Chapter 255 Trust In Him
โThatโs not true!โ
Almost instinctively, Harriet denied it, yet her flushed neck and ears had already completely betrayed her words.
โWhy are you so nervous if thatโs not true?โ Madelyn chuckled lightly. โSebastian might not notice, but weโre both women. I wonโt beat around the bush. Iโve seen through your feelings for Sebastian a long time ago. I just chose not to expose it.โ
The color drained from Harrietโs face, leaving her looking quite distressed.
The secret she had harbored for so many years, one she had never voiced, was then laid bare by Madelyn. In an instant, she felt a rush of embarrassment and irritation.
Given the circumstances, there was no point in pretending anymore. She admitted frankly, โYouโre right. I do have feelings for Sebastian. But what of it? Donโt I have the right to love someone? And let me tell you, itโs been me by Sebastianโs side for all these years, not you. Youโre just a latecomer!โ
Unexpectedly, Harriet decided to put her cards on the table, leaving Madelyn somewhat taken aback for a moment.
However, Madelyn wasnโt one to back down, either. She said, โWhen it comes to matters of the heart, itโs never about who came first or last, Harriet. You need to wake up to reality.โ
Harriet suddenly got angry out of embarrassment. โWhat business is it of yours whether I wake up or not?โ
โHeh! Indeed, itโs none of my business,โ Madelyn scoffed coldly.
Harriet continued in a stern tone, โIn any case, just take care of yourself! After all, Iโve already said what I needed to say. Just remember it.โ
After saying that, she turned around to leave.
Having barely taken a step forward, she suddenly turned back around, flashing an enigmatic smile. โAlso, donโt flatter yourself, Madelyn. Just because Sebastian is willing to be with you, that doesnโt mean he truly likes you. Thereโs so much you donโt know. Weโll see how things unfold!โ
After she finished speaking, Harriet smiled smugly, then turned and left with an air of arrogance.
A sense of unease settled in Madelynโs heart. Why do the words she had just spoken seem to carry an underlying message? Sheโs about to leave the country, yet she came over just to say all that. Was she deliberately trying to sow discord? Is she out of her mind?
With that in mind, Madelyn immediately became extremely upset. Her face, already pale from illness, then took on an even darker shade.
Later on, Sebastian arrived with dinner in tow.
Madelyn looked at him, seeming to want to say something but hesitating. โSebastianโฆโ
โWhatโs wrong?โ Sebastian responded as he simultaneously opened the thermos flask, readying the meal to feed her.
Madelyn watched his movements, feeling a warmth spread through her heart.
And so, the question that was initially filled with doubt was swallowed back down. โItโs nothing. There are just some things I canโt quite understand.โ
Upon hearing this, Sebastian softly responded, โIf you canโt figure it out, then donโt dwell on it. Itโs more important to rest well.โ
As soon as he finished speaking, Sebastian brought over a portion of pasta, interspersed with some clean, green vegetables.
โThis again?โ Madelyn expressed her dissatisfaction as she looked at the few pitiful pieces of vegetables.
Sebastian could only pat her head gently, consoling her, โYouโre injured, so you canโt eat strong-flavored food. Just bear with it for a while. Once youโre healed, you can eat whatever you want.โ
Reluctantly, Madelyn could only nod and say, โAll right, fine.โ
โGood girl.โ Sebastian gazed at her obedient little face, a smile unknowingly tugging at the corner of his lips.
He then proceeded to feed her.
While eating, Madelyn would occasionally glance up at Sebastian.
Even under close scrutiny, Sebastianโs skin held up to the test. His skin was clean and smooth to the point that even his pores were barely visible.
Madelyn could only forget about the matter troubling her. Perhaps Harriet simply canโt stand our close relationship and deliberately said such things.
Regardless of the circumstances, she knew she had to trust him. That was the only way.
After dinner, Sebastian tidied up the bowls and utensils.
Suddenly recalling the surveillance footage from the morning, he sat next to Madelyn and said, โWeโve made some definite progress in identifying the person who set you up.โ
Madelyn had known that all along because Josiah had already gone to tell her during the day.
However, she still feigned curiosity and asked, โWho exactly tried to harm me?โ
Sebastianโs expression visibly tensed. โWe havenโt figured out all the details yet, but we know it was a thug. Heโs already fled, but the police are investigating thoroughly. They should be able to locate him soon, thereโs no need to worry.โ
โOhโฆ Thatโs good, then.โ Madelyn nodded, lost in thought.
However, she had anticipated all of this in her heart.
Naturally, Janessa would not be foolish enough to cut the rope herself when it came to such matters.
If Janessa were truly that foolish, then she wouldnโt have had the capacity to cause her demise in her previous life.
However, this time, Madelyn really had it rough. Although her shoulder wasnโt seriously injured, the pain she had endured over the past couple of days was far from trivial.
Itโs such a significant injustice. Thereโs no way I can let it go easily. The only problem is that Iโm stuck in the hospital, unable to personally deal with that lovelife, Janessa. If only I could be discharged. With these thoughts in mind, Madelyn found herself contemplatingโฆ
After mulling it over, she clung onto Sebastianโs arm and said, โSebastian, I want to go home. Could you help me with the discharge procedures?โ
โNo way.โ Sebastian responded decisively. What is this girl thinking about now? Sheโs so hurt, but she just doesnโt want to stay put!
Madelyn knew that Sebastian was worried about her safety, so she could only coax him playfully, saying, โSebastian, Iโm fine now. Besides, didnโt the doctor say that Iโm not seriously injured? All I need to do is to take care of my shoulder, right? Since itโs all about healing, I can do it anywhere, right? Besides, Iโm more comfortable at home. It might even speed up my recovery, donโt you think?โ
After Madelyn finished speaking, she looked toward Sebastian with anticipation.
If this girl went home, she certainly wouldnโt stay put. If she went out again and got hurt, would she ever recover? It seemed as if Sebastian pondered for a moment, but he still refused, answering, โNo. Thereโs more to it, isnโt there?โ
โGosh! Sebastian, I promise once Iโm home, I wonโt go anywhere else. Canโt I just stay in my room and nurse my wounds? I swear!โ Madelyn said, raising three fingers solemnly as she spoke, her small face serious.
Seeing her like that, Sebastian couldnโt help but feel a bit shaken inside.
In the end, he had no choice but to compromise, reluctantly summoning the doctor. The doctor came over to perform a final check on the injury on her shoulder.
After a brief examination of her shoulder, the doctor said, โMs. Thornton, you have a strong ability to heal. If you donโt feel any significant pain, you can be discharged. However, you must continue to rest at home and should absolutely avoid moving your left shoulder.โ
Upon hearing this, Madelyn broke into a delighted smile. โSee? I told you, didnโt I?โ
Sebastianโs expression darkened, a sense of helplessness washing over him. With no other choice, he agreed to handle her hospital discharge procedures the next day and then take her home.
