“What happened?” Harriet asked.

Sebastian showed her the surveillance footage. Harriet was shocked. “Madelyn’s been kidnapped?”

He nodded slightly, lacking time for explanation. “Ms. Moore, mobilize every member of your Shadow Unit. Find Madelyn's whereabouts within half an hour, or the squad will be disbanded.”

Startled, Harriet agreed. “Yes, Sir.” Yet, unease and confusion filled her heart. Her Shadow Unit seldom saw action; only matters of utmost importance prompted Sebastian to deploy them. His threat to disband the unit showed his desperation. And the cause of this urgency? Madelyn.

Harriet felt dejected. Still, she immediately called a Shadow Unit subordinate. Vice leader Ethan answered quickly. “Hello, Harriet. How can I help?”

“Ethan, Mrs. Lockhart has been kidnapped. Mr. Lockhart demands her location within half an hour, or we face severe consequences.”

“Mrs. Lockhart?” Ethan was incredulous. The Shadow Unit were elites, highly skilled in advanced technologies; locating Madelyn in half an hour wouldn't be a challenge. But mobilizing the entire unit for Mrs. Lockhart seemed excessive.

Even so, Ethan didn't take the matter lightly.

He’d been an orphan, begging on the streets, before joining a local gang. One day, a woman of sheer elegance and aloof demeanor arrived, offering a hundred thousand dollars to assist her.

Ethan remembered that moment vividly; he was captivated by Harriet. After nervously accepting the money, his feelings intensified. He risked his life on her mission, nearly losing an arm. Later, Harriet visited him in the hospital, checking on his condition. He expressed his wish to follow her.

Harriet, recognizing his loyalty and talent, took him in and arranged for him to join the Shadow Unit. He was now her most trusted subordinate. He understood Harriet's feelings for Sebastian.

He’d always known Harriet only had eyes for Sebastian. He held no resentment; in his eyes, only a man of Sebastian's caliber was worthy of her. What saddened him was the unrequited love; anyone could see Sebastian only regarded Harriet as a business partner.

He needed the woman who loved him most to help him find the woman he loved most. How could Harriet be content with this? She, and Ethan, certainly felt hurt. His gaze darkened.

“We’ve found her, Mr. Cooper!” a subordinate exclaimed. They located Madelyn by tracking her phone, pinpointing an abandoned warehouse.

“Should we report this now, Sir?” another subordinate asked.

Ethan fell into deep thought. Since Madelyn was already kidnapped and located, rescue was imminent. He wouldn't object to her enduring a little more trouble. He replied, “No need to rush. Keep checking to avoid mistakes.”

“Yes, Sir.” The subordinate continued the investigation.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the Elite Club was terrifying. Twenty-three minutes had passed with no response from the Shadow Unit. Sebastian’s frustration was evident.

“The Shadow Unit is never this inefficient. How do you explain this, Ms. Moore?” He looked at Harriet.

Harriet’s face drained of color. “I’m sorry. I’ll check with them now!” She made another call.

Wesley couldn’t bear Sebastian’s frantic state. Recalling Madelyn’s kidnapping was partly his fault filled him with guilt.

“I’m sorry. This was all my fault. If only I had—”

Sebastian cut him off. “Enough nonsense. We’ll settle scores once we find her.”

Wesley nodded. “Okay.” He told his subordinates, “Gather more people; get the cars ready.” They obeyed.

Another period of waiting followed. Harriet returned, paler than before. “They said they still haven’t found her.”

The air froze. Sebastian’s fury was barely contained. Harriet, petrified, added, “I’ll keep rushing them.” She remained by the phone.

Malcolm hurried over. “Sir, the police located Mrs. Lockhart. She’s at an abandoned log factory in the suburbs. We can go now!”

Sebastian's gaze turned icy. He commanded, “Let’s go!”

Harriet reported, “They’ve found her, Sebastian. She’s inside an abandoned log factory on the city outskirts.” Sebastian looked at her, his gaze frighteningly somber.
