Chapter 243 Easily Betray Her
โBesides, youโre so smart, so shouldnโt you have figured it out by now?โ Septimus laughed. โTo be honest, I had people follow you a couple of days ago, but youโre quite impressiveโyou managed to shake off so many of my men.โ
Madelyn snorted coldly. I hadnโt even addressed this issue yet, and this man had the audacity to mention it?
โDonโt worry, though. I have no ill intentions toward you. Investigating your identity was just to put my mind at ease,โ Septimus added with a smile.
โIs that so?โ Madelyn glared at him. โI hope so.โ
In truth, she simply didnโt want to get too entangled with the black market to avoid unnecessary trouble.
However, since they already knew her identity, it wasnโt a big deal, especially considering that this man was currently helping her. Madelyn thought about it and decided not to pursue the matter further.
Her mind fixated on one personโCharlie Quinton.
Madelyn had heard of Quinton Group. Although it wasnโt a large corporation, it was still a prominent name in high society.
Madelyn had no personal grudge against Charlie, but since he had a relationship with Eunice and had dared to provide her with illegal drugs, he had to be punished.
Madelyn narrowed her eyes imperceptibly, silently vowing not to let him off the hook.
She then asked, โDoes Charlie come here often?โ
Septimus thought for a moment and said hesitantly, โHe does come often, but that kid seems to be important to Pigeon. If you want to go after him, it won't be easy.โ
Although Pigeonโs actions were infuriating, he was a highโranking member of the black market with considerable influence. Going after one of his people wouldnโt be simple.
Madelyn, however, was unconcerned. She sneered contemptuously, her eyes resolute. โWhether itโs easy or not is not for you to say. Weโll only know after trying.โ
Anyone who dared to harm her father wouldnโt be spared, no matter how powerful they were.
With that, Madelyn turned and left, her determined demeanor exuding a sense of dominance.
Meanwhile, in the shadows, Sebastian watched as Madelyn emerged from the second floor. His gaze turned dark.
Malcolm had already scoped out the black market earlier. He said, โMr. Lockhart, the young lady just met one of the casinoโs managers.โ
Sebastian remained expressionless.
This young lady had already provoked the Oceanic Empire, so no matter what she did next, he wouldnโt be too surprised.
What was her motive for venturing into the black market?
โMr. Lockhart, do you need someone to follow Mrs. Lockhart?โ Malcolm asked quietly, watching Madelynโs retreating figure.
โNot for now,โ Sebastian said calmly. โFind out about that casino manager and figure out why Madelyn is interacting with him.โ
โYes,โ Malcolm nodded.
Just as he was about to leave, he saw Septimus coming downstairs, followed by several men in black.
This setup made it clear who he was.
Malcolm stepped back and whispered, โMr. Lockhart, that manager should be coming out.โ
Hearing this, Sebastian glanced at Septimus, then his expression turned cold as he strode out.
Everyone in the casino held a high regard for Septimus, hence, as he moved through the crowd, he carried an air of authority.
At that moment, he saw Sebastian approaching with an intimidating presence. Initially, he felt the face was familiar. After a moment, his eyes widened in realization.
โMr. Lockhart?โ
Sebastian walked up to him, his whole demeanor exuding a noble aura, like a king surveying his realm. He looked powerful and terrifying, impossible to ignore.
Septimus was secretly shocked. When he investigated Madelyn earlier, he found out about this man.
Sebastian Lockhart, a business mogul with wealth rivaling nations. At a young age, he controlled his familyโs entire business empire and was a top figure who intimidated countless people.
Septimus considered himself experienced, but in front of this young man, he felt somewhat lost.
โI heard that my fiancรฉe has been visiting you frequently lately,โ Sebastian spoke up, his voice cold.
The voice sounded as if it had been chilled to the bone, sending an involuntary shiver down oneโs spine.
Septimus instinctively lowered his head, his tone respectful. โMr. Lockhart, itโs inconvenient to talk here. Please, follow me.โ
They then headed to the second floor.
Once there, Sebastian wasted no time and went straight to the point. โWhy is she coming to see you?โ
Given Sebastianโs identity and authority, Septimus thought about it and realized that befriending such a big shot could be beneficial.
He candidly explained, โTo be honest, Ms. Thornton came here to investigate a type of illegal drug circulating from our black market. This drug seems very important to herโฆโ
Sebastian frowned upon hearing this. Why didnโt that young lady tell me about something so serious? Doesnโt she realize how dangerous this world is?
He narrowed his eyes at Septimus, deeply suspicious of his motives.
โYou revealed my fiancรฉeโs purpose so easily. Should I assume you could also easily betray her?โ
Septimus was taken aback and quickly explained. โNo way! Mr. Lockhart, you must be joking. I told you everything because youโre Ms. Thorntonโs fiance. Moreover, Iโm helping Ms. Thornton because I admire her.โ
โAdmire?โ
With an expressionless face, Sebastian sneered, โIn what way?โ
Septimus had no choice but to recount how Madelyn met him here and how they started working together, including the gambling and use of the hacker system.
He ended with effusive praise. โRest assured, Mr. Lockhart, I only find Ms. Thornton interesting and clever, so I wanted to befriend her. I have no ill intentions.โ
At this, Malcolm felt like his mind was about to explode.
Is everything this man said true? Why donโt I understand a word? Isnโt Madelyn known for being a goodโforโnothing?
Although she had recently shown a willingness to learn and had a high aptitude for management, in Malcolmโs mind, she was still that unlearned and incompetent young lady.
But the things Septimus said were so ridiculous.
Why does Mrs. Lockhart seem to know everything recently? Did someone replace her in secret?
