Listen to this chapter:

The black swan necklace lay abandoned. Sebastian felt a pang in his chest as he stared at it; a sudden, inexplicable premonition washed over himโ€”Felicia wasn't coming back. She had left the house and everything in it behind.

At the airport, a private jet smoothly taxied to a halt. A tall figure, Stephan, descended with an air of authority. He had returned from a whirlwind business trip, cutting his schedule short. Sliding into a waiting black sedan, he gave his driver a terse command: "What's Felicia been up to the past couple of days?" He had left Khogend in a rush, preoccupied with pressing matters, yet Felicia lingered in his thoughts. Two days away, and he feared losing her again.

His subordinate, accustomed to Stephan's unusual interest in Felicia, replied promptly: "Mr. Russell, today is Ms. Felicia's birthday. The Fuller family hosted a party at their residence. It started lively, butโ€ฆ"

"But what?" Stephan's voice dropped, cold and sharp.

"One of the Fuller family's drivers recently passed away, and Kayla was accused of involvement. She was taken away by the authorities."

Stephan's brows furrowed. "And what does that have to do with Felicia?"

The subordinate swallowed nervously. "Ms. Felicia provided the evidence against Ms. Kayla. When Mr. and Mrs. Fuller discovered this, theyโ€ฆ they struck her and expelled her from the house." A deathly silence fell between them, the tension palpable.

Then, a low, cold chuckle broke the silence, mocking and menacing. "They hit her?" Stephan's voice was dangerously soft, laced with a fury that chilled the driver.

"To the Fuller residence. Now."

The driver obeyed. The car executed a sharp U-turn.

Upon arrival, Stephan found Felicia gone. "Find her," he ordered, his voice icy. "I want to know where she is." His gaze lingered on the Fuller residence, his expression dark. For a moment, it seemed he might order its demolition; the driver, sensing his mood, was relieved Stephan's anger was tempered by his concern for Felicia.

Inside, chaos reigned. Myra had fainted from emotional strain; the family doctor assured them she needed rest. Only then did Dexter and Sebastian breathe.

Dexter, weary, stepped from Myra's bedroom. Even unconscious, she clung to his hand, murmuring about saving Kayla. Kayla wasn't their biological daughter, but she had been their world for many years. They had spoiled her, adored her, and given her everything. To them, she was their daughter. Now, she was accused of a heinous crime. Dexter's anger and disappointment were real, but so was his unwillingness to see her life destroyed.

Resolving to act, Dexter sought out Mina. He spoke gently, his tone filled with regret and sincerity. "Mina, I can't apologize enough. My family failed you and your husband, and I'll never forgive myself. But life must go on. Let's talk this through."

Mina's expression remained icy. "I don't want your money, Mr. Fuller. I want my husband back. Can you give me that?"

Dexter pressed on, "What about a million dollars? Five million? Tenโ€ฆ Twenty!"

The coldness in Mina's eyes flickered. The numbers were dizzying, her resolve wavering. Dexter pressed harder, "I'll give you fifty million if you'll sign the Letter of Understanding."
