Listen to this chapter:

As Felicia's plane vanished into the horizon, Abbie stood frozen, her fists clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. Her disfigured face contorted with rage, making her appear even more terrifying. She was stunned by Maurice's nonchalant reaction to Felicia's departure.

Grinding her teeth, Abbie stormed after Maurice, desperate and furious. "Mr. Glovers!" she called, her voice trembling with anger. "She injected you with that venomous creature! This is serious! Are you simply going to let it go?"

Maurice paused, then turned, his expression eerily calm, his lips curled in a faint, almost disarming smile. "What do you think I should do?" he asked mildly, almost playfully.

His calmness momentarily disoriented Abbie, but her bitterness persisted. Fueled by frustration, she blurted, "Bring her back! Force her to remove the creature, and then kill her!" Maurice's smile widened slightly, as if amused. "Well, you certainly seem concerned for my well-being."

"Of course, I am!" Abbie forced a smile, fighting the tremor in her voice. "I've always been loyal to you, Mr. Glovers. Everything I do is for you."

Her attempt at charm was undermined by the deep scars marring her face. What might once have been alluring now bordered on grotesque, her disfigurement robbing her of her former appeal. Maurice tilted his head, seemingly considering her words.

His expression shifted as she opened her mouth to speak. His smile widened—too wide. His brown eyes gleamed with an unsettling glint of dark humor.

"Mr. Glovers..." Abbie's stomach twisted; her instincts screamed a warning. That smile—it was the same one he'd worn when he'd thrown her into the crocodile pool.

"Get rid of her," Maurice said lazily, as if commenting on the weather. "The Glovers family doesn't need ugly maids."

The order struck like a thunderclap. Two men immediately approached to seize her.

Abbie's legs buckled, her mind racing. Dismissed like this, with her appearance… she would have nothing left—no career, no future. Her ruined face would be splashed across headlines, a cruel reminder of what she once was.

"No! Mr. Glovers, please!" Abbie dropped to her knees, clutching at Maurice's pant leg. She couldn't afford to leave—this was her last lifeline. Despite her resentment, she clung to the faint hope that he might help her regain her beauty and her former life. "Don't send me away! I'll do anything! I'll obey you, I swear!"

Maurice gazed down at her, his smile unchanged. For all his charm, his sadistic satisfaction at watching her grovel was unmistakable.

"You like guessing people's thoughts, don't you?" he said, tilting his head. "I'll give you a chance. Guess what I'm thinking right now. If you're right, I'll grant your wish. I'll find the best doctors to fix your face. I'll put you back in the spotlight, with all the resources you need. Fame, fortune—it'll all be yours."

Her heart pounded. This was her chance to reclaim everything. But she had to play her cards correctly.

Maurice's thoughts… What could he possibly be thinking?

Recalling his actions that day, Abbie's mind raced. He was ruthless and vindictive. Felicia had humiliated him and crippled his arms. There was no way he'd let her escape unscathed. Maurice wasn't the forgiving type. She inhaled sharply, steeling herself for the gamble of her life.

She said, her voice firm despite her trembling hands, "I think you're already seeking a master healer—someone who can remove the venomous creature. Once it's gone and you're free of her, you'll do to her exactly what she did to you."
