“Looks like I still have a lot to learn,” Madelyn admitted, somewhat embarrassed as she lowered her head. She couldn’t deny that she had indeed been thoughtless.
Sebastian’s gaze softened considerably as he comforted her, gently caressing her hair. “Take your time. You’ve just started learning. You will surely improve in the future.”
Madelyn nodded. “Looks like I have no choice but to take this one step at a time.”
The sky was clear the following morning.
After Sebastian and Madelyn got up, they had breakfast together.
The warm light spilled over Sebastian’s neatly-trimmed hair, illuminating his handsome, flawless face. Madelyn’s delicate features were similarly accentuated under the sunlight, her skin immaculately fair.
Lydia watched from the side, her heart filled with joy. They’re such a match made in heaven.
“Sebastian, have an egg,” Madelyn said, peeling a hard-boiled egg and placing it in Sebastian’s bowl. Her stunning face lit up with a smile, charming and captivating.
Sebastian’s lips curled to form a faint smile.
At that moment, his phone on the table suddenly started ringing.
The name “Harriet” danced on the screen, causing a slight change in Sebastian’s expression. Nonetheless, he swiped the screen to answer the call and placed the phone by his ear.
Harriet said something on the other end, and the expression on Sebastian’s face subtly shifted from calm to serious, as if he had heard some earth-shattering news.
“What’s wrong?” Madelyn’s heart sank.
Given Sebastian’s typically composed nature, such a grim expression was rarely seen on his face. Judging by his demeanor, Madelyn surmised something must’ve happened.
Sure enough, Sebastian ended the call in the next second, instructing, “You’ll need to take a taxi to school on your own. Something’s up, and I have to go first.”
“Where are you going?” Madelyn instinctively grabbed him, her face filled with worry as she asked, “Is something wrong?”
Sebastian saw the worried look on her face and, not wanting her to fret, explained briefly, “I just received news from Ms. Moore. There’s been an issue with the company overseas. I need to make a business trip.”
He then comforted her by patting her head, his tone tender as he spoke. “Be good and wait for me at home.”
“But….”
Before Madelyn had the chance to ask further, the towering man hastily strode away.
She lost her appetite, setting down her fork and sitting in her chair, lost in thought. A profound unease settled over her.
Had Sebastian traveled abroad at this time in my past life?
Madelyn had a splitting headache, as she couldn’t remember at all.
She had constantly been avoiding Sebastian in her previous life, so their interactions were few and far between. They might even go days without seeing one another. As a result, Madelyn wasn’t very clear about many aspects of Sebastian’s life.
Regardless, this was the first time she had seen Sebastian so anxious. Something big must’ve happened.
Madelyn’s heart fluttered with worry.
Could someone be planning to set him up this time?
With that thought in mind, she felt her heart sink as though she had missed her footing, feeling inexplicably anxious.
Without hesitation, she immediately pulled out her phone and booked a flight. She also contacted the school to request leave. Then, she quickly ran upstairs to pack, getting ready to follow Sebastian.
She arrived in Rodunst four hours later. Due to the time difference, it was already nearing evening.
Sebastian would almost always stay at the same hotel whenever he visited Rodunst, which was the one they had stayed together during their last trip. Hence, Madelyn quickly located where Sebastian was staying.
However, by the time she arrived at the hotel, Sebastian had completely vanished without a trace.
Not only Sebastian, but even Wesley, Harriet, and Malcolm had all vanished without a trace. When Madelyn tried to reach them by phone, every call was met with the same result–their phones were all switched off.
The hotel’s front desk staff were also clueless about their whereabouts. All they knew was that after Sebastian and the others had checked in, they had driven off and had never returned.
Upon hearing this news, Madelyn involuntarily tightened her grip on her phone, a layer of cold sweat forming on her palm.
What on earth is going on? Why does it seem like they’ve vanished into thin air?
She couldn’t help but feel restless, like a headless chicken, completely clueless about what to do next.
When she was at her wit’s end, a thought popped into her mind. Perhaps there is someone who could lend me a hand!
As that thought struck her, she pulled out her phone right away and dialed a number.
The dial tone kept echoing endlessly, and as she waited for the person on the other end to pick up, she felt like a cat on a hot tin roof, anxious and impatient.
Fortunately, half a minute later, someone finally picked up the phone. A voice, incredibly languid yet pleasing to the ear, asked, “Who is this?”
This voice was extremely familiar and creepy.
Naturally, she knew who this person was. The mere thought of him sent a chill down her spine, but she summoned the courage to speak. “Phantom, it’s me, Madelyn. Do you remember?”
“Oh, it’s you.” Phantom sneered, his voice devilishly charming. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Even through the phone, Madelyn could almost imagine the mischievous smile displayed on his alluring face, which made her skin crawl.
She bit the bullet and forced the words out of her mouth. “I… need your help with something…”
Without any hesitation, Phantom responded, “If it’s about this, you can just seek help from my subordinates.”
“No, you’re the only one who can handle this!” Madelyn’s tone suddenly became urgent.
“Oh?” A hint of a smile played at the corners of Phantom’s mouth. He became intrigued. “Well, why don’t you tell me how I can help!”
Madelyn swallowed nervously, seemingly hesitant to speak.
After some consideration, she mustered her courage and asked, “Phantom, do you have the authority to mobilize Oceanic Empire’s subordinates in Rodunst? I might need your help.”
Phantom didn’t hesitate for a moment and answered decisively, “No.”
Madelyn was at a loss for words.
Phantom holds such a high position in Oceanic Empire. How could he not be able to mobilize his subordinates? Does he not want to help?
Sure enough, the very next second, Phantom burst into laughter and changed his tune, “Of course, it’s not entirely impossible. But before I mobilize my men, you must tell me what you’re up to. Perhaps, I might consider it."
“Really?” Madelyn was instantly overjoyed.
However, she soon hesitated. It doesn’t seem appropriate to tell Phantom about Sebastian’s affairs… But even if I don’t tell him, he’ll probably figure it out.
