Listen to this chapter:

By the time Kayla returned to the Fuller residence, it was midnight. Myra and Dexter were asleep, but Kayla deliberately made a commotion, waking them. Dexter stumbled from his bedroom, yawning and rubbing his eyes. "What's the matter, sweetie? Who upset you this time?"

"It's the driver, Ruben!" Kayla pouted, her tone aggrieved. "After shopping, he didn't pick me up! His phone was off, and I had to take an Uber home!"

"What? He didn't pick you up?" Dexter's irritation flared. "He'll be fired the moment he shows up! That's unacceptable!"

Kayla nodded emphatically. "Exactly, Dad. Irresponsible drivers deserve to be fired. It'll teach the others a lesson!"

"Yes, you're right," Dexter said, smiling fondly. "Now, it's late. Go to bed, sweetie."

Relief washed over Kayla. She had successfully distanced herself from Ruben's absence. No one would connect it to her, even if his disappearance was noticed.

Humming lightly, Kayla started toward the stairs, her steps lighter. Then she froze.

Felicia stood on the second floor, leaning casually against the railing. Her gaze was calm, yet piercing.

Kayla's heart skipped a beat. Quickly regaining her composure, she smiled sweetly. "Oh, you're still awake, Felicia? Sorry if I woke you."

Felicia tilted her head, sniffing the air. "You smell of alcohol. What have you been up to?"

Kayla stiffened. Dexter's gaze shifted to Kayla, his expression suspicious. "Now that you mention it, she does smell like alcohol. Kayla, you weren't drinking, were you? You know we don't allow that."

Kayla waved her hands in denial. "Of course not, Dad! It must've been the cabโ€”the previous passenger probably spilled something. It was awful!"

Dexter frowned but nodded. "Alright. Go wash up and get some sleep."

"Goodnight, Dad!" Kayla chirped, ascending the stairs.

"Goodnight," Dexter said, turning to Felicia. "You too, Licia. Don't stay up too late."

Felicia's eyes briefly met Kayla's. Kayla's gaze held a hint of defiance. Felicia simply smiled faintly and walked away.

Back in her room, Felicia unlocked her phone and opened the two video files Lance had sent. Even after everything, the footage stunned her. Kayla's ruthlessness was staggering. She killed without hesitation or remorse, then seamlessly played the victim. Kayla wasn't just ruthless; she was devoid of reverence for life.

Felicia rubbed her temples, frustrated. If she had seen Lance's calls sooner, she might have saved Ruben and caught Kayla red-handed. Still, the evidence was damning.

If she confronted Kayla privately, Myra and Dexter would protect their daughter. They would make excuses, erase traces, and ensure Kayla escaped consequence.

No, that wouldn't do.

Felicia's lips curled into a cold smile. Kayla's birthday was coming upโ€”a grand celebration with Khogend's elite. With so many guests, Myra and Dexter couldn't stop people from seeing or talking.

Felicia couldn't expose Kayla directly. The accusation would be dismissed as jealousy or revenge.
