Chapter 120
Isabel quickly spotted the problem. She'd been busy with classes and hadn't had a chance to check. Fortunately, Fritz had diligently pointed out the issues.
“Exactly, there's a problem. I'd appreciate your help sorting it out,” Isabel said.
“No problem at all,” Fritz replied with a smile.
In less than an hour, Isabel had finished the handover. Fritz was responsible, handling everything with great care.
After completing the handover, Isabel went to find Samuel. "Dad," she called.
"Isabel, you're here. Is the handover done?" Samuel asked.
"Yes. Fritz is trustworthy. I'm confident leaving the finances with him," Isabel said.
Samuel chuckled. "Fritz is a good kid. I didn't misjudge him. You can worry less in the future with him around."
As they chatted, Isabel noticed a figure outside. Isn't that Guinevere? she thought. Why is she back at the company?
Isabel didn't dwell on it. Guinevere held no authority; she wouldn't be much use. But as Isabel stepped outside, she saw Guinevere entering Fritz's office.
"Fritz!" Guinevere exclaimed, barging in without knocking.
Fritz, though busy, greeted her with a smile. "Guinevere, why are you here?"
"I'm now an employee in the finance department, so we're colleagues, Fritz. Do you need any help?" Guinevere looked at him with admiration. She hadn't expected Fritz to be so much more handsome than he was as a child.
"No need, I can handle it myself," Fritz replied.
"Fritz, do you remember visiting the Galvez family when we were kids?" Guinevere asked.
"Guinevere, it's work hours. How about we catch up after work?" Fritz said coolly. He was overwhelmed and not in the mood to chat. Guinevere noticed and agreed.
Isabel, seeing Guinevere leave, quickened her pace and left the company. Fritz was a true gentleman and shouldn't be influenced by Guinevere.
As soon as Isabel stepped outside, she noticed that familiar car again. Yolanda was approaching. This time, she came in person.
"Ms. Clyde, Mrs. Yates is waiting for you."
"Okay." Isabel walked toward the car. The door swung open, revealing Yolanda in a tight-fitting dress.
"Hello, Mrs. Yates," Isabel said with a smile.
Yolanda removed her sunglasses and gave Isabel a cold look. "Why haven't you done what I asked?"
"Are you talking about breaking off the engagement, Mrs. Yates?" Isabel asked.
"What? Are you pretending to be clueless? It's been only a few days!" Yolanda snapped.
"No, Mrs. Yates, I didn't forget. Blake spent thirty million dollars to buy back the engagement. I couldn't do anything about it," Isabel replied.
Yolanda was furious. "Bought it back? What do you mean? Taking money from both sides?"
"Mrs. Yates, it's a transaction. I can make a deal with you, and naturally, with others! Besides, Blake offered more—thirty million dollars!" Isabel said.
"You're unreliable! How dare you lie to me!" Yolanda gritted her teeth, but Isabel remained calm.
"Mrs. Yates, I'm not lying. I wanted to return the thirteen million, but Blake insisted, since we're family. If you want that fifteen million, you'll have to ask him," Isabel said.
"How dare you!" Yolanda was shaking with anger. She felt Isabel had tricked her out of fifteen million dollars. She thought Isabel was outrageous.
"Mrs. Yates, please don't be upset. My engagement to Blake was arranged by Mr. Yates, and once we marry, we will surely take good care of you."
"Guards!" Yolanda shouted. Several bodyguards appeared, surrounding her.
"Isabel, you have a lot of nerve! I'm going to teach you a lesson!" Yolanda said.
Isabel's eyes turned cold. She wouldn't endure silently. From the start, when she took the fifteen million, she hadn't intended to keep her word. "Is Mrs. Yates planning to get physical with me?" she asked.
"Exactly! I'll teach you a lesson!" Yolanda commanded. "Hold her and take her away!"
"Mom! What are you doing?" Morris suddenly appeared.
Yolanda was surprised. "What are you doing here?"
Morris didn't answer, only saying, "Mom, just let Isabel go."
"She hasn't joined the family. You're calling her way too warmly," Yolanda said.
"But she's Blake's fiancée. Isn't it just a matter of time? If you bother her, Blake will be angry," Morris replied.
Yolanda scoffed. "Do you think I'm scared of him being angry?"
"Mom, you should… Your relationship with Blake is already tense. If you mess with Isabel, it will only get worse. He's the CEO of Vales Corporation—show him some respect and let Isabel be!" Morris replied.
Morris gently wrapped his arms around Yolanda. Yolanda seemed to calm down considerably. "Mom, let's go home! If Dad finds out, he won't be happy either."
At Morris's urging, Yolanda shot Isabel a cold glance before getting into the car with Morris and leaving. Morris winked at Isabel.
Isabel was speechless. Yolanda listens to her younger son, she thought. The way she looks at Morris is full of warmth. But why is she so distant toward Blake, her son?
After Yolanda left, Isabel decided to buy some flower pastries for Alex, who was down after a breakup.
The pastries were popular and sold out quickly.
"Miss, I'm sorry, please come back tomorrow," the clerk said.
Isabel sighed. "Alright then." She thought Alex wouldn't be getting any.
"Isabel!" Liam suddenly appeared with a bag.
"Liam, again?" Isabel said with an unfriendly look.
Liam waved the bag. "I have some flower pastries here, do you want them?"
Isabel was speechless.
"If you want them, just beg me," Liam grinned.
"You're crazy," Isabel replied.
Liam, unbothered, thought Isabel was charming. Seeing his trick didn't work, he quickly ran after her.
Isabel was getting annoyed. "Liam, stop following me! Aren't you bored?"
"I just want to give you the pastries. It's fine if you don't want to beg, just take them," Liam said, handing them to her.
"I don't need them," Isabel said coldly.
"No, you do. I saw the disappointment on your face. Just take them. It's my treat!" Liam insisted.
Isabel couldn't get rid of him, and she sensed something was off. Someone seemed to be following her. The street was crowded, but that didn't stop them from preparing to make a move.
