Chapter 575

The subordinate accepted the slip of paper without surprise, clearly accustomed to such tasks. He bowed slightly and left the room.

Pete sat alone by the window, gazing at the moon. Unbidden, Feliciaโ€™s striking face appeared in his mind. He chuckled softly, murmuring, โ€œFelicia, oh Felicia, youโ€™re quite intriguing. Itโ€™s a pityโ€ฆ this is as far as youโ€™ll go.โ€

Meanwhile, in Ablil, a fierce storm raged. Rain poured down, accompanied by howling winds, lightning flashes, and rolling thunder.

At the Gloversโ€™ luxurious estate, Maurice listened to a subordinateโ€™s report. Hearing that Stephan had returned from the rainforest blinded, he reacted with glee.

โ€œWonderful! Just wonderful! Even Mr. Russell has his bad days!โ€

His subordinate continued, โ€œRecent news from the Russell family indicates Mr. Russellโ€™s blindness was caused by poisoning. The toxins are extremely potent, and he remains unconscious, in a coma, for three days now.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s even better!โ€ Maurice excitedly tapped his leg, immediately ordering preparations for a flight to Khogend.

His subordinates were unsurprised by his impulsiveness. Having once been afflicted by twin venomous creatures, Maurice frequently traveled to Khogend, his purpose always clear. Despite repeated rejections and indifference, his enthusiasm remained undeterred.

The subordinate cleared his throat. โ€œMr. Glovers, thereโ€™s also news about Ms. Fuller.โ€

Though recently absent from Khogend, Maurice maintained secret protection for Felicia, keeping him well-informed. This meticulous surveillance had facilitated their โ€œchance encounterโ€ in the rainforest.

At the mention of Felicia, Mauriceโ€™s smile vanished. โ€œSpeak.โ€

The subordinate paused, carefully choosing his words. โ€œMs. Fuller has hired a bodyguardโ€”a moderately well-known mercenaryโ€”who has been inseparable from her recently.โ€

โ€œAnd then?โ€ Maurice pressed. โ€œWhat else?โ€

โ€œWe investigated the mercenary. Before going to the rainforest, Ms. Fuller extensively researched bronze bells. We found no further leads, nor could we determine her intentions.โ€

โ€œAdditionally,โ€ the subordinate continued, โ€œafter returning from the rainforest, she fell unconscious. Even Union Clinicโ€™s top physicians were helpless.โ€

Mauriceโ€™s brow furrowed. He paced before urging, โ€œIs the plane ready? Whereโ€™s the crew?โ€

โ€œReady, Mr. Glovers. Flight path cleared, fuel topped off, crew in position. We can depart anytime.โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€

Maurice strode out first. A private plane departed Ablil in the dead of night, landing in Khogend two and a half hours later.

Unaware of the turmoil, Felicia slept soundly. At dawn, she awoke, washed, and dressed. Scarlet waited in the training yard, the temporary sparring area.

On the first day, chunks of grass had been torn up; on the second, two of Mikeโ€™s rare plants were destroyed. Felicia didn't mind, but the housekeepers were distressed. Before their next session, all nearby plants were moved to safety.

Felicia rubbed her nose. โ€œAlright, letโ€™s begin. You attack, I defend.โ€
