Chapter 14: Plotting Her Downfall
Upon hearing her response, both were intoxicated by lust, their breaths growing noticeably more rapid as the rhythm of their movements gained pace. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Thud, thud, thudโฆ The persistent knocking echoed again and again. The person outside was relentless, as if they werenโt going to stop.
Sebastian and Madelyn suddenly came to their senses. After giving each other a look, they separated abruptly, as if they could read each otherโs minds. Then, they each began to calm themselves down. Sebastian quickly recovered, but Madelyn had several buttons on her blouse loosened by him, and her face was flushed a deep red.
Seeing her like this, Sebastian softly said, โStraighten your clothes, then focus on your book.โ After he finished speaking, he took a moment to regulate his breathing. He adjusted his tie, took a deep breath, and finally regained his composure.
Meanwhile, Madelynโs face was etched with dissatisfaction. She was grumbling to herself, wondering which idiot didnโt know better. She and Sebastian had finally gotten a rare opportunity to deepen their bond, but it was abruptly interrupted. What a pity.
After they had freshened up, Sebastian returned to his desk. Madelyn, on the other hand, lowered her head and buried herself in her books. Only then did Sebastian casually respond to the person outside the door. โCome in.โ
Malcolm promptly pushed open the office door and walked in respectfully, holding a document. He nodded at Sebastian and greeted, โMr. Lockhart.โ No sooner had he finished speaking than Malcolm felt a piercing glare directed at him. A shudder ran through his body, as if the gaze was a razor-sharp blade ready to flay him alive.
When he took a closer look, the person glaring at him was none other than Madelyn, sprawled over the desk in the CEOโs office. Malcolm was taken aback, wondering what he had done wrong this time to upset her. Why is she looking at me that way? It sent shivers down his spine. Is she throwing a tantrum again? The mere thought of it made Malcolmโs hair stand on end.
Luckily, Sebastian, with a face as cold as ice, turned to Malcolm at that same moment and asked, โWhatโs the matter?โ Only then did Malcolm breathe a sigh of relief. Holding the documents in his hand, he walked up and handed them to Sebastian. โMr. Lockhart, this proposal has just been issued by the project department. It requires your approval, followed by your signature.โ
Without betraying any emotion, Sebastian subtly nodded his head. โIโll be taking my leave then.โ With that, Malcolm turned and left, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
As soon as Sebastian left, Madelyn once again had her que emotions on display. She eagerly turned her gaze toward Sebastian, hoping that they could continue what they had not been able to finish earlier. However, Sebastianโs face remained impassive. It was so calm that no fluctuations could be detected. It was as if the earlier events had never happened at all. He kept his gaze fixed on the documents in his hand, not once lifting his eyes to look at Madelyn. It was then that Madelyn understood that he clearly didnโt want to continue.
Since Sebastian wasnโt interested, Madelyn had no choice but to let it go. However, she couldnโt help but let out a dissatisfied huff, as if she purposely wanted him to hear it. Nevertheless, Sebastian still showed no reaction, leaving Madelyn with no choice but to bury herself in her books, feeling somewhat disappointed.
At noon, Malcolm came over anxiously to inform them that there was an important meeting to be held. Sebastian glanced at Madelyn, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. โI have a meeting to attend, so I canโt accompany you for lunch. Find something to eat on your own. Donโt let yourself go hungry.โ
After speaking, he turned around and followed Malcolm into the conference room. Madelyn was left perplexed. Whatโs with that attitude? However, she couldnโt really blame Sebastian. After all, in a company, work always took priority.
However, when an idea struck her, Madelynโs eyes suddenly lit up. โSince you canโt accompany me for a meal, how about I buy food back and we eat together?โ What a brilliant idea! Madelyn silently praised herself, then proceeded to descend the stairs alone.
However, who could have predicted that upon entering a nearby restaurant, she would have the misfortune of running into Christopher? He was clad in grey casual attire. Standing nearby, he was looking around as if he was waiting for something. Madelyn couldnโt help but lament, Why am I so unlucky! How did I end up running into him here?
Then, she shielded her face with her hand, leaning on the counter to place her order. After that, she quietly slipped into a seat, patiently waiting for her meal to be prepared and packed. As for Christopher, she believed that as long as she didnโt provoke him, he wouldnโt notice her. She thought that if she could just avoid him, that would be enough.
However, it seemed as if Christopher knew she was there. He looked right at her, and not just that, he even took the initiative to walk over. โMadelyn, itโs a surprise to see you here. What a coincidence. Have you eaten yet? How about I treat you to a meal?โ Christopher said generously. He walked over to Madelyn and naturally took a seat across from her with a gentlemanly expression.
In truth, Christopher was rather refined in appearance. At the very least, he gave off an air of respectability. Otherwise, Madelyn wouldnโt have been so smitten with him in the past under Janessaโs influence. But things were different now. Despite his refined appearance, who knew what sinister plans he was hatching behind the scenes? Madelyn knew that both Christopher and Janessa were the same type of people. On the surface, they seemed harmless to both people and animals, but in reality, they were constantly scheming against her in their minds.
Reflecting on this, Madelyn felt a wave of disgust. She quickly waved her hand. โNo need, thank you.โ
โMadelyn, you donโt need to be so shy with me. Weโve known each other for quite some time now. Itโs just a meal. Itโs the least I can do.โ After Christopher finished speaking, he raised his hand, intending to call the waiter to order food. However, his arm was abruptly stopped.
Madelyn shook her head, her refusal firm. โChristopher, I appreciate your generosity, but thereโs really no need. I donโt have much of an appetite. Iโll be leaving after I pack my food.โ Madelyn did not wish to get close to Christopher, hence her demeanor was as cold as it could possibly be.
Surprisingly, Christopher misunderstood, thinking that Madelyn was giving him the cold shoulder because she was playing hard to get. He figured that Madelyn was under the impression that he had once looked down on her, and now that she had dressed up and looked beautiful, she was putting on airs, expecting him to take the initiative to approach her. Heh, does she think I canโt see through such little schemes?
With these thoughts in mind, Christopher confidently stepped forward, tenderly taking Madelynโs delicate hand in his. โMadelyn, I admit that I did neglect you in the past, and I apologize. But today, all I want is to invite you to a meal. Plus, the weather is pleasant today. Wouldnโt it be wonderful if we could go for a joyride together after we eat?โ
Whatโs so wonderful about that? Iโm not the least bit interested. When Madelynโs hand was held by Christopher, a wave of nausea surged within her.
