Chapter 365: Cheated On
“Mom, how did you get here?” Cheryl immediately rushed to Scarlet.
At that moment, a man locked his gaze on Cheryl. “Scarlet, is this woman the daughter you secretly had with another man?”
“What?” Cheryl was astonished.
On the verge of panic, Scarlet hastily explained, “Cheryl, I have no idea who this man is. Please, don’t believe him.”
Scarlet then glared at the man. “Who let this lunatic in? Get out! This is Sherritt Group’s press conference!”
The man’s anger intensified. His face contorted with fury. “Scarlet, you unscrupulous woman!” he spat. “You dare mention Sherritt Group to me? If it weren’t for you, Moanal Corporation wouldn’t have collapsed! Now that you’re living well, you want to erase your past? Think again! Come with me, and don’t even try to shake me off!”
After speaking, the man lunged forward, grabbing Scarlet’s arm. Scarlet screamed, “Ah, don’t touch me!”
“Who are you? Let go of my mom!” Cheryl intervened, struggling with the man.
Onlookers watched with disapproval. Moana Corporation, the man mentioned, had once been a leading business, but its downfall remained unexplained. His accusations were shocking.
Rupert noticed the commotion and hurried over. “What’s going on? Scarlet, did you come here to make a fool of yourself?” he demanded, exasperated. His wife was disrupting a crucial event!
“I–I’m not, Rupert,” Scarlet clarified.
The man turned to Rupert. “You’re Rupert Sherritt, right? You’re a coward! Don’t think you’re special just because you married Scarlet. She’s been cheating on you for years!”
Rupert flew into a rage. “Stop your nonsense!”
The media, initially covering the press conference, immediately switched to this unfolding drama. Online viewership skyrocketed. The audience found the situation incredibly entertaining.
Rupert, enraged, slapped Scarlet. “You shameless bitch!” he roared. Betrayal was something he despised above all else. He showed no leniency to betrayers, family or employees. This public incident meant the entire internet knew he'd been cuckolded. He choked with fury, wishing to strangle Scarlet.
“No, Rupert, you’re wrong! I don’t know this man!” Scarlet insisted.
However, the situation only worsened with attempts to cover it up. Onlookers whispered accusations, believing Scarlet was trying to hide her wrongdoing.
Rupert remained unmoved. “You know how much I hate betrayal! Scarlet, we’re getting a divorce!”
Scarlet stiffened, then pleaded, “No, please! Rupert, believe me. I’ve never been unfaithful. This man is lying! After all these years, how could I betray you?”
Rupert, enraged, refused to listen. He announced to the media, “Today’s press conference is over!” and stormed away. Scarlet and Cheryl followed.
Meanwhile, at Lockhart Group, Sebastian was about to attend the press conference when Malcolm arrived.
Malcolm showed Sebastian the live broadcast. Sebastian’s eyebrows furrowed. His expression showed clear displeasure.
Madelyn, having just finished class, saw the headline: “CEO of Sherritt Group Cheated On, Humiliated!”
“What is this?” she murmured, watching the video. The press conference had morphed into a family drama, overshadowing the intended collaboration.
The internet exploded with negative comments about Scarlet. Sherritt Group’s shares plummeted. The incident caused a significant negative impact.
Madelyn, initially uninterested in such family matters, realized this directly affected the Lockhart-Sherritt collaboration. She fell into deep thought.
The video showed the man insisting on a sordid past with Scarlet, completely destroying her image. Yet, Scarlet appeared genuinely baffled, not showing the usual panic or evasion of someone guilty.
Madelyn frowned. If the man knew Scarlet and shared her history, why remain silent for years, only to accuse her now? And if Scarlet had done something wrong, her reaction would be different. Scarlet's confusion seemed genuine. Could it be that this man was sabotaging something? There seemed something suspicious afoot.
