Chapter 143 I Want You Dead
โNo, I was just asking casually,โ Janessa gave a somewhat insincere smile, then seemed somewhat reluctant to leave.
After that, she began purposely shifting the topic, making conversation out of nothing. For instance, she asked, โHave you seen any good movies lately?โ
โIโve been reviewing my lessons every day. When would I have time to watch a movie?โ Madelyn responded truthfully.
โOhโฆ But Iโve always been curious. You used to dislike studying, right? How come youโve suddenly taken such a liking to it?โ Janessa asked.
โThis question is so dull, isnโt it? Isnโt it a given that we should study hard? I certainly donโt want to fail to graduate,โ Madelyn playfully retorted. However, inwardly, she was growing a bit impatient.
So, she gently ushered Janessa out, saying, โAll right, Janessa, if you donโt have anything else, you should go home first. I still have to review my lessons.โ
Janessa wasnโt one to give up that easily. She quickly said, โMadelyn, thereโs no rush to review your homework right now. Besides, itโs been a while since we last ate together. How about we have dinner together tonight? Sebastian happens to be here too, and we should invite him as well.โ
Upon hearing this, Madelyn couldnโt help but scoff inwardly. She had been wanting to ask that question, right?
Madelyn feigned reluctance, saying, โOh? It does seem like itโs been a while since we last ate together. However, Iโve caught a cold, and Sebastian told me to rest and not to go out. What should we do?โ
After she finished speaking, Madelyn deliberately scratched her neck, acting a bit uncomfortable. In doing so, she allowed her clothing to slip slightly off her left shoulder, revealing a prominent red love bite on her neck.
Janessa obviously recognized that as a love bite. In an instant, her gaze was as sharp as an arrow, as if she was about to pierce right through Madelyn.
Madelyn, however, seemed completely oblivious, innocently asking, โJanessa, whatโs wrong?โ
โOh, itโs nothing.โ Janessa abruptly withdrew her gaze. She then struggled to muster a faint smile. โIn that case, Iโll leave first. Take good care of yourself, and when you have time, we can have dinner together.โ
After she finished speaking, Janessa didnโt even wait for Madelynโs response. She swiftly walked out of Lockhart Villa, her demeanor resembling that of someone fleeing in disarray.
After leaving Lockhart Villa, her true nature was immediately revealed. The look in her eyes gradually grew resentful.
At that moment, she was seething inside. Madelyn, you despicable woman! Despicable! I want you dead!
With a cold chuckle, Madelyn pulled her clothes back on and turned to say to Lydia, โLydia, in the future, please donโt let this woman step foot in here again. Sheโs not welcome in our home.โ
Upon hearing that, Lydia replied without a second thought. โUnderstood.โ
The thought alone was enough to rile Lydia up. She had initially intended to report to Madelyn, but to her surprise, Madelyn had preemptively given her instructions. Naturally, this filled Lydiaโs heart with joy. Over the past couple of days, has Janessa been trying to enter our home frequently? The most peculiar part is she keeps prying into Mr. Lockhartโs affairs. This is highly unusual. What does Mr. Lockhartโs situation have to do with her?
Over the past couple of days, Sebastian hadnโt been to the office. Instead, he had Malcolm send over the digital versions of some work materials for him to review. At that moment, he was patiently going through each one in the study upstairs.
Suddenly, his phone started ringing.
Sebastian picked up his phone, noticing a call from Malcolm. He naturally slid to answer.
โMr. Lockhart, weโve completed the investigation into Josiahโs identity,โ Malcolm stated after the call connected.
โOh? Letโs hear it, then.โ Sebastian didnโt even raise an eyebrow.
Malcolm was holding a file on Josiah, and he reported, โJosiah is the youngest master of the Blume family. The patriarch of the Blume family, Felix Blume, was a man of great respect and honor. In his youth, he served as a colonel in the military and had numerous commendable achievements. Under his guidance, every descendant of the Blume family has become a valuable contributor to society. Of course, this doesnโt apply to Josiah. Born into such a privileged environment and being the youngest, heโs naturally showered with love and affection. As a result, his family ends up spoiling him, leading to his rebellious and wild nature. Rumor has it that lately, Felix has been urging him to join the military and serve the country. However, the stubborn child flatly refused, choosing instead to gallivant around town and hardly ever come home.โ
Sebastian, in fact, didnโt pay much attention to these matters. What really intrigued him was why this youngster named Josiah was with Madelyn that day.
Hence, he asked coldly, โDid they know each other before?โ
Malcolm shook his head. โPreviously, Mrs. Lockhart and Josiah had no connection whatsoever. Their encounter at the race course was purely coincidental.โ
Upon hearing these words, Sebastian slightly raised his eyebrows, displaying a hint of seriousness. They didnโt know each other before? However, why do I feel that Josiah and Madelyn are overly familiar with each other? Is their acquaintance as simple as having just met for the first time? Yet, this seems to be all the leads available. I guess Iโll just let it be for now.
Next, Sebastian figured that it was quiet downstairs by then, so he decided to go down. Once he did, as expected, Janessa had already left.
At that moment, Madelyn was seated by the table, chatting with Lydia. Whatever they were discussing had them both laughing heartily. Madelyn, in particular, looked adorable and sweet with her radiant smile.
Suddenly, Madelyn saw Sebastian descending the stairs. Immediately, Lydia greeted him with a smile. โMr. Lockhart, Iโve made some desserts. Please come and have a taste.โ
Upon hearing those words, Sebastian casually made his way over.
Sure enough, there were some red and yellow cream pastries displayed on the table. They actually lookedโฆ
At that moment, Madelyn was behaving just like a little squirrel, nibbling and laughing mischievously.
โSebastian, you have to try these desserts made by Lydia. Theyโre absolutely delicious, you know. Here, have a taste.โ
Sebastian had never been fond of sweets, so he simply shook his head in refusal. โYou guys go ahead and enjoy it. I donโt eat sweets."
Madelyn, however, was not pleased. โOh, come on! Itโs really delicious, not too sweet at all. Just give it a try,โ she insisted.
Sebastian eyed the cream on the cake, clearly hesitating for a moment, seemingly unsure of how to start.
Madelyn was nearly frantic with worry as she watched, unable to help but plead in a coaxing tone, โSebastian, it really is delicious. Lydia put a lot of effort into making it. Please, just try a bite. I promise itโs not too sweet.โ
Seeing her like this, Sebastian found it somewhat unbearable to reject her.
Unexpectedly, he picked up her spoon and scooped up a mouthful.
โHow is it? How is it? Is it good?โ Madelyn eagerly looked at him.
Sebastian savored it carefully, discovering that the cakeโs texture was exceptional. It nearly melted in his mouth, not overly sweet but carrying a hint of refreshing aroma.
Hence, he gave a nonchalant nod. โNot too bad.โ
