Reborn to My Engagement Night Chapter 137 Downright Shameless

No sooner had Sebastian left the ward than a pang of regret hit him. He couldnโ€™t help but feel slightly annoyed at himself, for his words earlier had seemingly been a bit too harsh.

In truth, he had always been a person of great self-restraint. Be it in the face of aggressive clients, friends, or relatives, he was often able to control his emotions well.

No matter how unhappy he was, he could still maintain a polite smile, betraying no flaws.

But for some reason, his self-restraint seemingly failed when it came to Madelyn, having no effect whatsoever.

The thought of how he had spent the entire night worrying about her yesterday was still fresh in his mind. He was terrified that something untoward might have happened to her and even resolved to make sure that the perpetrator also met her end if anything had happened to her.

Unexpectedly, she returned the very next day, intimately sprawled on another manโ€™s back.

Sebastian couldnโ€™t help but feel infuriated.

It felt as if a boulder weighed heavily on his heart, making it difficult to breathe to the point that he might suffocate.

Why? Why couldnโ€™t she stay put for once? Why couldnโ€™t she stay by my side? Why must she always play the field? Even if it wasnโ€™t Christopher, it was someone else. Couldnโ€™t she behave for once and spare me the worry?

The more Sebastian thought about it, the more distressed he felt. In the end, he strode away.

As Madelyn lay on the hospital bed after Sebastian had left, his words earlier replayed incessantly in her mind โ€“ since you desire freedom so much, I will grant it to you as soon as possible.

Suddenly, she bolted upright in bed. She was anxious, like a cat on a hot tin roof, unable to calm down.

Why did things end up like this? Iโ€™d been given a rare chance and reincarnated for no other reason than to win him back and make amends for my mistakes in the previous life, keeping him by my side! How could he possibly want to call off our engagement? No, no way! I canโ€™t allow that to happen! If he were to do that for real, Iโ€™d be utterly devastated.

Following that thought, Madelyn immediately slammed her hand on the emergency button on the wall.

An alarm blared in the nurseโ€™s station, startling several nurses. Immediately, they sent someone to check on the situation.

To the nurseโ€™s surprise, as soon as she entered the ward, she saw Madelyn attempting to yank the IV needle out of her hand forcefully. The sight made her heart jolt, and she rushed over in a panic. โ€œMiss, miss, what are you doing? Calm down. You canโ€™t pull that out!โ€

She fervently shielded Madelynโ€™s hand, in which an IV drip was still attached, preventing her from pulling the needle out.

Alas, Madelyn couldnโ€™t possibly be bothered with all that. While yanking the IV out, she declared loudly, โ€œLet go of me! I want to leave the hospital! I need to leave right now.โ€

However, the blood in the syringe had already started flowing backward. Madelyn remained resolute, saying, โ€œEither you remove it for me, or Iโ€™ll do it myself. Either way, Iโ€™m leaving the hospital now. The choice is yours.โ€

The nurse was very much conflicted upon hearing that. โ€œIโ€™m afraid thatโ€™s not possible, miss. Youโ€™d best wait until your IV drip is finished before leaving.โ€

โ€œGosh, talking to you is like talking to a wall,โ€ Madelyn said helplessly. Then, she again proceeded to remove the needle herself.

Just then, a furious shout came from outside the door. โ€œMadelyn, what are you doing?โ€

The voice was both sharp and loud, strikingly familiar.

At last, Madelyn stilled and looked beyond the door.

The newcomers were Sebastianโ€™s mother, Marsha, Agnes, whose hair was all gray, and Beatrice, who was dressed elegantly.

The furious shout earlier was naturally from Beatrice, for she was the only one who would act so rudely.

Upon seeing them, Madelyn naturally stopped kicking up a fuss. However, she couldnโ€™t help but ask in confusion, โ€œMom, Grandma, Beatrice, what brings you all here?โ€

At that moment, Marsha supported Agnes into the ward. Beatrice followed closely behind, but she said sarcastically at the side, โ€œDo you think we wouldnโ€™t know when the commotion you caused last night was massive, and you embarrassed the Lockhart family completely?โ€

Madelyn paled uncontrollably. But considering the presence of the elders, she had no choice but to rein her temper in and reply calmly, โ€œBeatrice, with Mom and Grandma here, please donโ€™t spout nonsense.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m spouting nonsense?โ€ Beatrice rolled her eyes in displeasure. โ€œThen, ask Aunt Marsha if I wrongly accused you.โ€

Left without a retort, Madelyn could only shift her gaze to Marsha and greet softly, โ€œMom.โ€

โ€œYou still even remember who I am to you?โ€ Marsha scoffed, not mincing her words either. โ€œI thought you had finally settled down. Alas, you created such a huge mess for the family again. I donโ€™t know what to say about you anymore.โ€

โ€œMom, I didnโ€™t.โ€ Condemned by the two of them right off the bat, Madelyn felt utterly at a loss for a convincing explanation.

Fortunately, Agnes spoke up for her at that precise moment. โ€œThatโ€™s enough. Weโ€™re here to visit Madelyn. Besides, you havenโ€™t even heard her side of the story yet. Donโ€™t be so quick to blame her. What if you accused her wrongly?โ€

At her words, a wealth of warmth inexorably suffused Madelyn.

However, supporting Agnes at that moment, Beatrice was seemingly eager to stir up trouble. She deliberately added fuel to the fire at the side, saying, โ€œGrandma, we didnโ€™t accuse her. Her shameful behavior is common knowledge. She had a clandestine meeting with Christopher yesterday and even caused such huge trouble that Sebastian had to search everywhere for her. Sheโ€™s downright shameless.โ€

She immediately turned and looked at her sternly. โ€œMadelyn, was what Beatrice said true?โ€

Madelyn hastily explained, โ€œOf course not. I-โ€

Before she could finish speaking, Beatrice cut her off. โ€œThatโ€™s enough. Thereโ€™s no need to explain anything. Who would believe you? Everyone knows you spent last night with a gangster on the mountain? The next day, it was even he who carried you back. Dare you say thereโ€™s nothing between you two?โ€

Marsha didnโ€™t have any fondness for Madelyn in the first place, so she naturally wore a long face. When she heard that, her expression darkened, and she couldnโ€™t help reprimanding, โ€œYou really have no sense of decency!โ€

Agnes initially had some faith in Madelyn, but she also couldnโ€™t help but admonish her upon hearing that, saying, โ€œMadelyn, you went too far indeed. How would Sebastian hold his head up in public when you did such a thing?โ€

Madelyn knew any explanation she could offer then would be pointless. After all, it was a fact that she spent the night with Josiah.

Thus, she could only lower her head and admit to her mistake. โ€œGrandma, I know I was at fault for the matter yesterday. But I assure you such a situation will not occur again. And it was truly an accident last night. That guy was just a friend of mine. We merely got lost on the mountain. It wasnโ€™t what you all have been assuming. Youโ€™ve all misunderstood.โ€
