Peta hesitated, seemingly unsure what to say. After some time, he finally responded, โYouโre talking about a place that absolutely canโt fall into the wrong hands. Itโs a place everyone dreams of possessing.โ A land paved with gold? A land of untold treasures? You'll understand when you see it for yourself. All I can tell you is thisโInsaโฆ
Felicia immediately lost interest. Any curiosity sheโd had was fleeting, barely enough to keep her engaged. For her, the only thing that mattered about the island was finding a Heart Eater to suppress the Heart Faberโs torment of Maurice.
The deal was tentatively set. They agreed to depart in three days. Felicia glanced at Pete, who immediately motioned for the robed man to act. Begrudgingly, the robed figure worked toโฆ
โTim will only last five days,โ the robed man warned, his tone curt and impatient. โIf you donโt find another Heart Eater from the same source within that time, heโs as good as dead.โ Felicia checked Mauriceโs pulse and felt a bit more reassured. The immediate danger had passed, and Maurice wouldnโt fall into another mind-controlled frenzy for now. However, the immediate effects of the backlash had left him severely weakened. Over the next few days, Maurice would be fragile and vulnerable.
The subordinates from the Glovers family exchanged glances before cautiously addressing Felicia, โMs. Tuller, if itโs alright, weโll take Mr. Glovers down the mountain now. Weโre staying atโฆโ
โGo ahead,โ Felicia said after a momentโs thought. Before they left, she added, โIn about two hours, heโll wake up. Let him know he needs to rest properly for the next couple of days. In a few days, heโs coming with me.โ She was going to deal with the venomous creature inside him, and Maurice had to be there too.
The two nodded respectfully and carried Maurice away. Once they were gone, only Felicia, Scarlet, Pete, and the robed man remained.
โTime toโฆโ Pete started. Felicia responded with a curt nod but didnโt bother to reply, preparing to go down the mountain with Scarlet.
Pete watched her retreating figure, his eyes twitching uncontrollably. Heโd half-expected Felicia to make things difficult for him, perhaps even try to counter him. He wondered if he had misjudged her. She didnโt seem as vindictive as heโd assumed. But just as that thought crossed his mind, the sound of synchronized, hurried footsteps shattered the calm. Pete spun around, his eyes widening at the sight of an advancing team. They were armed to the teeth and closing in on them.
The robed man exclaimed in disbelief, โThe Special Operations Unit? Michael Conte? Fork! How the hell did they find us?โ His expression shifted from shock to panic. Without hesitation, he bolted toward the SUV while shouting at the driver, โDrive! Now! Go!โ But then he didnโt dare move until Pete had climbed into the vehicle. Furious, the robed man looked as though he might explode.
Pete clenched his fists tightly, his mind racing. He and the robed man had been under the Special Operations Unitโs radar for some time now, but he hadnโt anticipated them showing up atโฆ Peteโs mind zeroed in on the likely suspect, and his gaze snapped to the direction Felicia had taken.
Far ahead, she was only a good distance away. She hadnโt so much as glanced back, but as though sensing his scrutiny, she casually raised her hand and waved without turning around. Her slender figure rounded the bend.
