Chapter 856: I Am Here

“Yes, Sir,” the driver said, slamming his foot on the gas pedal.

Cyrus immediately spotted a rapidly approaching vehicle and cried, “Watch out, Mr. Thornton!”

A wave of shock washed over Derek as he heard the warning. He then saw the vehicle barreling toward him, his eyes widening in alarm.

“Dad, watch out!” A delicate figure appeared, forcefully pushing Derek aside and placing herself in the oncoming car's path.

Screech! The vehicle braked hard, but it was too late. Eunice was thrown back two meters and fell unconscious.

At first, Derek didn't fully comprehend what had happened, but recognizing his youngest daughter on the ground, he exclaimed, “Eunice!”

While Derek rushed to Eunice, Cyrus frantically dialed for emergency services. Meanwhile, Kieran forcefully kicked the driver, bellowing, “Damn it, you were supposed to hit the brakes! Are you going to take responsibility if you killed her?”

The driver's heart raced. Uncertain about who he had hit and facing Kieran's intense reprimand, panic gripped him. With a pained expression, he hurriedly apologized, “I’m so sorry, Mr. Jiminez. It wasn’t intentional! I couldn’t control the speed…”

Kieran delivered a swift slap. “Shut the hell up and get moving! The police will be here soon. Do you want me to end up in jail?”

“All right, Mr. Jiminez, I’ll leave now,” the driver said, nearly in tears, hastily driving off.

“Eunice, are you all right? Don’t scare me like this!” Derek’s voice trembled as he held the unconscious Eunice.

“Mr. Thornton, the driver who caused the accident has fled!” Cyrus exclaimed.

Upon hearing this, Derek urgently commanded, “Find out who the driver is! We must locate that person!”

“Okay!” Cyrus immediately called the police.

Soon after, the ambulance arrived. Eunice was lifted onto a stretcher and rushed to the hospital. Derek held her hand tightly, staying beside her. Despite any past resentment he may have harbored toward his daughter, he couldn’t possibly blame her at that moment. Please, God. Protect her and keep her safe!

Chapter 356: I Am Here

They had just gotten off the roller coaster and rushed to the side, hastily throwing down their plastic bags.

Once they had composed themselves, they laughed heartily before preparing to explore the haunted house.

“Hey, Josiah, do you dare to enter the haunted house?” Madelyn challenged him.

Josiah responded haughtily, his face twisted with disdain. “There’s nothing in this place that can scare me.”

“All right then, let’s go in together,” Madelyn chuckled. “I’ve heard this haunted house is quite scary.”

“Fine, let’s do this! Come on!” Josiah agreed without hesitation.

At that moment, fear was evident on Jillian’s face as she took a few steps back. “M–Maybe I should just stay here. You guys go ahead.”

Tristan wasn’t pleased. “No way. Since we’re all going in, you have to be a sport and join us!” Haunted houses like this were perfect for bringing people closer. Tristan felt that if Jillian chose not to go in, he would miss a golden opportunity to connect with her.

“B–But I’m scared…” The thought made Jillian shudder.

Tristan gently stepped forward, enveloping her in his arms. “Hey, there’s no need to fear when I’m here with you.”

Surprisingly, Jillian didn’t resist. They found themselves naturally wrapped in each other’s embrace. Josiah and Madelyn, watching from behind, stifled their laughter at Tristan and Jillian’s interaction.

Suddenly, Madelyn’s phone rang. She picked up the phone. “Yes, Cyrus?

“Ms. Madelyn, something terrible has happened! Mr. Thornton… I mean something bad has happened to Ms. Eunice!” Cyrus was momentarily speechless, only managing to say, “Anyway, please come to the hospital right now!”

Madelyn was stunned. She turned to the group and said, “I’m sorry, you guys carry on and have fun. I have some urgent matters to attend to and must leave now.”

“What happened?” Josiah asked.

Madelyn sighed. “It’s hard to explain in detail. Let’s talk about it when I get back.”

Madelyn dashed out of the crowd, hailed a cab, and left.

Josiah couldn’t hide his curiosity. “What on earth happened?”

Nevertheless, they continued to enjoy themselves, ignoring their concerns. Shortly after, Madelyn reached the hospital.

Upon rushing into the ward, Madelyn was surprised to find her stepsister, Eunice. She narrowed her eyes. “Dad, I thought Cyrus told me something happened to you? What’s going on?”

Upon noticing Madelyn, Derek sighed, explaining, “Eunice saved me. Earlier at the company’s entrance, I almost got into a car accident. Eunice arrived just in time and took the hit for me, without hesitation. Thank God Eunice is young and healthy; if I had been hit, I’d probably be bedridden for half a month.”

After speaking, Derek gazed at Eunice. “Eunice, I appreciate what you did for me.”

Eunice gently shook her head. “No worries, Dad. You’re my father. It’s what a daughter should do.”

In fact, Eunice was grateful for the mishap. Despite breaking two ribs, she felt it had earned her father’s trust, which she considered a fair trade-off.

Upon witnessing this, Madelyn furrowed her brow. What on earth is she up to? It’s strange that someone who once wished Dad harm would now protect him. There’s something suspicious about this.

Eunice turned to Madelyn with an innocent expression. “Madelyn, you know, I’ve been wanting to say sorry to you for a long time.”

Madelyn stared at her cautiously. “Sorry for?”

“Not only did I let you down, but I also disappointed Dad,” Eunice said, her voice choked with emotion. “Dad, I apologize for all the wrong things I’ve done to you before.”

“I haven’t been home because I needed to reflect. I realized I’ve made countless mistakes. Now, I understand my faults, Dad, sister—can you please forgive me? I promise I’ve truly changed. I don’t want to leave you, Dad,” Eunice continued, tears streaming down her cheeks.
