On the day Felicia was taken, Myra hadn't witnessed the event at the mountain's foot. Clive's death had since consumed her attention. Therefore, the person outside claiming to be Felicia's friend and demanding to see the Fullers could only be Carmen.
A faint glimmer of mockery flickered in Kayla's eyes as she said, feigning nonchalance, "Grandpa's passing is such a significant event, yet my sister hasn't appeared? Instead, she sends her friend to create a scene? How inconsiderate."
Myra's expression hardened, her hands clenching. Felicia's words from their mountaintop confrontation, when she severed ties with her family, echoed in her mind. What an ungrateful wretch.
Glaring at a servant, Myra snapped, "Dismiss her. Ensure she leaves and doesn't disturb the family."
"Yes, Mrs. Fuller."
The maid began to obey, but Carmen refused to leave. She struggled against the guards and maids, desperately attempting to enter. Ultimately, she was ejected, pushed through the gates and onto the ground.
Standing outside the imposing estate walls, Carmen screamed, her voice raw with anger and desperation. "Mr. Fuller! Mrs. Fuller! I'm Felicia's friend! She's been kidnappedโshe's been missing for three days!"
Her cries echoed, but the thick walls muffled the sound, preventing it from reaching anyone inside. Carmen's voice grew hoarse, her throat raw.
Finally, the gates opened. Hope flickered in her eyes, only to be extinguished when Kayla emerged instead of the Fullers. The disappointment was crushing.
Kayla had, of course, heard Carmen's shouting, particularly the claim that Felicia had been kidnapped and was missing for three days. Three days without a trace. The likelihood of Felicia's survival seemed negligible.
Kayla's heart swelled with satisfaction. Whoever had taken Felicia had performed her a great service, removing a significant obstacle. Smiling faintly, Kayla said, "My mother won't see you. If you have something to say, tell me, and I'll relay it."
Carmen glared at Kayla, her voice cold. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
Feigning innocence, Kayla blinked. "I don't know what you mean."
"There isn't a decent person among the Fullers!" Carmen spat, turning to leave. If no one else would save Felicia, she would have to do it herself.
After Carmen's departure, Kayla concealed her triumphant smirk and returned to Myra's side.
"Mother, the person outside was indeed my sister's friend," she said, her voice soft and tinged with pity. "It's the same woman you saw on the mountaintop. Her name is Carmen, and I've heard she's involved inโฆ questionable activities. I truly don't understand why my sister associates with such people."
She sighed, shaking her head as if pained by the thought. Myra's face darkened further. Her initial poor impression of Carmen, formed at their mountain encounter, was reinforced by Kayla's comments.
"What did she wish to discuss with me and your father?" Myra asked sharply.
"Wellโฆ" Kayla hesitated, feigning difficulty.
"Speak," Myra demanded, her tone icy.
Kayla carefully omitted most of Carmen's message, finally settling on a single line. "She saidโฆ no one in the Fuller family is decentโฆ"
