Chapter 61 Derek Favors Her

With such a living, breathing person lying next to her, how could Madelyn possibly fall asleep?

In the quiet room, Madelyn's eyes were wide open, showing no signs of sleepiness.

Having had a few drinks, Sebastian fell into a deep sleep. It wasn't long before Madelyn could hear his soft, steady breathing.

As dawn broke, Madelyn finally succumbed to a hazy slumber. She had barely slept for two hours when the sound of knocking echoed from outside the door.

Madelyn despised being disturbed during her sleep. Given her light sleeping habits, the moment the door was knocked, her eyes shot open immediately.

She was seething with suppressed anger, yet before she could let it out, she heard Euniceโ€™s voice from outside the door.

โ€œMadelyn, itโ€™s time to wake up and have breakfast. Todayโ€™s breakfast is quite a feast.โ€ Her voice was as soft as a marshmallow. Madelyn couldnโ€™t help but feel a surge of irritation. She was deeply convinced that Eunice was out of her mind.

What is she on about so early in the morning? She's never been this attentive before.

At that moment, Eunice continued, โ€œSebastian, wake up. Letโ€™s have breakfast together. Mom and Dad are waiting for you downstairs.โ€

Sebastian awoke at the sound and furrowed his brows. He had also stayed up late the previous night, and coupled with the effects of alcohol, he was now waking up with a noticeable headache.

Madelyn was visibly displeased. Sheโ€™s so annoying.

Despite that, the two of them still got up and freshened up.

As she was changing her clothes, Madelyn let out a soft gasp due to the inconvenience of her arm.

Sebastian turned to look at her, noticing her clutching her arm and wincing in pain. She was halfway through putting on her clothes.

โ€œLet me help you.โ€

Madelyn stepped back. โ€œNo, thank you.โ€

โ€œThen do you expect someone outside to help you?โ€ Sebastian said coldly.

It was Eunice outside the door. Madelyn, of course, wasnโ€™t pleased.

During the process, his hand accidentally brushed against her body, triggering a wave of tingling sensation. Madelynโ€™s face flushed a deep shade of red.

Sebastian, however, reacted as if nothing had happened, dutifully helping her get dressed.

Then, in a nonchalant manner, he said, โ€œAll right, letโ€™s head downstairs.โ€

Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Madelyn gave a slight nod and then descended the stairs with him.

Upon descending the stairs, she found Derek, Regina, and Eunice already seated around the table.

A hearty breakfast was already prepared on the table.

โ€œCome down and have something to eat,โ€ Derek said amiably.

Madelyn walked over with Sebastian.

Eunice, who was nearby, looked at them intently. A flicker of jealousy flashed in her eyes when she saw them walk side by side.

She had always believed that Sebastian was an exceptionally remarkable man. In every aspect โ€“ be it appearance, family background, character, or abilities โ€“ he was so flawless that criticism found no foothold.

Madelyn, on the other hand, was wild and crazy. How could she ever be a match for Sebastian?

Eunice was filled with resentment. Why didnโ€™t Dad arrange for me to marry Sebastian in the past? Iโ€™m clearly smarter and more sensible than Madelyn. Hmph, Dad is just too biased!

Fortunately, Eunice had heard that Madelyn was fond of Christopher, which was why her relationship with Sebastian wasnโ€™t great.

She felt much more at ease. If Madelyn keeps this up, perhaps Iโ€™ll have a chance.

Euniceโ€™s spirits lifted considerably. She said warmly, โ€œMadelyn, Sebastian, come sit over here.โ€

Regina, fully cognizant of Euniceโ€™s feelings, greeted Sebastian with an exceptionally cordial demeanor upon seeing him.

โ€œSebastian, come have breakfast with us. I specifically asked the cook to prepare all these dishes.โ€

She sounded as if she were treating Sebastian as her own son.

Observing all this, Madelyn couldnโ€™t be bothered to respond. What a hypocrite. Theyโ€™re just trying to curry favor with him.

She took her seat.

Sebastian cast a somewhat puzzled glance at her, and so did everyone else.

With so many eyes on her, Eunice immediately became a bit flustered. โ€œOh, itโ€™sโ€ฆ itโ€™s nothing really. I just wanted to say that my sister is quite mischievous. She always seems to stir up trouble at home. In the past, she often gave Mom and Dad headaches. So, I hope that you can keep a closer eye on her in the future.โ€

Sebastian hesitated for a moment. He didnโ€™t say anything and just gave a nonchalant nod.

Madelyn was visibly upset. โ€œEunice, watch your words. When have I ever been a troublemaker? You really canโ€™t keep your mouth shut even when youโ€™re eating.โ€

Regina said with displeasure, โ€œMadelyn, how could you speak about Eunice like that? Sheโ€™s your sister. Whatever she says, itโ€™s all for your own good.โ€

โ€œExactlyโ€ฆโ€ Eunice said, her face full of grievance.

Madelyn gave an indifferent smile. โ€œThank you, but I donโ€™t need it.โ€

โ€œWhy are you so stubborn?โ€ Regina was infuriated. Indeed, a child without a mother truly lacks manners.

โ€œEnough from all of you!โ€ Suddenly, Derek erupted in anger. โ€œSebastian is still here. Canโ€™t we just have a peaceful meal?โ€

Everyone fell silent despite the reluctance in their hearts.

Derek turned to Sebastian and said, โ€œSebastian, Iโ€™m sorry that you have to witness all that. I hope you donโ€™t mind.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s all right,โ€ Sebastian responded nonchalantly. โ€œWeโ€™re all family here, so I donโ€™t mind. But I know Madelynโ€™s personality better than anyone else. Since Iโ€™ve married her, I promise to take good care of her. I hope both of you can rest assured.โ€

These words were spoken with considerable calm and sincerity.

Madelynโ€™s heart swelled with emotion, and the lingering resentment she had harbored was nearly washed away.

Derek was greatly comforted. โ€œMaddie is lucky to have met a husband like you.โ€

Sebastian merely flashed a smile and remained silent.

At that moment, Madelyn suddenly said in a playful and cheerful tone, โ€œDad, youโ€™re lucky too to have a daughter like me. You should be content!โ€

Derek couldnโ€™t help but pinch her cheek. โ€œYou little rascal, you really have some nerve. If you could just give me some peace of mind, Iโ€™d consider myself very lucky.โ€

โ€œOuch, it hurtsโ€ฆโ€ Madelyn cried out in pain.

Despite everything, Derek felt a surge of happiness within him. He wasnโ€™t sure why, but his daughterโ€™s return this time seemed to have brought them much closer than before.

Upon witnessing the scene, Regina and Eunice paled slightly with frustration.

Whatโ€™s so good about her that Derek favors her?

What a b*tch!
