Listen to this chapter:

Feeling as though a thorn had pierced her heart, Madelyn laughed bitterly. "Sebastian doesn't even want to see me anymore, huhโ€ฆ"

However, upon further thought, Madelyn comforted herself. "It's okay. These are just things I should bear!"

And so, Madelyn didn't insist on going in anymore. Instead, she walked over to the side of the club and squatted down next to a roadside utility pole. She reassured herself that it was okay. Since Sebastian didn't wish to see her, she decided to wait for him right here. He was certain to come out from here sooner or later.

Unexpectedly, what was supposed to be a short wait turned into several hours. As Wesley continued to play, he became utterly absorbed, completely forgetting about Madelyn. Sebastian, on the other hand, was quietly sitting in a corner, sipping his drink, while idly watching their tomfoolery.

Time seemed to fly by, and before they knew it, it was already two in the morning. Madelyn spent some time standing outside, then squatting, until her legs went numb. In the end, she could only lean helplessly against the utility pole.

Inside the club, a few severely intoxicated individuals occasionally stumbled out. Madelyn scrutinized each one, but none of them were the person she was looking for. As the night deepened, the streets grew increasingly deserted.

The streetlights were becoming increasingly sparse. Aside from the twenty-four-hour convenience store and KFC, most of the shops had already closed for the night. The evening breeze blew, carrying with it waves of chill that seemed to seep into oneโ€™s bones. For some unknown reason, Madelyn felt an overwhelming sense of loss.

Just then, the manager emerged, only to find Madelyn still waiting there. He sighed, feigning ignorance, and retreated inside.

At that moment, a large group of people suddenly emerged from the club. At first glance, they were all young men and women, seemingly having the time of their lives. Each of their faces was flushed with excitement, and their laughter radiated pure joy. Madelyn remained curious, her eyes scanning through the crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of Sebastian.

Madelyn wanted to hide from him, but Christopherโ€™s gaze shifted, and he caught her squarely.

"Madelyn!"

He quickly strode after her. Before Madelyn could evade, he had already seized her wrist in a firm grip.

"And here I thought you were playing hard to get. Turns out you couldn't help yourself and came to see me so soon, huh?" Christopher said smugly. In the afternoon, he had thought that Madelyn no longer cared for him. Yet, in no time at all, she couldnโ€™t resist seeking him out again. Women are truly despicable indeed.

Unexpectedly at that moment, Madelyn forcefully pulled her hand away, letting out a cold chuckle. "Christopher, youโ€™re really full of yourself. But what a shame, I'm not here looking for you."

Sheโ€™s not here for me? How is that possible?

Christopher had already had a bit to drink, and hearing these words, he instantly felt irritated. "Then who are you looking for?"

Madelyn didn't want to entertain him, so she responded, "It's none of your business. Just know that Iโ€™m not looking for you."

These words successfully infuriated Christopher. What he found most intolerable was Madelynโ€™s coy and elusive manner. She's clearly trying her hardest to catch my attention, yet she insists on pretending otherwise!

"Madelyn, stop pretending! Youโ€™ve been trying so hard, using every trick in the book to get my attention. Isnโ€™t it just because you want me to sleep with you? Why pretend to be reserved? Since you have this desire, Iโ€™ll satisfy you tonight!" Christopher said harshly.

Madelyn felt a wave of nausea. Did I say I want to sleep with him?

However, before Madelyn had a chance to react, she was suddenly slapped harshly by someone. Immediately following, an angry voice rang out. "Madelyn, you really have no shame! You strut about as Sebastianโ€™s fiancรฉe, yet you have the audacity to flirt with other men here. Is there any shred of decency left in you?"

With that one slap, everyone was left in shock. Madelyn was taken aback. She turned around to see who had come. To her surprise, it was Beatrice Lockhart, the cousin of Sebastian.

Earlier, Beatrice had just stepped out when she spotted her cousin-in-law in an intimate exchange with another man, which instantly filled her with rage. But then again, Madelyn is notoriously known for her willful and obstinate behavior. Beatrice just hit her. Nothing good will come out of it. It seems that a fight is inevitable.

Everyone waited for Madelynโ€™s counterattack, but nothing happened. In the past, Madelyn would have immediately retaliated after being slapped. However, this time, she surprisingly held it in, even though she was unhappy.

One reason was that Beatrice had misunderstood. Secondly, Madelyn didn't want to stir up trouble here. Swallowing her pride, she patiently clarified, "Beatrice, youโ€™ve misunderstood. Iโ€™m not here for Christopher. Iโ€™m here for Sebastian."

Unfortunately, Beatrice didnโ€™t believe it at all. With a haughty tilt of her chin, she said disdainfully, "Madelyn, you think Iโ€™ll believe your lies just because youโ€™re not fighting back? I know that from the beginning, there hasnโ€™t been a moment of peace in your heart! Just a while ago, my family was telling me that youโ€™ve truly changed, but look, youโ€™re still the same. Madelyn, arenโ€™t you embarrassed to be seen flirting with other men? Donโ€™t you feel guilty toward Sebastian? He has been so good to you, and this is how you repay him? If this is your idea of remorse, then itโ€™s truly laughable!"

After her outburst, she added, "I just canโ€™t fathom how a woman as promiscuous as you could ever be worthy of Sebastian."

Despite enduring whatever Beatrice had said before, Madelyn found herself unable to hold back upon hearing the last sentence. Madelyn admitted that, in her past life, she had confessed her love for Christopher every single day. However, Christopher had never returned her feelings. Their relationship had remained so pure that they hadnโ€™t even brushed fingertips.

Furthermore, during that time, she had only acquired the unfortunate reputation of promiscuity as a means to distance herself from Sebastian. Nevertheless, Madelyn had only ever been with one man, Sebastian. Therefore, she utterly refused to accept the tainted image that Beatrice had unfairly imposed on her.

Her expression turned cold. There was a hint of anger in her voice as she retorted, "Beatrice, who are you calling promiscuous?"
