Imogen began her apology without pretense of reluctance. Roberta was a little surprised. Although their past conflicts had been unpleasant, they hadn't caused Felicia any real harm. Given Imogen's genuine attitude, Felicia naturally wouldn't hold a grudge. Could it be that Imogen had realized she'd been betrayed? What intrigued Felicia most was how Imogen had suddenly come to her senses.
After some thought, Felicia asked, "Ms. Russell, you must have seen it somehow, right? About Archlie and Johanna."
Imogen forced a smile, feeling even more sorrowful inside. Felicia had only been at the Russell residence for two days and hadn't interacted much with Archlie or Johanna, yet she'd seen through their dirty little secrets so easily. And Imogen, the one most involved, had only just woken up to the truth.
Imogen nodded. "Yes, I saw it with my own eyes," she replied, thinking, "I was paid full price for the treatment, after all. Consider this extra information a bonus."
Felicia said, "I actually only found out last night. I was planning to have you take the medicine today so you could see the truth for yourself. But it seems you've already figured it out. In a way, it's better this way. Wounds only heal when the infection is drained. So, I should actually congratulate you."
Felicia blinked playfully, her voice gentle and melodic. Her words struck a chord in Imogen's heart.
"Thank you," Imogen smiled radiantly.
The two fell into conversation and soon forgot about Stephan. Stephan clicked his tongue but remained seated, legs stretched out lazily. He reached out to gently hook Felicia's fingers, playing with them absentmindedly. His hand was promptly swatted away with a sharp smack. Undeterred, he tried againโonly to be met with the same result. Finally, Stephan turned his attention to Imogen, but before he could speak, she gave him a swift kick. Giving up, Stephan sprawled on the lounge chair, resigned to waiting for them to finish their chat.
After a long while, Imogen and Felicia finally concluded their conversation. It was better that he stayed out of it. Felicia planned to excuse herself, offering, "I'll leave you two to talk. I'll take a walk outside."
"No need," Stephan and Imogen said in unison, immediately reaching outโone grabbing Felicia's left arm, the other her wrist. "We're all family now. There's no need to leave."
Stephan patted the seat beside him, gesturing for Felicia to sit down. Before she could refuse, he gave her a light tug, pulling her onto the couch. As she landed, he slipped a small dish into her hands. It was filled with neatly peeled grapes. That morning, Felicia had casually remarked that if Stephan had so much energy, he might as well peel some grapes for her. She never expected him to actually spend the entire morning doing just that.
