Chapter 60

Without a word from Stephan, the man beside him produced the keys, opened the inner door, and respectfully stood aside. Felicia glanced inside. A makeshift operating room lay beyond, containing a man on a bed, his weak vital signs barely sustained by surrounding medical equipment.

Earning that million-dollar fee wouldn't be easy. Felicia shook her head, rolled her eyes, and entered. Stephan followed, and one of his subordinates brought him a chair. He settled nearby, intending to observe.

Felicia didn't mind. She examined the man's pulse; it was almost nonexistent. After a time, she pinpointed the cause: aside from treated external injuries, severe internal damage stemmed from reverse blood flow in his meridians, seeping into his body. She opened her needle case; a row of silver needles gleamed under the light.

Swiftly and accurately, she inserted the first needle. Her actions were smooth, and in moments, the patient was covered in needles from head to toe.

Throughout the procedure, silence reigned. Felicia, absorbed and serious, continued her work. After administering acupuncture and a dose of medicine, the patient moved slightly, his vital signs briefly fluctuating before settling. This was only the beginning.

Eventually, Felicia removed all the needles. Rubbing her sore wrist, she announced, "It's done. He'll be fine now." She had not only unblocked his meridians but also nearly expelled the coldness from his body. With rest, he would soon walk normally. She glanced at the clock and froze. "What time is it? 11:00 am?"

Dexter and Myra were scheduled to visit the Lawson residence to discuss Matthew's situation. Felicia had agreed to accompany them. Now, it was already 11:00 am; they had likely already met. It would take at least forty minutes to reach the Lawson residence.

Felicia rushed to Stephan. "Mr. Russell, I've treated the man. I have an urgent matter to attend to. Could you arrange transportation for me?" She assumed he'd easily assign a subordinate. To her surprise, Stephan rose languidly, his dignity and composure unwavering despite a sleepless night. He tilted his head, his long, dark lashes casting a shadow. His gaze lingered on Felicia.

"Let's go," he said, offering to take her.

Felicia didn't hesitate. She quickly packed her things and followed him.

At the Fuller residence, Dexter and Myra, dressed and ready to leave, noticed Felicia's absence. They knocked on her door to find the room empty. Questioning the maids yielded nothing; no one had seen her depart.

"Gosh! Didn't we agree on this last night? Why did she sneak out without a word? Does she even want to call off this engagement?" Myra frowned. Dexter checked the time. "It's getting late. We should go." Visiting the Lawsons had its rules; lateness would be disrespectful.

Kayla, dressed in a tailored skirt set and high ponytail, adorned with Arnold's diamond hairpin, said, "Don't get mad, Mom. She might have just snuck out for some fun. Besides, this visit to the Lawsons doesn't really involve her." She linked arms with Myra. The visit's true purpose was to finalize Kayla's engagement with Arnold; everything else was secondary.
