Listen to this chapter:

Feliciaโ€™s mind raced. Thoughts surged through her like fireworks exploding in the skyโ€”chaotic, dazzling, and deafening. She knew Stephan suspected something, and she understood his doubts. However, she didn't know how to explain Johanna's use of the Heat Eater as a threat. It clearly indicated a connection to the robed figure; perhaps the figure was using Johanna. That night in the forest, their rescue attempt had failed to capture him. This time, it might be their chance.

Felicia hesitated before responding, โ€œIโ€™ve had dealings with the people behind this before. Theyโ€”โ€

She was interrupted. A guard rushed in, reporting, โ€œWeโ€™ve located Johannaโ€™s phone. The signal disappeared near a gas station nine miles from Mount Farstone.โ€

Stephan glanced at Felicia, his expression unreadable. He turned to the guard, ordering, โ€œSeal off all entrances and exits to Mount Farstone discreetly. Make sure they donโ€™t notice.โ€ No one could afford to take chances with Calebโ€™s life. The Heat Eater could resurface at any moment. For Imogen, it was a very real threat.

โ€œIโ€™ll go meet her,โ€ Imogen said firmly. She and Johanna had unresolved grievances; this confrontation was inevitable.

Felicia spoke up, โ€œIโ€™ll go with you.โ€ The true target was Felicia herself. She lowered her gaze, planning her next move. Once on the mountain, she would either incapacitate Imogen or convince her to retreat. As long as Felicia attended the meeting, the culprits wouldn't target Caleb. Their sole intention was to lure her out. Was she that invaluable to them?

At that moment, Felicia realized something troubling. Why had the robed figure gone to such lengths?

Felicia volunteered to accompany Imogen, but Imogen refused. โ€œIโ€™ll go alone. Thereโ€™s no need for you to risk this with me. You should stay back.โ€

Felicia shook her head, ignoring Imogenโ€™s protests as she climbed into the car. Through the window, she locked eyes with Stephan. Even as the car pulled away, he stood motionless, a silent statue. The air grew heavy and tense.

Stanley, cautious, asked, โ€œMr. Russell, your instructions?โ€

Stephan finally moved, letting out a low laughโ€”chilling at that moment. He said calmly, โ€œLevel the mountain.โ€

Stanley didnโ€™t flinch. This decisive command was entirely in line with Stephanโ€™s usual approach. No one could threaten Stephan Russell. โ€œYes, sir!โ€ Stanley responded, leaving immediately.

The SUV sped toward Mount Farstone. Neither Felicia nor Imogen spoke. The mountain loomed in the distance. Felicia was about to speak when a thunderous explosion echoed through the air. Ahead, the peak erupted in a massive mushroom cloud of smoke and fire.
