For the past few days, Stephan hadn't contacted Felicia. Her calls went unanswered, her messages unread. Stanley had said he was busy, but could he truly be that busy? Too busy for a brief phone call? Excuses. All excuses! Men couldn't be trusted!
He had promised to marry her upon his return from the rainforest; he'd even planned the dowry. Now, only silence remained. Felicia considered calling again.
The call went straight to voicemail. Was she being ignored? Had Stephan, back in Seldvale, finally severed ties with her at Imogen's urging?
Felicia forced a smile, suppressing her rising anxiety. Simultaneously, a plane landed in Seldvale, carrying Kerry, a medicine deliveryman.
Despite Seldvale's dazzling skyscrapers and overwhelming prosperity, Kerry remained focused solely on his task. This trip represented more than Union Clinic; it represented Felicia herself. He had to succeed flawlessly.
Immediately upon landing, he hailed a taxi to the Russell residence, the address provided by Felicia. After a thirty-minute ride, he arrived.
Even prepared, Kerry was stunned by the Russell estate's lavishness. It was every bit as awe-inspiring as its reputation suggested. He trembled, his legs shaking uncontrollably.
Approaching the villa, two stern-faced guards blocked his path.
"This is the Russell residence. Who dares trespass?" one bellowed.
"I'm not trespassing! I'm delivering medicine!" Kerry waved his hands, his initial confidence faltering under their intimidating presence. He stammered, "I—I'm here for Ms. Russell. Please pass the message."
"Delivering medicine to Ms. Russell?"
The guards exchanged glances. One instructed, "Stand here and wait."
Kerry obeyed, motionless, while a guard relayed the message. Inside, Imogen cradled her child, soothing its cries. The baby, once frail, was growing stronger daily, his health visibly improving, bringing Imogen great comfort.
