Chapter 539

Felicia glanced down at Kayla, her voice ice-cold. "Let go," she ordered.

Kayla let out a crazed laugh, her face twisting in deranged determination. "I won't let go even if I die! If I can't live, why should you?" Her expression was desperate, a madness threatening to engulf them both. Her grip tightened. If she couldn't have peace, neither could Felicia.

Her maniacal laughter echoed, her once-delicate face now grotesque and terrifying. With venom dripping from every word, she spat, "Felicia, you're the reason I ended up like this! You owe me, and you must pay!"

Felicia was speechless. Kayla's twisted logic was incomprehensible. People like Kayla never took responsibility. Victories were deserved; defeats were always someone else's fault. The consequences of their actions were never their own.

Felicia narrowed her eyes and, without hesitation, drove her foot into Kayla's head with considerable force. Kayla reeled, her head ringing, but even through the pain, she clung desperately to Felicia's leg. "I told you, even if I die, I won't let go! Felicia, you're coming down with me—"

Before she could finish, a bloodcurdling scream escaped her lips. Two silver needles pierced her back, instantly sapping her strength. Her hands involuntarily loosened, freeing Felicia.

Felicia didn't hesitate, climbing swiftly and agilely up the crevice's rocky walls. Above, explosions continued, sending rocks and debris raining down. A few more blasts would collapse the canyon entirely.

"Felicia! Felicia! Pull me up! Save me! I don't want to die… Felicia! I'll haunt you as a ghost!"

Kayla's screams were desperate, heart-wrenching. She seemed to understand her hopelessness. Watching Felicia near the escape, her hatred flared. "Bitch! Go to hell!"

In a burst of frenzied strength, Kayla grabbed a nearby flashlight and hurled it at Felicia. The flashlight cut through the air, gleaming, aimed at Felicia's back.

Felicia was nearly out of the crevice, using hands and feet to pull herself up. Sensing the approaching flashlight, she had no time to defend herself.

With a dull thud, the flashlight struck her spine. The impact threw her off balance, but she steadied herself. Then, another deafening explosion rocked the ground. Climbing without safety ropes was dangerous, and her sweaty palms reduced her grip. The blast's shockwave sent her tilting backward.

In an instant, she plummeted.

Kayla erupted into uncontrollable laughter.

But a slim, agile figure dove into the chaos, cutting through dust and quaking ground. Amidst explosions and tumbling rocks, the figure leaped downward, catching Felicia mid-fall and wrapping an arm firmly around her waist.
