Listen to this chapter:

She shouted in disappointment, "Felicia, how could you do that? If you needed money, couldn't you have come to us? Why did you go behind our backs and disgrace yourself? You've brought shame on the Fullers." It was the same story again. Dexter and Myra had always believed Kayla's slanderous words, regardless of how dubious the accusations seemed. They never bothered to verify the truth before resorting to scolding and slapping her. What else was there to say?

Felicia's eyes narrowed, and she saw a fleeting look of smug satisfaction on Kayla's face. She grabbed Kayla by the collar, a cold smile playing on her lips, and began slapping her mercilessly. "Making up stories, huh? Twisting the truth, huh?" she chided. "You're filthy inside and out, so you assume everyone else is just as filthy!"

Each slap was harder than Myra's earlier blow. The sharp slaps echoed in the car, mixed with Kayla's cries. Most frightening were Felicia's eyes, fixed on Myra and Dexter while her hands rained down on Kayla. Her usually clear gaze now glinted with violent rage, a look that made it impossible to meet her eyes.

Myra was stunned. Realizing the situation, she panicked. "Licia, stop it! We can talk this out, but please don't hit her!" she cried in fear.

"Talk this out?" Felicia scoffed, continuing her assault. "Mrs. Fuller, that wasn't what you said when you slapped me. Kayla slandered me, and you didn't hesitate to hit me without asking for an explanation. Why?"

"You could have explained," Myra pleaded, her voice softening as Felicia's gaze grew colder. "You can't do this, even if there was a misunderstanding. You accuse me of something I didn't do, and you expect me to explain myself? If Kayla had accused me of stealing food, would I have to cut open my stomach to prove my innocence?"

Felicia fumed, her rage seemingly threatening to tear the car apart. Myra shuddered and finally broke down. "Licia, I'm sorry. It was my fault. I made a mistake..."

"That's not enough," Felicia retorted. "I haven't proved my innocence yet." With that, she repeatedly banged Kayla's head against the car door, shouting, "Tell me! You said you saw me getting out of a man's car. How did you jump to the conclusion that I'm sleeping around?" Kayla, disoriented and sobbing, could barely speak. "Mom... help me... Ah!"

Myra tried to intervene several times but was too terrified by Felicia's murderous glare. Dexter, consumed by his own anxieties about prison, remained oblivious to the chaos.

In desperation, Myra stomped her feet and shouted, but hesitated upon seeing Felicia's terrifying glare. Felicia's eyes blazed as she yanked Kayla's head up. "Did you see me with anyone? Answer me!"

"No... I didn't..." Kayla wailed, her face bruised. Felicia sneered. "If that's the case, why did you say I..."
