“We shouldn’t have adopted you! We should have drowned you in a cesspit when you were born!”
“You’re nothing but a curse! You bring nothing but trouble!”
“Felicia, give me back my son’s life!”
Howell’s eyes bulged with rage as he fumbled in his pocket. He pulled out a pair of scissors and lunged at Felicia. Just as Stanley was about to intervene, Felicia effortlessly grabbed Howell’s wrist, twisted it, and kneed him, toppling him over. Without hesitation, she scooped up a handful of dirt and grass and stuffed it into Howell’s mouth. While it caused little harm, it was utterly humiliating!
Howell instinctively tried to spit it out, but Felicia clamped his jaw shut. Tabitha shrieked and charged at Felicia, clawing at her with intentionally sharpened nails. Felicia kicked her to the ground and repeated the humiliating treatment, shoving dirt into Tabitha’s mouth.
Moments ago, the pair had been hurling insults with unrestrained ferocity. Now, they were bent over, frantically spitting out dirt and coughing. Even after spitting, the earthy bitterness lingered, leaving them retching in disgust.
Throughout the ordeal, Felicia remained expressionless. Calmly, in a cold voice, she said, “It was Kayla who sent you, wasn’t it?”
Her new address was a secret, unknown even to Dexter and Myra. The only person with the connections to uncover it was Kayla, who had latched onto the Carrell family.
Howell opened his mouth to curse, but the sight of Felicia scooping up more dirt silenced him instantly.
Tabitha retorted, “So what if she did? Without us, you’d be nothing, you wretch!”
Felicia let out a soft, chilling laugh. “If it weren’t for you two deliberately swapping me with Kayla, I wouldn’t be what I am. Instead…” She trailed off, shading her eyes. It wasn’t worth pursuing the thought.
Howell and Tabitha froze, their faces paling. They stared at Felicia in disbelief, stammering, “H–How did you know…?”
For years, they had claimed the baby swap was an accident. Even Dexter and Myra believed it to be a tragic mix-up. But Felicia’s tone revealed she knew everything.
“How hard is it to figure out?” Felicia said indifferently. “There aren’t so many accidents in life. It was premeditated. But whether I know or not doesn’t matter anymore.”
Tabitha dusted herself off and lifted her chin. At this point, what did it matter if Dexter and Myra learned the truth? The Fuller family had fallen from grace. The once-mighty tycoons were now powerless. What revenge could they possibly enact?
Howell clearly thought the same. With renewed energy, the couple continued their tirade.
“Since you know the truth, then you should be grateful! You’re not even our real daughter, but we still fed you and raised you! Now that you’re successful, don’t you think you owe us something?”
Stanley could only shake his head in disbelief. The audacity of these shameless people was unbelievable!
Felicia stroked her chain and smiled. These people had one thing in common: they never suffered from inner turmoil or guilt. Without fear of conscience or remorse, they acted with complete self-interest and never reflected on their actions. If something benefited them, they’d stop at nothing to seize it; if not, they’d discard it without a second thought, blaming others.
In short, it boiled down to two things: they were never wrong, and others were always at fault; and no matter how badly they treated others, they expected gratitude.
