Listen to this chapter:

With tears streaming down her face, Kayla looked up at Myra, pleading, "Mom, I was misled; I acted out of confusion. Please forgive me. I promise I'll never do it again. Mom, please, I'm begging you."

Her claim of being misled was a transparent attempt to shift blame. Talia, however, was having none of it. "Kayla," she snapped, "who misled you? You came to me, wanting to team up against Felicia! You asked me to help steal Grandpa's poison! I only involved Roberta because of you!

"And now that it's all backfired, you're trying to blame me? You're shameless. I can't believe I ever partnered with you!"

Talia's anger escalated with each word. Just before they led her away, she delivered a final defiant kick to Kayla. "You're the mastermind, and I'm the accomplice. If I go down, you're going down with me! You won't get off easy!"

When Felicia exposed their crimes, Kayla retreated, hoping to disappear while Talia took the fall. That was a futile dream; Talia preferred exposing everything rather than letting Kayla escape. No one would get away with this.

Soon, Talia was taken away, facing charges of murder, confinement, and human trafficking. Kayla remained alone. Everyone perceived her as sweet and innocent, but the recording revealed a venomous arrogance. Beneath her charming facade lay a chilling coldness; her words about wanting Felicia dead sent shivers down everyone's spines.

Myra closed her eyes, then released Kayla's hands. "From now on," she said heavily, "don't ever return to the Fuller family. We don't have a daughter like you."

"Mom! Are you abandoning me?" Kayla cried, her sobs wrenching.

Myra's eyes welled, and she turned away.

"Sebastian, please help me! We grew up together; I'm your sisterโ€ฆ"

As Myra's resolve hardened, Kayla grasped Sebastian's hand, pleading desperately. Her eyes mirrored her despair. Sebastian, recovering from his shock, frowned but remained firm. "Kayla, what you did is unforgivable!"

Was this a death sentence?

Kayla cried out to Clive, "Grandpa, you love me most, right? I'll change, I promise. Please don't let Mom abandon me."

Clive scoffed, brushing his sleeves aside. He'd had enough. He'd dealt with Talia and dismissed Noah's family; Kayla was Myra's problem.

As Clive left, Jake's family quietly slipped away. Myra felt utterly drained, aged ten years in an instant. Taking Sebastian's arm, she whispered, "Sebastian, take me home. I'm so tired." Sebastian supported her. He'd intended to take Felicia, but she shook her head, choosing to remain.

He helped Myra leave, while Kayla repeatedly tried to follow, only to be pushed back.

"Felicia, are you happy now? Is this what you wanted?"

Alone, Kayla dropped her pretense, glaring at Felicia with hatred and resentment, wishing to tear her apart. Felicia replied coolly, "What's the matter? You can hurt me, but I can't fight back? The world doesn't work that way."

The gloves were off.
