sebastian asked without even raising an eyebrow, his voice cold.
โWeโve already questioned a number of them, but it appears that most of them were just onlookers, havingโฆโ
โUnderstood.โ The police officer nodded, โWe will certainly do our utmost best to investigate the matter.โ
Sebastian gave a slight nod. โThank you.โ
โNo, not at all. Itโs our job,โ the police officer replied politely.
Then, Sebastian turned to Wesley, โWesley, stay here and take care of things. Iโm taking Madelyn to the hospital first.โ
โHuh? Youโre kidding, right?โ Wesley put on an utterly reluctant expression. โMe again? Why is my luck so terrible?โ
Upon hearing that, Sebastian cast him a displeased glance.
At that, Wesley instantly relented, โOkay, okay. I got it. Just take her to the hospital with peace of mind. Iโll handle things here.โ
Despite his words, he was inwardly tormented to the core.
I followed Sebastian as he sped recklessly all the way here, and now, Iโve got to stay to clean up the mess. How frustrating!
โAs for Ms. Lynch, you two escort her home,โ Sebastian instructed the two subordinates by his side.
The two subordinates wouldnโt dare to disobey him. They immediately nodded. โUnderstood.โ
After making all the arrangements, Sebastian cast a cold gaze at Madelyn, then glanced at the car.
Understanding his meaning immediately, Madelyn hobbled over and obediently got into the car.
Subsequently, the car drove off into the distance.
After they had left, the women at the scene finally dared to marvel at Sebastian. โWow! That was Mr. Lockhart? Heโs so handsomeโฆโ
โExactly! Heโs just too handsome!โ They all swooned over him.
โAhem, ahemโฆโ At just that moment, Wesley cleared his throat.
The group of women gave him a onceโover before reluctantly adding, โOh well, this one isnโt too bad either.โ
At the hospital, Madelyn was already lying on a hospital bed twenty minutes later.
Sebastian had the best doctor in the entire hospital conduct a thorough examination for her.
Fortunately, once the examination was done, the doctor said, โApart from her knee having been injured quite severely, thereโs no significant damage elsewhere. You can rest easy now.โ
