If the nurse hadn't checked on Dexter, he would have suffocated. He expected to comfort Myra, perhaps even endure her wrath, after revealing the truth. Instead, after the initial shock, she remained unusually calm. She neither refuted him nor blindly defended Kayla.
Dexter was surprised and uneasy, fearing a delayed reaction. But Myra simply gave him a strange look. "I guessed as much." She had indeed suspected, subtly questioning the nurse and avoiding Kayla. Later, she stayed by Dexter's side, using Kayla as an excuse to keep her away from the hospital and Dexter. She even secretly arranged for Dexter's medical treatment without Kayla's knowledge.
Myra's eyes watered. "I guessed it," she sobbed. "I just didn't want to believe it." Only after hearing Dexter's account did she accept the truth. Heartbroken, she recalled the video of Ruben's murder—Kayla coldly ordering Shawn to strangle him, then calmly staging the scene, her smile terrifying. Ruben was merely a driver; the guilt was quickly assuaged by financial compensation. This was different; Kayla had tried to kill Dexter. Myra wouldn't let it go. Anger surged; if Kayla were present, Myra feared she might have struck her. The afternoon's slap was insufficient.
She found it laughable that Kayla had reconciled with her biological parents after the Fuller family's decline. Years ago, Myra had paid fifty million to sever Kayla's ties with them. Kayla's return to her biological family was ironic. But the distance was preferable; at least Myra wouldn't be tempted to strike her again.
"Darling, let it go," Dexter comforted her. "Sometimes, seeing through someone early is a blessing." His voice softened as he recalled a dream. "It's just... we owe our real daughter so much..."
Myra hesitated. "D-Do you know who saved us from those thugs that night?"
"Who?" Dexter asked.
He had collapsed; Felicia appeared, but in his semi-conscious state, he only saw a figure. He didn't see their face or remember what happened afterward.
Myra said bitterly, "It was Licia. But she won't admit it and doesn't want to reunite with us."
Dexter was stunned. "There were so many people that night. Was Licia hurt?"
Myra stammered, "I—I don't think so."
They exchanged an embarrassed look. Felicia's reluctance to call them parents stemmed from their past wrongs. People have feelings; feelings can cause hurt. Was Felicia hurt by their actions?
