The following day, Madelyn had only just woken up when Janessa arrived, bearing fruits and health supplements for her visit.

As soon as she saw Madelyn, Janessa put on a show of concern. “Madelyn, how are you feeling? Are you in pain?”

Inside, Madelyn sneered. She’s quite the convincing actress.

“Don’t worry, I’m not that easy to kill,” Madelyn responded with a half-smile.

Janessa said gently, “I’m relieved to hear that you’re okay.”

Madelyn was rolling her eyes inwardly.

Suddenly, a thought struck Madelyn, and she said with a hint of profound meaning, “Janessa, I’ve always felt that what happened yesterday wasn’t a coincidence. Someone is definitely out to get me. Hmph! If I find out who it is, I'll make sure they pay!”

Once she finished speaking, Madelyn even purposefully raised her fist, putting on a threatening expression.

A tremor ran through Janessa’s heart, prompting an awkward chuckle. “Yeah, it’s unbelievable that someone would want to harm you. It’s just too much,” she said.

“Absolutely! If the person who wronged me was a man, I’d give him a good beating, to the point of breaking his arms and legs, teaching him a lesson. But if it were a woman…” Madelyn paused, her face slightly mischievous as she chuckled slyly. “If it’s a woman, even better. I’ll make sure she’s disfigured, subjected to endless humiliation, and unable to show her face in public ever again. Let’s see who’s more ruthless."

A shiver of guilt immediately ran through Janessa. Is Madelyn serious? Is she really that ruthless?

Watching Sebastian carefully cool down the piping hot oatmeal, spoonful by spoonful, before gently feeding it to her, occasionally urging her to eat slowly, Madelyn felt her happiness was off the charts.

In just a little while, after breakfast, Sebastian headed off to work at the office.

Left with no other choice, Madelyn found herself lying alone in bed, consumed by boredom.

Fortunately, the luxury ward had its perks. Among them was the fact that the drawers were stocked with a variety of reading materials, including novels and comics. Bored, Madelyn simply decided to pick up a book at random.

Before she knew it, she had fallen asleep while reading.

When she woke up again, Josiah and Jillian had already arrived.

“How did it go? Have you found the surveillance footage?” Madelyn immediately asked as soon as she saw the two.

Josiah gave a nod of affirmation. “Don’t worry, we’ve found the surveillance footage. True enough, a portion of it was erased by someone. However, we’ve already gone to the location you mentioned, and the team there has started working on its recovery.”

“That’s good,” Madelyn nodded slightly.

At that moment, Jillian expressed her outrage from the side, saying, “However, who could have possibly done this? It’s so ruthlessly cruel.”

“If I’m not mistaken, Janessa is most likely the one behind this,” Madelyn said.

After a pause, she continued in a calm tone, “Let’s keep this matter between us for now. Only the three of us need to know. The main issue is that I’m currently incapacitated and can’t do anything. What if Janessa sends someone to end me? I wouldn’t even have the strength to fight back, would I?”

“Madelyn is right, Mr. Josiah. We should be more thoughtful and avoid acting rashly,” Jillian calmly advised. Afterward, with a hint of worry, she complained, “However, Janessa is really ruthless! Madelyn, if you hadn’t dodged quickly yesterday, you would’ve…”

Jillian didn’t voice the words that followed, but everyone knew what she wanted to say.

Josiah was even more infuriated. “Where on earth does this woman get the audacity to threaten your life!”

Madelyn suddenly let out a chuckle and sighed helplessly. “Some people are just born malicious, carrying the traits of a villain in their bones. What can one do about it?”

“All right, then.” Josiah had nothing more to say, and he could only urge, “Then you should just rest well in the hospital for this period of time. There’s no need to worry about anything else. Leave the rest to me.”
