Chapter 113
Amcha glanced at Isabel and said pitifully, “Isabel, after everything that’s happened, I know I was wrong. I wanted to apologize to Mom, but then this happened.”
“Mom!” Isabel looked at her, confused. She wondered when Amelia became Hannah’s mother. Amelia used to avoid them and even looked down on their family.
“Amelia, I’m not your mother anymore. You should call me Mrs. Galvez,” Hannah said, knowing Amelia might feel uncomfortable.
Amelia replied, “Yes, Mrs. Galvez. Even though you’re not my biological mother, you raised me for eighteen years. In my heart, you’re more like a real mother to me than my own mother ever was.”
Isabel was stunned. The change in attitude was so sudden; she never expected this. Hannah was also skeptical. After finding out she wasn’t related, Amelia had been so cold to them. Why the sudden change?
“Amelia, what are you talking about? Don’t you have a real mother? I’m just your adoptive mother,” Hannah asked.
Amelia sobbed, “Mrs. Galvez, my family went bankrupt, and my biological parents turned against me. Even my brothers called me a jinx and kicked me out of the house. Now I realize that you’re the only ones who truly care about me. Mrs. Galvez, please, for old times’ sake, don’t abandon me. I have nowhere else to go.”
“Okay, stop crying. You’ve got a head injury,” Hannah said gently.
Isabel, feeling awkward, quietly slipped out of the room.
“How’s Mrs. Galvez?” Blake asked.
“My mom’s fine. It’s Amelia who got hurt,” Isabel replied.
Blake didn’t give it much thought. It was just Amelia—she wasn’t important enough to worry about.
Rosy heard about Amelia’s accident and rushed to the hospital to see her. Deep down, Rosy still cared about her daughter. She just hadn’t let Amelia come home because of what happened before.
“Amelia, are you okay? How could this happen? Did someone try to harm you? Was it Isabel? Is she trying to destroy our family?” Rosy was very suspicious.
“What are you talking about! This has nothing to do with Isabel!” Hannah immediately snapped back.
“Humph! What are you doing here? Trying to steal my daughter? Get out of here!” Rosy shouted angrily.
Amelia started to panic. “You crazy woman! What are you talking about! You’re not my mother. You kicked me out. I have nothing to do with the Clyde family anymore. I’m Amelia Galvez now. Leave!”
She pushed Rosy away, furious that Rosy was trying to undermine Hannah. She had worked so hard to win Hannah over, and she wasn’t about to let this ruin it.
“How could you treat your own mother like this?” Rosy was confused and hurt.
Amelia huffed, “It’s all because of you! I was fine with the Galvez family. My adoptive parents were good to me, and so were my siblings. But you had to find me. And when you did, you didn’t treat me well. You kicked me out. You’re not my mother anymore. My mother is right here.” She then hugged Hannah tightly.
Rosy was furious. “You ungrateful brat!” She finally realized what kind of person Amelia was. Amelia clung to Hannah, and Hannah didn’t know what to do.
Rosy pointed at Hannah and said, “Fine! You Galvez family are really something. Now you’ve even stolen my daughter!” She left in disappointment.
Hannah looked at Amelia. “Amelia, I think your mother still cares about you.”
“Mrs. Galvez, that’s just an act. She only cared about money. She even tried to marry me off to some old guy. She never really loved me,” Amelia shared her sad past.
The next day, Amelia was discharged from the hospital and moved to the Golden Villa.
When Jack and Roy found out, they were furious.
“Mom, how could you bring her back here?” Jack asked.
“Yeah, Mom, do you forget how she treated us?” Roy chimed in. She didn’t like Amelia either. Before, they had put up with her because they thought she was their biological sister. But when they found out she wasn’t, and she still acted the same way, they just couldn’t warm up to her. Compared to Isabel, Amelia was way worse.
Hannah said solemnly, “Jack, Roy, she’s hurt. She even saved me. I’ll let her stay here for a few days until she’s better. Then she can leave. Besides, I heard about how tough it was for her at the Clyde residence. We raised her for eighteen years, after all.”
“Mom, you know she’s only here because the Clyde family fell apart. She’s just trying to get something from us now,” Roy said.
Amelia overheard this and immediately knelt down. “Jack, Roy, I know I was wrong. I’m so sorry. I’ve been through a lot, and I’ve realized that money isn’t everything. What matters is family. I was wrong!” She started crying, tears streaming down her face.
Alex, who was always kind-hearted, felt bad for her.
Roy snorted, “If family is so important to you, why didn’t you stay with the Clyde family?”
Amelia wiped away her tears as she said, “Roy, they treated me like trash. They sold me to an old man. I had no choice. You can see the scars on my body.” She lifted her shirt to show the whip marks from the old man. They were healed, but the scars were still there.
Roy was shocked and speechless. The scars showed she’d been through a lot.
Jack didn’t say anything. He looked at Isabel, who was quiet.
“Isabel, why aren’t you saying anything? Is Amelia really sorry, or is she just pretending? If she’s sincere, we could let her stay. We grew up together, after all. But I’m not sure she’s being honest,” Jack said. Ever since Amelia came back to the Clyde family, she had shown her true colors. Jack wouldn’t stand for it. If she were their real sister, he’d forgive anything. But she wasn’t, and he didn’t feel the need to help an outsider.
“Whether she’s sincere or not, her true colors will show eventually. Mom is so kind-hearted. She’s probably been tricked by Amelia’s sweet talk. To avoid making Mom uncomfortable, let’s let her stay for now. Under my watch, she won’t cause any trouble,” Isabel said.
“Also, Jack, look into the car accident Mom had yesterday. We need to know what really happened,” Isabel added.
Jack understood immediately. “You think the accident might have something to do with her?”
“Yeah,” Isabel nodded. She’d been suspicious since yesterday. It seemed too coincidental that Amelia just happened to be there when Hannah had the accident.
And so, Amelia stayed with the Galvez family.
That night, Hannah came in to check on her. “How’s your head? Does it still hurt?”
“Mom, I’m much better now,” Amelia said with a smile.
“Amelia, I’m not your mother. I told you to call me Mrs. Galvez,” Hannah corrected her gently.
