Chapter 141 Making Amends
Madelyn was already unwell, and at that moment, she felt a bit dizzy. She had no choice but to rest her forehead on Sebastianโs shoulder, nestling her entire body against him.
Under the warmth of cascading water, two slender figures clung together, presenting an image reminiscent of a couple posing for a provocative photoshoot.
However, Sebastian quickly turned off the water. Reaching out to touch Madelynโs head, he asked in a deep voice, โAre you all right?โ
Madelyn silently nodded, her voice as soft as a whisper. โYes. Iโm fine.โ
However, she still looked incredibly frail, her complexion as pale as a sheet of sketch paper, devoid of any color.
Sebastian looked at her, feeling a pang of heartache.
A few seconds later, Sebastian deftly grabbed a dry towel from the wall, gently wrapping it around Madelynโs drenched body.
Then he stepped out, gently placing her delicate body onto the couch.
โIโll get the hairdryer,โ Sebastian said, noticing her hair was dripping wet.
โNo need,โ Madelyn gently declined.
She had finally managed to gather herself. Seeing Sebastian completely drenched, she couldnโt bear to let him continue to fuss over her.
Hence, she said, โSebastian, stop fussing over me. You should go and take a shower yourself. Donโt catch a cold. Iโll be fine just wiping down with a towel.โ
With that, she casually grabbed a towel and began to dry her hair.
Having just recovered from an illness, her strength was not fully returned. Therefore, she could only dry herself slowly, bit by bit.
After observing for a few seconds, Sebastian finally couldnโt bear it any longer. Assertively, he took the towel from her, stating, โLet me do it.โ
โBut youโฆโ Madelyn noticed that he was drenched from head to toe and thought he was freezing.
However, the comforting intensity from him left her no room to resist.
Sebastian remained silent, patiently drying her hair. His movements were neither too gentle nor too harsh, efficient without causing a mess.
Madelyn felt somewhat flabbergasted in her heart. Wasnโt he still angry with me last night? How come heโs being so nice to me now? Could it be that Sebastian thinks my illness was caused by him? Is his display of gratitude an attempt to compensate me?
With that in mind, Madelyn remained still.
Sebastian blamed himself for everything that had happened. If he hadnโt been so harsh on her the night before, she wouldnโt have fallen ill.
Ever since she was a child, Madelyn had used high-end hair conditioners, which resulted in her hair being incredibly soft, and her tresses being smooth, shiny, and dark.
After a while, Sebastian still ended up fetching a hairdryer. His fingers sifted through her soft strands of hair, gently drying them.
Once her hair was completely dry, he went into the bathroom to take a bath and took the opportunity to change his clothes.
Throughout the day, Madelyn had been subsisting solely on liquid meals. At that moment, as she touched her stomach, she was indeed feeling quite hungry.
So, she casually went downstairs to grab something to eat.
At that moment, Lydia had just finished preparing some oatmeal. Seeing Madelyn finally descend from upstairs, she felt an inexplicable surge of excitement. โMrs. Lockhart, youโve been asleep for a whole day. Thank goodness youโre awake now!โ
Madelynโs complexion was pale, and she couldnโt muster much energy.
With a resigned sigh, she clutched her rumbling stomach and asked, โLydia, do we have anything to eat?โ
Lydia simply nodded in response. โI just made some oatmeal. I was planning to bring it up to you once it cooled down. Iโll go get it now.โ
After a while, Lydia came over carrying a bowl of oatmeal. She carefully set it on the table and advised, โMrs. Lockhart, why donโt you start with some oatmeal to stimulate your appetite?โ
Madelyn didnโt have much of an appetite. She merely nodded, pulled out a chair, and sat down at the table to slowly sip her oatmeal.
Although it was just oatmeal, this particular one was made to be incredibly appetizing. It was laced with berries that gave it a slightly sour yet sweet taste. It was delicious.
In no time, Madelyn had almost finished her meal.
Lydia chuckled from the side, โMrs. Lockhart, slow down your eating. Thereโs still plenty in the pot.โ
Madelyn gave a slight nod.
At that moment, Sebastian came down with the medicine. Recalling his rough treatment of her the previous night, he couldnโt help but feel a pang of guilt.
When he arrived downstairs, he happened to see Madelyn, as innocent as a little lamb, slowly sipping her oatmeal, one mouthful at a time.
Her movements were graceful and slow, evoking both endearment and sympathy.
Sebastianโs grip on the medicine bottle involuntarily tightened.
Subconsciously, she looked up and saw Sebastian.
For a moment, their eyes met.
The air seemed to freeze for a couple of seconds, creating an awkward silence as both of them didnโt know what to say.
A few seconds later, Sebastian feigned a couple of coughs.
โAfter you finish eating, remember to take your medicine. Then, head upstairs to rest early. Make sure to cover yourself with the blanket properly so that you donโt end up with a fever again."
While speaking, he placed the medicine bottle he was holding onto the table.
Upon hearing those words, Madelyn lowered her head and mumbled an acknowledgment. Her docile demeanor was a stark contrast to her usual self.
Sebastianโs thin lips parted slightly as if he wanted to say something, yet oddly, he couldnโt utter a word.
In the end, he had no choice but to turn around and head upstairs.
Watching his retreating figure, Madelyn found herself at a loss for words.
After quietly finishing the oatmeal, she obediently took her medicine and then headed upstairs to sleep.
Perhaps it was the effect of the medicine, but she fell asleep again rather quickly.
When she awoke, it was already the next day.
Madelyn had already made a near-complete recovery. After getting up and freshening up, she went downstairs for breakfast.
Upon descending the stairs, she saw Sebastian sitting at the dining table. The sunlight that fell on his handsome face made him appear even more bright and cheerful.
โCome over for breakfast,โ Sebastian casually suggested.
โArenโt you going to the office?โ Madelyn casually asked during breakfast.
โNo. Iโm not busy.โ
In reality, Sebastian was still concerned about her health and wanted to spend an extra day with her.
Uncontrollably, Madelyn bit her fork, a smile inevitably creeping up the corners of her mouth.
In the afternoon, Jillian rang up, concern lacing his voice. โMadelyn, whatโs been going on with you these past couple of days? I havenโt seen you on campus at all.โ
Madelyn shrugged. โIโm feeling a bit under the weather.โ
Jillian suddenly suggested. โBy the way, Madelyn, the professor has been covering a lot of key points these past few days. How about I bring my notes over to you this afternoon?โ
After some consideration, Madelyn realized she had missed quite a bit by not attending classes for the past couple of days. Thus, she agreed.
In the afternoon, Jillian came over with her notebook in her arms.
In the notebook, Jillian had gone the extra mile to circle all the key points, making it easier for Madelyn to review.
โIt seems like exams are coming up in a few days, right?โ Madelyn asked while studying her notes.
Jillian nodded. โThatโs why you need to review thoroughly.โ
โAll right, thank you, Jillian,โ Madelyn said with a warm smile.
โNo need for formalities. We help each other out,โ Jillian responded with a warm smile.
That afternoon, Madelyn sat on the balcony, diligently reviewing her studies.
