Roberta, pushed to the ground, had bruises on her hands and feet. She stumbled, her long black hair obscuring half her face. She appeared timid, trembling slightly like a frightened rabbit. Felicia immediately recognized the girl she had rescued from the village, only to have her abandon her and escape. She had thought they would never meet again. Fate, it seemed, had a strange way of working.
At that moment, Amber intervened, introducing, "Ms. Felicia, this is Roberta Walsh. She's part of Mr. Noah's familyโhis illegitimate daughter."
"Six months ago, Mrs. Walsh sent her abroad for studies. However, a few days ago, she returned home injured, claiming she'd been robbed." Felicia mused, "Study abroad?"
Studying Roberta's situation, Felicia chuckled. The moment she learned Roberta was the illegitimate child, everything became clear. It was another story of a wealthy familyโthe legitimate wife, unable to accept the illegitimate daughter, used studies abroad as a cover to send her to human traffickers.
But it was the man's infidelity that caused it all. Felicia rose from her wheelchair and hobbled toward Roberta.
Roberta, sitting on the ground, kept her head down. She recognized Felicia but didn't dare look up until Felicia stood before her. Trembling, she slowly raised her head and tearfully whispered, "Felicia, Aunt Felicia... I'm sorry..." She repeated, "I'm sorry," over and over.
In that night of despair, she had panicked and escaped, leaving Felicia behind. Roberta choked on her sobs, covering her face. "I'm really sorry," she cried.
Felicia closed her eyes. She understood Roberta's fear and despair. Imprisoned and tortured for six months, finally seeing hope, she'd simply wanted to escape. Wanting to survive wasn't wrong. Yet, as the one betrayed, Felicia understood but couldn't forgive.
Felicia sighed and reached out to help Roberta up, but Roberta stubbornly knelt, wanting to atone. Felicia said helplessly, "I'm injured and unsteady. I can't help you up; please get up."
Hearing this, Roberta quickly stood, afraid of burdening Felicia. Shame filled her face as she urgently asked, "Aunt Felicia, are you seriously injured? Will there be any lasting effects?" Felicia found it amusing. "What if there are?"
"I would work my whole life to make it up to you," Roberta said, tears still on her face, her expression serious.
Felicia shook her head. "Don't worry. My injury isn't serious. I'll be fine."
Roberta breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness you're okay. Otherwise, I would feel guilty for the rest of my life..." Felicia didn't quite catch the last part. Just as she was about to ask, a glamorous middle-aged woman approached from the direction of the Lunar Arch. Dressed in a fur coat and high heels, she exuded wealth.
Roberta trembled as if electrocuted. Fear was etched onto her face.
Felicia observed quietly, guessing this was Noah's daughter-in-law, Talia Tomlinson, her sister-in-law. Ignoring Felicia, Talia scolded Roberta, "Don't you know we have guests? The kitchen is busy; you should help."
"I'll go right away," Roberta replied.
"And remember to wash my clothes," Talia called after her. "They're silk and need hand-washing."
