Chapter 478
Imogen quickly rose to greet Felicia personally. Felicia, unwilling to trouble the heavily pregnant woman, was about to depart when Johanna called out loudly. Imogen, startled, gently scolded her. "Why are you shouting? What is it?"
Johanna offered a strained smile. "The doctor traveled so far to see you. How could we let her leave without proper hospitality?"
"You're right! I was so overjoyed, I forgot my manners!" Imogen, naturally good-tempered, especially toward Johanna, tolerated almost anything. To Felicia, however, this kindness bordered on naivetรฉ, making her an easy target.
"No need," Felicia said, turning to leave. "I have other matters." Stanley, who had followed silently, picked up the medical kit and led the way.
Johanna panicked, wanting to detain Felicia but lacking a convincing excuse. Gritting her teeth, she leaned close to Imogen and whispered.
Imogen's eyes widened. "Are you sure? This miracle healer is Stephan's sweetheart?"
The word "sweetheart" made Johanna furious, but to maintain her scheme, she nodded. "That's right. Didn't I mention my trip to Khogend with Stephan? I saw it firsthandโhe's very fond of her. Ask Stanley; he's Stephan's most trusted subordinate and even calls her Mrs. Russell."
Expecting Imogen's displeasure, Johanna was surprised by Imogen's exclamation, "Oh dear! Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Cradling her belly, Imogen hurried after Felicia, shouting, "Felicia! My sister-in-law! Don't leave!"
Johanna was speechless.
Felicia, nearing the estate gates and about to enter her car, heard the commotion. Turning, she saw a heavily pregnant Imogen running towards her. Alarmed, Felicia stepped forward to support her.
Imogen, breathless, laughed as she grabbed Felicia's hand, pleading, "Don't go yet! Stay a few days; I'll show you around our house."
Our house? Felicia couldn't help but laugh. She shook her head. "I really can't, Ms. Russell, Iโ"
Before she finished, Imogen clutched her belly and cried out, her face paling. Felicia immediately checked her pulse, frowning. Turning to the maids and Stanley, she instructed, "She's experiencing fetal distress. Help her to her room."
"Yes, right away."
Stanley swiftly carried Imogen to her room. Once settled, he respectfully withdrew. Felicia administered acupuncture.
Imogen slowly recovered, shaken. "I ran too fast. Is the baby okay?"
"The baby's fine. You both ate healthy, but you must be more careful. You risk premature delivery," Felicia stated bluntly.
Imogen nodded, her eyes still radiating a surprising brightness. Felicia sighed inwardly. Faced with Imogen's pleas, she reluctantly agreed to stay a few days.
Imogen, overjoyed, chatted with Felicia until, realizing Felicia's fatigue, she insisted on rest. Felicia did need a nap. What she didn't expect was that Imogen had arranged for her to rest in Stephan's bedroom.
