Listen to this chapter:

Felicia watched the chaotic scene unfold, a strange sense of familiarity washing over her. Before she could fully process this feeling, she lunged forward, pulling Maurice back just in time. The knife, aimed with deadly precision, grazed Maurice's left arm, inflicting only a shallow wound.

No one expected Felicia's intervention, least of all Stephan, whose usually calm demeanor cracked with shock. Amid the clamor, a horrifying squelch broke the stunned silenceโ€”the sound of a blade piercing flesh. Maurice had seized the knife mid-air and, without hesitation, drove it into Imogen's chest.

Time seemed to stop. An eerie stillness descended, leaving everyone in stunned silence, their eyes wide with disbelief. Felicia's quick actionโ€”pulling Maurice backโ€”had averted a far greater tragedy. Using the distraction created by Stephan's men rushing to restrain him, Maurice pushed Felicia aside.

Felicia turned sharply, her eyes locking onto Imogen's pale figure collapsing to the ground. A gust of wind brushed past Felicia's ear as Stephan lunged forward, catching Imogen before she hit the ground. When Felicia met Stephan's gaze, the fire in his eyesโ€”anger, hatred, furyโ€”was intense. Felicia froze, momentarily paralyzed. Simultaneously, Stephan's men subdued Maurice.

A cold wind swept through the clearing, snapping Felicia back to reality. She scrambled toward Imogen, producing two small bottles. Without hesitation, she prepared to administer a pill. But Stephan's hand clamped around her wrist, halting her.

"Can I trust you, Felicia?" His gaze was icy, filled with unprecedented coldness and scrutiny. Felicia knew her earlier action had shattered his trust. Her voice, when she finally spoke, was steady but bitter. "You have no other choice."

Imogen's wound was dangerously deep. Even if Stephan doubted Felicia, she was their only hope. They lacked the time to reach a hospital, and no one else possessed the necessary medical expertise. Only Felicia's medicine could save Imogen.

Faced with his sister's life hanging by a thread, Stephan relented. He released her wrist and watched with a stony expression as Felicia administered the pills. Scarlet, standing nearby, opened her mouth to speak but ultimately remained silent.

Only Scarlet knew the value and origin of Felicia's medicineโ€”a concoction Felicia had created before arriving in Seldvale, using rare and precious ingredients, even her own blood, to perfect it.
