Chapter 544
As soon as the helicopter landed steadily, Felicia put her shoes back on. The pain from her blistered feet was much less severe, allowing her to walk. Stephan disembarked first, then turned and offered her his hand. Felicia readily accepted his help, jumping down from the helicopter.
Before she could fully regain her balance, a voice from nearby sharply interrupted, "Stephan! So, you do know how to come back! I thought you didn't care about me anymore! All you think about is that Fuller girl!"
Johanna had already relayed the scene to Imogen moments before the helicopter landed, focusing on Stephan and Felicia. Imogen, already frustrated, immediately directed her anger at Felicia. Her hostility was palpable.
Felicia was surprised. She hadn't expected Imogen to come to this dangerous rainforest, especially while heavily pregnant. The intensity of their sibling bond was evident.
As Felicia steadied herself, she instinctively tried to withdraw her hand, but Stephan held firm. She tugged slightly, but his grip tightened. "Imogen, didn't I tell you to leave?"
Fortunately, the earlier explosion was far enough away to be harmless. Otherwise, a pregnant woman near that chaos would have been terrible.
Imogen, however, was too consumed by anger to reason. Her impaired vision prevented her from seeing Stephan and his group's disheveled and bloodied state. Days of anxious waiting outside the rainforest, unable to eat or sleep, had fueled her frustration and rage. Seeing Stephan, her pent-up anger erupted.
With a cold laugh, she snapped, "You can't wait to send me away, can you? So I won't get in your way, right?"
Stephan was speechless, caught between amusement and exasperation. He'd told her to leave, not because she was a bother, but because he was worried about her safety.
"My dearest sister, why are you—" He was interrupted.
"Don't try to be close to me! I'm unworthy of being your sister. Are you satisfied now?"
Guided by his voice, Imogen turned her furious gaze on Stephan. Unrestrained, she pointed at Felicia and barked, "Tell that Fuller girl to get lost! I've told you before—I don't want her around me again!"
Behind Imogen, Johanna stood silently, her fingers tightening. She seemed preoccupied, her mind elsewhere. Hadn't he promised to eliminate Stephan? Why was Stephan still alive? And what had happened to her brother? Unease flickered in Johanna's eyes, unnoticed by the others.
Stephan's amusement vanished, replaced by a darkening expression. He summoned Andy, who had been with Imogen, and asked, "What happened while I was gone?"
Before Andy could answer, Stanley stepped forward, patting Andy on the shoulder. Clearing his throat, he said, "Mr. Russell, let me explain."
Stanley recounted everything that had happened after Stephan left Khogend. He detailed Felicia's medical consultation for the Russell family in Seldvale, her diagnosis of Imogen's eye condition, and her assurance of treatment. Felicia had even prepared the necessary ingredients.
Initially, Felicia and Imogen had gotten along, but Johanna mentioning Archie's death and implicating the Fuller family changed everything. Imogen's hatred for the Fullers extended to Felicia, leading to Felicia's expulsion from the Russell residence.
